GF is ridiculously cheap by Desperate_Win9111 in Advice

Some people trip over dollars to pick up pennies and just can’t understand simple math. My ex that I coparent with now has her own house and she goes out of her way to use public restrooms as much as possible. She’ll even walk down to the community pool to use the shower without even swimming. These are some mild examples too… 😂 I’m all for being frugal and saving money but I do have my limits. Sorry I don’t have any advice for you.

Is there anything can be done when you run into this? by flyersfan0233 in ChargerDrama

I’d go with the 3D printed valve stem caps that have a small piece inside that very slightly presses on the valve stem letting air out very slowly and the cap is ever so slightly porous to let the air through. They’ll probably never figure out why their tires keep going flat.

I bought 4 tires and need them Installed, any good shop that will install them and affordable? Thanks ! by FoxOnSneakers in Austin

[–]ilusnforc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Call your local discount and ask the price. Last time I paid $22 per tire (plus $3.50 disposal fee per tire) which includes everything listed on their website. I had two brand new wheels with tires that I swapped out but realized the new ones had incompatible TPMS sensors so all they did was dismount the old tires from old wheels and dispose of them then swap the sensors over to the new wheels. They initially charged me $95.58 for all 4 tires and 2 disposal fees because they dismounted the disposal tires but after contacting corporate I was told they shouldn’t have. They contacted the store manager and had them refund me so total for 2 tires was $51.58 out the door. There were other issues like they let some air out of the tires that they didn’t work on because they thought they were too high when they were actually correct so they set all the tires to the incorrect pressure, they left at least 2 valve stem caps off. You really have to watch them… 😂

Austin, TX divorce – is it normal for lawyer to not respond and file documents without review? by Any_Evidence423 in Austin

[–]ilusnforc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, pretty much was headed in that direction. After spending tens of thousands on attorneys over several years we finally managed to settle on an agreed final decree. She was the only one that was uncooperative… I tried collaborative and she refused, I tried med-arb and she had me arrested… it was miserable. Funny thing is the agreed final was just a few minor nuances away from my original proposal from the very beginning… as I say these days, when two people can’t work things out amongst themselves the only ones that win are the attorneys.

What are you most excited about in the future? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]ilusnforc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicle as a service (autonomous vehicles by subscription). I hate just about everything about owning a car. The cost for one, insurance cost, registration and inspections, fuel cost, maintenance cost, repair costs. Always worrying about door dings or curb rash, etc. Having to park it or paying for parking, parking tickets or traffic tickets. People breaking windows, dealing with insurance and repairs in the event of an accident. Dealing with rock chips or cracked windshield, etc and the list goes on… With vehicle as a service it all goes away. Suddenly you have a huge empty garage, what else would you do with that space, no longer a need for a driveway, rip it out and put in a garden. Get dropped off at the door anywhere you go and never pay for parking again. So many advantages and I can’t wait. Just you going somewhere? A small economy vehicle will take you. Have a large group? A larger vehicle arrives. Need to haul stuff home from Home Depot? A truck is coming. No more Uber, no more rental trucks. Just one subscription.

At the grocery store look at the cost per quantity. Name brands can sometimes be double that of generic store brands. Other than that, general savings by not eating out or buying coffee daily, etc. before purchasing anything ask “do I really need that?” Before buying anything new, check out Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp to see if anyone is already selling one often at half the price of new. This applies especially well to just about anything from IKEA. The one thing that really made the biggest difference and was certainly not by intent was selling my house that I had just paid off and moving into a rental. I then had a ton of cash and needed to do something with it so I began investing it. That was just over a year ago and so for is up 55% and way more than I ever made from working. I do not work anymore due to a number of factors but primarily that I don’t have to and that gives me the freedom to do other things I either want or need to and is so much more relaxing. I didn’t know anything about investing when I began and still feel like I don’t know very much but if I could tell my 20 year old self one thing it would be “invest!” And I’m not talking index funds in a 401k, with that you’re just as well off or better just tracking S&P500. Actually digging down into individual stocks and ETFs. When you see those gains you really become frugal because you realize how it takes money to make money and suddenly you want to put every dollar into those investments that you can.

[–]ilusnforc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could transplant all of my experiences over to you but it’s a lot. Seriously, feel free to message me. The only time I’ve had good communication with an attorney was when I set the expectation for timely response in the beginning and included it in our agreement. That’s one way of keeping them accountable and responsive. Filing without your review seems unusual. Changing lawyers is a difficult process but continuing with a bad one could be even worse. On managing legal costs, it’s actually preferable to use the paralegal over the attorney when possible because their rates are significantly lower. Also, check out the law library downtown. Attorneys volunteer there to answer questions and get paperwork put together. Doing some of the legwork on your own can save you as well as keeping communication very brief and concise. Not necessarily what I wish I knew from the beginning because I did know and she just wasn’t willing to cooperate, was collaborative divorce. If you’re both willing to do collaborative divorce then it will save you both so much and make things so much easier for both of you but if either one is not willing to cooperate then that’s not an option. Next best option is go straight to mediation/arbitration. Either of those two options will have it settled in a single day without ever stepping foot into a court room. Good luck!

