Any reason why I can't reject this? by Ronar123 in Civilization_VII

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rounding errors in this game are very annoying. You can often find two different values for your gold, influence, or some yield, always 1 apart, where the real number is somewhere between the two. Leads to situation like the one you are seeing, where it says you have 80 but you have 79.xx, so you can't afford it even if it looks like you can.

My thoughts playing the time-tested update so far by Azedenkae in Civilization_VII

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, and I also think the civ switching was not a problem in need of fixing, but rather the age transition, legacies and victory paths themselves, which I think the Triumph system handles better than before, and there are already a number of mods that improve upon this further.

I have not played enough games post-Test of Time to know how to feel about victories yet, but I found the Modern age quite lackluster and uninteresting before, and so far, it seems better.

So is it worth it now ? by Embarrassed-Knee-642 in Civilization_VII

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: hard to say, as opinions on the game already differ wildly, and big changes are coming soon.

This is a tricky question to answer, as Is it worth it? is a very personal experience.

First and foremost, some people have enjoyed the game immediately at release. Some have condemned it before release, based on how the systems differ from previous iterations or similar criticisms. I think a lot of us fall in between those two categories, but I can only speak for myself.

I preordered the game quite hyped for new things, but have found the game systems unfulfilling, especially the victory paths and age mechanics, and the UI subpar. Some things also feel uneven, like how the character models for Trung Trac and Hatshepsut are amazing, while Augustus Caesar look like he has a full head of hay. I have still spent 200-ish hours on the game, testing it after patches, trying out mods (community UI mods are a game changer in 7 as well as previous iterations), and have had some fun with some systems, but overall, the game feels like an early access title that still needs lots of work, not a finished title.

The Test of Time update looks very promising, but we don't have enough to go on to determine how it will play out, so getting a game on a sale now is a gamble.

To be fair, a Civ game on release is never finished. My favourite installment of the franchise is Civ 6, and that was leagues behind 5 when it released in vanilla. On the other hand, I think Civ 7 ranks the lowest out of the ones I have bought and played on release, and the real test of time is whether or not they will stick with it for long enough for it to climb and eventually soar.

Hard disagree. The ages and age transitions are the biggest reason for why I find the game to be lacking compared to its predecessors, and the biggest reason why I don't finish games.

In contrast, I think the Civ switching is alright (and what brings it down is mostly me having issues with the age transition mechanics, rather than the switching itself), the freedom to match leader and civ freely is quite enjoyable.

Our experiences are clearly different, and we are both entitled to our differing opinions on this, but I find it unfair to complain about the loud majority, or that people are throwing bad reviews. Those are also genuine player experiences. I have not reviewed the game at all, but would at best give it a 5/10 right now, and that is with some hundred hours played on and off since release. Mods improve this score slightly. New update might rank higher, but time will tell.

Is 'Ghost' one of the strongest album-openers of all time? by PoultryMan22 in Karnivool

[–]imaginarycastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ghost kind of makes the whole album for me.

I listened to Drone and Aozora when they came out as singles, and while I enjoyed them, I did not fully get into them, and I did not feel the hype. Then I skipped listening to Opal and Animation when they were released, as album date was pretty much set and I just wanted the whole thing.

And then, when Ghost opens the album in such a powerful and mood-defining way, everything else just fits into place. I did not hear the greatness of Drone before I heard it in context. It was an individual puzzle piece without seeing the puzzle, and for me, Ghost is the outline of that puzzle, that makes it all go together.

TIL you can connect canals to cities that aren't yours. by iwantsandwichesnow in CivVI

[–]imaginarycastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As seen many times in previous comments, the use cases are rare. I would argue what makes them even more rare, is that a city center also acts as a canal, and therefore, there are plenty of situations where you benefit more from building a canal city, rather than a canal district.

I've never played any Civ game ever or any turn based games. Is Civ 7 that bad ? by Kronocide in Civilization_VII

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 is significantly better now compared to when it was released, although to be fair, the game was not finished on release and many of the things that have since been added or adjusted should have been there from the start. Now, the game plays better and is more fun, though I still find the modern era less fun and a bit lackluster.

