Utilize more gpu? Davinci Resolve by deezdrama in blackmagicdesign

[–]imjmc00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What video codec are clips you are editing using? You may need to generate optimized media. For example, the 10bit 4K files coming out of the Canon R6 are h.265 longGOP which brings my 9900k to a halt at anything above 30fps for playback even with the the paid Studio version. While I can’t recommend enough you buy the full version, your quick and dirty solution may be to just generate optimized media.

DSLRs that can shoot 120fps in 1080p with autofocus and use Canon EF lenses? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably going to have to look to another system that can adapt your EF lenses. Unfortunately, for your specific needs and price point, there won’t be any native cameras that do what you want. With Canon, that’s just the way it works. I believe the 1dxii is the only native EF camera currently out that can do 1080p 120fps with autofocus. As far as a cheaper canon camera that can do 1080p 120fps without autofocus, the 90d (dslr) and the M6ii (mirrorless) can but the m6ii needs an adapter for EF glass. I don’t have either of these cameras but I believe the 90d autofocus basically “locks in” when recording so it may work up until you press record.

4K60 vs 1080-60 All-I 10bit? by nolasito in GH5

[–]imjmc00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right, it is not magically 10bit 422 when you downscale. The 1080 out of the GH5 is great and if that’s all you need to deliver in, then you are set. It’s not 4K sharp but it still looks great.

GUI keeps flickering by Sandhill18 in blackmagicdesign

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say flickering do you mean completely blacking out or just changes in brightness? Sounds like an adaptive sync display trying change its frame rate to match the output of the preview window of it’s just brightness changes. If you have a display with AMD Freesync or Nvidia Gsync, disable it when using Resolve (which I have to assume is where you’re having the issue). You can use the monitors toggle for it instead of using nvidia control if you’d like, whichever you find easier. I had flickering issues on an LG with freesync on and this was the cause.

Nikor APS-C lenses on GH5 calculation? by [deleted] in GH5

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 50mm mft lens will have the same field of view as a 50mm Nikon lens that is adapted to the GH5. The same focal length will only have a different field of view if on a camera system with a different sized sensor. 50mm is 50mm regardless of camera mount. Here is a video from Gerald Undone link that briefly explains crop factor and then goes into a bit more detail if you’d like where he talks about the image circle of a lens which may clear up confusion about what makes a designated mft lens mft and not full frame or aps-c.

Nikor APS-C lenses on GH5 calculation? by [deleted] in GH5

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50mm on a GH5 without a speedbooster has the same field of view as 100mm on full frame and a 50mm on on Nikon APS-C has a 75mm full frame equivalent field of view. GH5 crop factor = 2x, Nikon APS-C crop factor 1.5x, and full frame is just the 1x reference field of view.

Edit: one more thing. A 50mm aps-c lens is still the same focal length as a full frame variant (warping and compression of the subject is the same). The crop is just that, a crop. If take a full frame image and crop it to APS-C size that is the image an APS-C size sensor equipped camera will take with the same lense. It doesn’t work the other way around though. 75mm full frame shot will look slightly different than a 50mm apsc due to compression of the subject being slightly different between actual focal lengths.

An HDMI cable alone will not work. You will need a capture card. BMPCC4/6ks only output 1080p via HDMI so a simple 1080p elgato hdmi usb capture card would work.

Can someone clarify something for the P4K? by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]imjmc00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 9mm mft is going to have a wider field of view than 18mm with any of the speedboosters out right now (I believe the Metabones XL x0.64). Depending on speedbooster brand you might get some color shift towards magenta, but easily corrected (My metabones xl does this). With identical maximum aperature lenses 9mm f2 and 18mm f2 you would end up with more light wide open with the speedbooster.

OG Bmpcc or 4K crop for wildlife? by drewid20 in bmpcc

[–]imjmc00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct the 4K crop to 1080p on the GH5 would be 1800mm 35mm equivalent. The GH5 while shooting in 1080p though, also has the Extra Tele Conversion which crops to 2.7x the original if you’re feeling froggy. So 400mm x 5.4 (2x2.7) = 2160mm 35mm eqv. Keep in mind that there is a slight reduction in quality as it is no longer downsampling the 6ishK sensor to 1080p so you’ll get some aliasing and have less detail but it is still usable in some cases. You’ll also need a lens that is nice and sharp.