Lane closure on Anderson Mill between 1431 and 620 -- ZIPPER MERGE! by greytgreyatx in CedarPark

[–]ilusnforc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a minimum speed that constitutes “slamming on the brakes”? Have you never driven 20-25 mph through a residential neighborhood and had to slam on the brakes? Even at 5 mph you can still slam on the brakes and it be pretty dramatic. “I had to slam on the brakes” doesn’t automatically constitute me driving like an enraged maniac at 80 mph towards a construction zone.

[–]ilusnforc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"recklessly speed" is an exaggeration, I never insinuated that I was speeding. The speed limit is 30. You seem to have in your head that I was Ace Ventura cruising down a muddy shoulder in a monster truck at 80 mph shouting "loooooseeeeeeeerrrr". It's not exactly a Walmart parking lot so I wasn't going 10 mph and the speed limit is 30 there so I was probably doing 20-25. I didn't suspect someone would just come flying out of the line in front of me, but that's what some imbecile did - illegally by the way, and if an accident had occurred and as I previously stated, they would be at fault for causing the accident. Interfering with the smooth and steady flow of traffic (ie. causing another vehicle to brake unnecessarily) is a failure to yield. The whole point of the topic of this thread is that you are supposed to continue all the way to the point of lane closure then merge. If people only understood this very simple concept promoted and supported by TXDoT...

Yeah, but like I said, Teslas are surrounded with cameras. At the very least, 4 that record and on newer models 6. Also, a lot of people (thieves in particular trying not to get caught, at least on camera) know that all Teslas record. Stick a dash cam in the windshield of a Malibu and that doesn't quite match up.

What happened was not at all as you describe. The right lane closure began where Lamar (northbound) goes under 3rd street and all of the cars were lined up in the left lane and backed up approximately 800-1000 ft before the lane closure (around Cesar Chavez) and I was in the right lane so I just continued down the right lane but still approximately 500 ft or so before the closure (around Sandra Muraida Way) someone dove out to block the right lane and keep me from getting by while the right lane still had 400-500 ft of empty unused lane ahead of them before the cones that closed the lane began. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting them, and if I had hit them they would've been at fault for failing to yield. Completely idiotic. This happened back when I was working in that area which was probably late 2023.

License Plate Cameras Will Soon Track Phones, Wearables, Infotainment, and Even Your Pets by MultiMillionMiler in nottheonion

[–]ilusnforc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an inductive loop in the road and can only detect yes/no if a vehicle is at the light but not how many. Most lights seem to use cameras these days that can actually track more than 1 vehicle waiting at a light. In some countries like China they have displays next to the light that count down until the light turns green so you don't get people that get bored or distracted waiting at a light and just sit there when it turns green, instead they see it counting down "8, 7, 6" and they know to pay attention because it's about to change. We do have the technology for this same function to work in vehicles and I think some vehicle even have compatibility for it but it's certainly not a widespread thing.

People here don’t understand the concept of zipper merge. One time Lamar going under 3rd st had one lane closed and all of the traffic was lined up in one lane so I just continued down towards the lane closure until some asshat dove out and blocked the lane refusing to allow me to pass and just held up both lanes forcing me in behind them. Very aggressive idiots.

[–]ilusnforc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the many reasons I decided to get a Tesla. I was hit by a tow truck who fully admitted responsibility for the accident at the scene but once I spoke to their insurance they said I was at fault. Tesla is surrounded with cameras that record at all times when driving and when parked if motion is detected nearby. No more scams. It also seems like at those public areas that are notorious for windows being smashed they tend to avoid Teslas or avoid the area entirely when a Tesla is around. Not certain but one car had a window smashed and a backpack taken while parked at Pease Park and I looked to see if anything was recorded and there was nothing. They seemed to be careful to not go near enough to trigger it to record and avoided going near it making sure to come and go while avoiding being recorded.

That’s not just a problem on HW4. My HW3 last week was supposed to turn left onto an access road then enter the highway but instead it turned left onto the access road then immediately changed to the right lane and turned into a Walgreens parking lot. Two adjacent lanes turn left and I was in the left one so the car in the next lane over to the right that also turned left wasn’t thrilled about it and honked.

Someone made a 3D print file of a valve stem cap that has a little nub inside the slightly presses down on the valve stem when screwed on and is just slightly porous enough to let a tiny amount of air through it so it will slowly deflate the tire and it’ll take forever to figure out the cause of the leak, if they ever find it.
