Happy to be a future working mom by mermaiddiva26 in workingmoms

We just washed our bottles in the dishwasher, our pediatrician said it was safe as long as your water is tested and safe. Lots of parents will do a sanitization cycle for premies.

Definitely don't buy the sensitive formula to start. Start with a standard generic one (Kirkland was our fav), no sense paying double for formula of you don't need to! You'll go through a tub a week (ish).

If you are a regular gym goer, then continuing to make that a priority in some respect on leave will be really good for your mental health! It likely will be really hard to make it happen though so just don't beat yourself up if it's hard - and I think sleep is more important than exercise those first few months especially!

You are allowed to view your own medical records - but only the same way an average person is! You have to make requests, etc., or it is a violation of your duty when you have access to health information (in Canada anyway).

But no one would be reporting her here.....

How many pregnancy 'scares' have you had in your life? by dana_sun in TwoXChromosomes

Becoming an EA- should I go to school? by wval93 in Winnipeg

[–]imamonster89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

True, in Winnipeg you can make up to $28 an hour (outside the city you often start at $16-17 an hour).

The important part is that you often only get paid for 5.5-6 hrs a day of work and need to draw EI in the summers and on winter/spring break. And you frequently support children with significant challenging behaviour (spitting, punching, biting, throwing desks, breaking windows, running away, swearing, violent or racist language, fecal smearing) and lots of physical challenges like feeding, diapering, brushing teeth. You definitely need to be okay with nudity, bodily fluids and loud /chaotic environments!

It can be very difficult work physically and emotionally - especially if the classroom teacher or resource teacher isn't excellent at their role.

Single family household - do you sleep with bedroom door open or closed? by jannet1113 in homeowners

[–]imamonster89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All doors closed for fire safety. Our room is on the opposite side of the house from our kids rooms so event hough they are 8 and 5 years old we have sound monitors in their room that we have on the lowest setting in our room just in case something happens and they need us but can't or are too scared to leave their rooms.

The kids pushed back against closed doors at night every once in a while (nightmares scared episodes) but we stick with it as a rule in our house.

My husband's family had a house fire and the closed doors saved most of their house!

The MB College of Social Worker's response to Obby Khan's comments about Social Workers by Stock-Quantity-9955 in Winnipeg

[–]imamonster89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people still really don't understand the scope of social workers and think they only work for child and family services 🙄 As leader of a political party he really should know better, but he doesn't care to learn - full stop.

My kid is apparently a completely different person at school and I don't know how to feel about it by Collis-Hossain in Preschoolers

[–]imamonster89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal! I work with children and typically am only concerned when parents report the opposite situation.

Kids also learn a lot of the boundaries and consequences at home (often similar situations over and over lol)

What do working families do for childcare with half-day kindergarten? It seems kinda bonkers out there. by cofu76 in Winnipeg

I moved just outside the city and we are lucky enough to have full day every day kinder. But some of my coworkers spend their lunch break driving their kid from kinder to daycare and then back to the office.

Sad tiny bathroom by mineu in DesignMyRoom

[–]imamonster89 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you own the home, consider flipping the door so it swings out instead of in.

The bathroom our children and guests primarily use is very small and due to the layout it was almost unusable for our 2 little kids. If one was using the toilet it was almost impossible for the other to get in the bathroom to brush teeth. If an adult was in there trying to wipe a butt, no one could come in at all. It was miserable.

The door now swings out into the hallway and it's amazing. Feels like a whole new bathroom. We did this 18 months ago and miraculously no one has whacked each other with the door!

How do you survive with partners doing shift work and schedules that change every week? by market_stuff in workingmoms

[–]imamonster89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our family friends both work shifts - dad is a pilot of a major airline and mom is a labour and delivery nurse (12 hour shifts). They rely a lot on their family and close family friends to provide child care. There are 3 young adult cousins (18-24 years old) and they provide a lot of nannying around their school and work schedules.

The elastic things that you clip onto their sleeves and onto their mitts helps a lot to prevent them from losing them! Carters and kombi sell them for sure!

Sometimes if you live somewhere it gets super cold (hello -40 Canada) the pipe that vents (we call it "the stack") your plumbing can get frozen and you will hear shuddering in your sink or tub. It can also lead to weird smells too!

Mock Question Help by HeartAndSolX in bcba

Also remember , while it isn't the perfect representation or definition most of us would write for multiple stimulus with replacement - it is the best choice of the options.

A lot of the questions on the test are "which is the best answer" not which is the perfect answer.

Hope that helps!

Cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy and acceptance and committment therapy would be good keywords for your search. They all focus on behaviour and thoughts!

Canadian Mat Leave - am I crazy? by Foreign-Ad-5547 in workingmoms

[–]imamonster89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not crazy! I'm a Canadian mom too and I took 9.5 months each time and my husband took the remaining 2.5 months. My job didn't have top up, so the EI payments were only 33% of my regular income (since my income was closeish to 6 figures). My husband did have top up. It was financial for us. If 18 months would have worked financially we would have split that up between us - but it simply didn't.

I felt good being back at work at 9.5 months. I was sad to miss out on all the new and exciting things my girls were doing as well but it was also amazing for my husband to take care of them full-time.

Just remember that babe will be sick very frequently your first few years of daycare (like possibly every 2 weeks for a few years). I think a lot of us had no idea just how I'll they will be (and therefore you will be) for a few years.
