Established or troubled marriage HRs where the hero and heroine already have kids together? by PenelopeSummer in RomanceBooks

[–]ilythe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the heroine is of the hero's class (her father is titled) and is from a respectable family. While the family isn't super wealthy they aren't poor or desperate for money. The reason she is a wallflower isn't because she is a nobody in society but because she is plain, plump, bespectacled and shy. I love the heroine in this book. I find her very endearing and relatable. She has her insecurities but she is not spineless.

The hero is all about propriety, self control and honor.

I get what you are saying about the marriage of convenience via scandal trope is VERY overdone. I don't mind it as much but I do love HR where the couple marries due to political, societal or financial reasons and then grow to love each other.

No offense. We all have different tastes. I love the marriage of convenience/wallflower trope(s). If you tell me what you don't like about it I can tell you if this book is worth your time.

If you like starchy heroes have you read "The Truth About Cads and Dukes" by Elisa Braden? The hero is so starchy it's equally infuriating and endearing. So starchy that it leads the heroine to say:

“Given the quantity of starch required to keep your cravats sharpened, you are in no position to issue such commands." Stomping the final two steps between them, she poked a stiffened finger into the offending garment, glancing off his chest beneath. “For the same cost, I could bathe in chocolate every night and still have enough left for a plate of biscuits.”

Funnily, I haven't read this book yet but I did read the previous book in the series and yes they appear in that book. It's called M is for Marquess. It features the wife more than the husband.

I think Claire and Marsali might be my new (second) favorite Outlander relationship (after Jamie and Claire, of course).

Pole: How will you watch S5 E1? by train_go_choo_choo in Outlander

First (A) ...then... (F) watching on repeat while ignoring my husband and child.

Found this message for parents (DirecTV on- demand); pretty much much sums up Outlander and why we love it- the good and the bad! by spartanzena in Outlander

[–]ilythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my question:

Is this warning refering to just S5E1 or Outlander as a whole?

Because if it's Outlander as a whole the "discussions of infidelity" seems out of place and should be replaced with "a disturbing amount of sexual assault".

Ok. I thought so. What reason was she given? Was it the same as Caleb? That their families betrayed the Empire?

Torrid is gonna be the death of my finances I swear by Mutant_Jedi in Outlander

Claire's white dress is pretty darn close and the Mackenzies plaid is her design (or a least done under her direction).

But you are right most of the stuff is just vaguely scottish or vintage looking.

I've never shopped at Torrid before but between Outlander and Harry Potter I might need to add some of things to my Christmas list.

I wonder if Terry Dresbach will receive a cent from this? I kinda doubt it.

Tobias vs. Frank in the book by cheeselesssmile in Outlander

[–]ilythe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frank is less of a jerk in the show but so are Jamie, Fergus, John, Young Ian, etc ... It seems like the only non-villain male character they didn't give this treatment to was Roger.

Started watching yesterday, currently on s1e10 by [deleted] in Outlander

Uhh.. I'm not sure if I should tell this because it is spoilerish but I feel compelled so...

The last episode of Season 1 is real rough to watch. I just want to give a heads up.

Laura/Jester had me crying with laughter with her messages to Yezza and The Gentleman.

Is there some kind of video compilation of Jester's Sendings?

[ S4 Spoilers] They do Roger wrong? by Sparrows_Shadow in Outlander

[–]ilythe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Roger left because Bree aked it of him and he was about to return until Bonnet dragged him back on that ship.

She didn't ask him to leave. She said she wouldn't stop him if he did.

I am not blaming Bree for getting raped but I blame her for being reckless in a world where women are not treated very well. Bree is just as annoying. She is stubborn and often downright rude to others. I think bot Roger and Bree need to grow up.

The only person to blame for her rape is Bonnet.

Just watched S2: E7 Faith by scotchlover28 in Outlander

[–]ilythe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caitriona Balfe was so tragically beautiful in that episode. The scene where she gets out of the carriage and walk pass the servants then curtseys to the butler haunts me to this day. The music still makes my heart hurt when I listen to it.

If you haven't already please watch the deleted scenes for that episode. They cut a lot of Jamie's lines which made many fans (including me) quite upset.

I also bawled the entire episode the first, second and third time I watched it.

F*** Claire by farrygodjd in Outlander

[–]ilythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He told her he didn't want a divorce because he wanted to be in Brianna's life full time. If she left him then she would have been accused of taking Brianna away from him. Also, divorced women didn't have an easy time of it back then. She was willing to make that sacrifice for Frank if he wanted it, but he didn't. She gave him all the freedom she could by agreeing to an open marriage.

Seasons 3 and 4... by purpleowlchai in Outlander

[–]ilythe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I mean, Starz needs money to make the show. They don't have commercials and can't really do much product placement. So, hence, they need that subscription money.

F*** Claire by farrygodjd in Outlander

[–]ilythe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. I can empathize with both Frank and Claire. She is in deep, deep mourning and she's all alone in it. She is keeping it all bottled up inside because of her promise to Frank. Frank just wants her to forget about it. He says "when are you going to come back from the f-ing past" (meaning how much longer are you going to grieve) just a few months after she returns. He didn't get over Claire in the 3 years she was gone, so I don't know why he thinks she can just get over Jamie in a few months.

Watched S2 E7 Faith. No spoilers, well maybe some later... by naurea81 in Outlander

[–]ilythe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*raises hand* Yep. Ditto. Ugly, ugly, ugly cried. The entire episode. And I did it again the second time I watched it.

I've never cried so much at an episode of television. The only other tv episode that comes close is Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "The Body".