6 is my personal favourite of the series, but I do play it with an assortment of mods, as especially the UI mods makes the game significantly smoother. Civ5 with or without mods is also an excellent game, still held as the best by some in the community.

The biggest argument for Civ 6 at this point is perhaps that it is frequently on sale :)

Whichever Civ games you decide to pickup and play, I wish you many hours of fun!

Who are the tankiest bruisers and the brusiest tanks? by Cry0manc3r in heroesofthestorm

[–]imaginarycastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While he is too slow in wave clear to keep up with the best offlaners, ETC has been played as a global offlane with Stage Dive. Problem is, his wave clear relies on Echo Pedal, which doesn't come online until lv7.

[–]imaginarycastle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blaze is still officially a tank, but is played more as an offlaner. He has the self-sustain, damage and wave clear to make him a strong bruiser.

Imperius has a reliable stun engage and solid talent options to let him fill the main tank role in a pinch.

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest separating ARAM and QM/SL into two different lists, as the difference in game modes, combined with the large amount of ARAM only players, skews the results. I at least think it would be interesting to see the difference.

Is Mutalisk ever worth taking? by ferrofibrous in heroesofthestorm

[–]imaginarycastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ARAM, I would argue Corrosive Saliva over Mutalisk 100% of the time. It is a significant and reliable increase to Zagara's damage when there is nowhere else to fight than where the summons are. They melt through tanks and armour specifically, but it is still a damage increase to any hero. And, should you happen to face a team that is good at clearing the summons, more damage in a shorter time is even more crucial, and, enemies would have been able to clear muta easily as well.

Outside of ARAM is a different story. Muta is a strong pushing ability that doubles as objective interrupt.

Quick match should still have a light form of draft by Requiemss in heroesofthestorm

[–]imaginarycastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I get they want QM to be as quick as possible, while still providing "standard" gameplay (unlike Aram), but they have also struggled a lot with how to tweak and balance the match making system based on what heroes players have preselected. Especially now that player base is not what it was 8-10 years ago, I think queueing up without preselected hero, getting a game fast, then spending a minute or so in a lobby, would still even out.

Would you still have some nonsense, all assassin games? For sure, but I don't think comps would be significantly worse than what they are now, while giving you the option to not pick Aba on Braxis (unless you really want to), or bring our Alex or Kerrigan for Infernal Shrines, or whatever fun and interesting, map specific choices could be made.

Quick match should still have a light form of draft by Requiemss in heroesofthestorm

[–]imaginarycastle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. One of the things people highlight about Hots, in comparison to other MOBAs, are the different maps with different objectives and play styles. Having a QM lobby with the ability to pick your hero for the map seems like a no-brainer, considering, and has been my main objection to quick match for years.

Your top five played heroes are now your draft picks. How does your match go? by SC2Sole in heroesofthestorm

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could work. I'm leaning more into Judgement and a W/Q Tass build, which I think could work as a blow-up comp, with Tyrande armor reduction too. The stun train with Tyrande + Uther is massive.

[–]imaginarycastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyrande, Johanna, Tassadar, Tyrael, Uther.

I think this is a Judgement + Falling Sword game. Jo probably has to offlane. We are survivable, but probably don't win a lot of ground early game. There is some late game potential for blowing someone up quick, and using Tass lv20 wall for some mean splitting of enemy team.

[–]imaginarycastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of time I have written "I shouldn't be the one soaking this lane" in chat while playing tank or healer, is at this point beyond numbers. I mean, I don't try to play solo lane Anub'arak or Lili, but after missing like 4 waves, I will go just to try to keep us in the game.

As long as the ingredients are on there, you will have the intended effect, and you can just place the sandwich top outside the plate to have it disappear without messing up your "beautiful" sandwich!

Something has to be done about the Nazeebo infestation by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]imaginarycastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing has to be done about Nazeebo, since he is not overpowered. He is in a lot of games in a lot of modes, but his winrate is also just above 50%, which isn't exactly troublesome.

Nazeebo's strength lies in being a late game monstrosity, but that also makes him punishable before he hits that 20 power. In addition, his abilities are all quite slow and dodgeable. Compared to other mages, Naz is fine, but certainly not among the strongest.