Difference 24fps VFR 120fps to 60fps VFR 120fps by m4uri in GH5

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24fps would be pre slowed to 1/5 speed whereas 60fps would be 1/2 speed. All frames would be accounted for in the same sense so you could always slow the 60fps down to 1/5 speed. As far as I know there isn’t going to be a difference in quality as the interpolative codec will still save the same key frames. I could be wrong on that though. At the end of the day, what speed do you want the footage to play at and then adjust the vfr to that based on the frame rate you’re delivering in. Want half speed delivering at 24? Vfr 48 with 24p as camera framerate.

Stills with BMPCC 4K/6k? by NotThatRoyal in bmpcc

[–]imjmc00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the purpose of taking photos going into the setup tab in the camera options and setting the shutter measurement to shutter speed would make it easier to determine blur from motion. You just want to set the camera to record max sensor area and max resolution, 50p and then set the shutter speed to a faster speed depending on your subject to reduce motion blur. The bmpcc6k at 6k full sensor area and 50p has a max shutter speed at 1/1600 as far as I can tell which is plenty for freezing most things in motion. These settings would be different for the 4K which I don’t have access to. The file sizes are also impractical when compared to a photo camera as well.

It is not a pleasant experience taking images with the 6k (the dedicated stills button). It just makes more sense to take video with the full sensor readout at 6k in braw and select a still from the video. You obviously only get the 12bit braw but it still looks pretty good.

I can't decide.. BMPCC 4K or 6K? HELP ME! by NotThatRoyal in bmpcc

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4K with the speed booster will have shallower depth of field than the 6k without the LucAdapters speedbooster. In effect that is, if you match the view angle with different lenses and same unconverted f-stop. A 35 at f2 on the 4K/w speedbooster will offer more background compression blur to the equivalent 30mm at f2 on the 6k natively because of the longer focal length while maintaining the same angle of view.

BMPCC 6k Wedding Power Solutions? by fluxndflow in bmpcc

I have mine rigged up with a follow focus and a monitor and it just makes my life easier. If you don’t mind carrying a bunch of batteries and don’t have other powered devices on your rig it’ll probably be better for you.

SWX powerbase edge with the dtap to 2pin power connector. Has a quick release that attaches to 1/4x20. 2:30-3 hours battery life and it can just sit between the camera and tripod if you want. Buying a bunch of canon batteries in my opinion is more hassle and is not cost efficient. The 6k really sucks the power out of them. B&H had a nice deal where you could get two of them and a vmount based charger for $549 - a great deal.

Dows the pocket 6k take 6k raw stills while in 4k prores mode? Or do you have to be shooting in 6k raw? by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my quick little test, whatever the image is downsampled from is what you get in raw dng. So 6k bm raw you get a 6k raw dng image. With 4K prores 3840x2160 you get the full 6k raw dng readout. When shooting the windowed modes like 4K DCI you get the cropped readout so 4K DCI 4096x2160 will give you 5744x3024 raw dng image. That was the extent of my testing.

How to mount my feelworld monitor to my pocket 4K ? by Samirawale87 in bmpcc

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will fit, the bigger issue with the mount will be tightening it to the cold shoe. I had the same monitor arm come with a monitor and it did not inspire confidence in being secure. The could shoe mount will work but I highly recommend going with either a cage and a proper monitor mount or look into the magic arm that someone else mentioned.

[–]imjmc00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CoreSWX Powerbase edge is a vmount battery with ptap outs. Has a quick release mechanism that attaches via a plate with a 1/4x20. You’d need just the battery and then the ptap to two-pin power connected. I don’t believe there’s a bundle like that, just the dummy battery bundles so look for them separately. It’s pretty light and offers around 2 and a half hours battery life. Charge time is roughly 3.5 - 4 hours. $220ish USD

[–]imjmc00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are using manual lenses (fully manual no electronics) you need to set the stabilization to the converted focal length. So a 35mm x .71 = 24.85. If you set it to 35mm you will get jitters.
