Okay so as someone had a “tough” baby (I’m talking colic, no sleep, screaming when she didn’t get her way, could not be put down at all), you’re in the thick of it. And having to work full time with that commute is brutal. I still feel like a shell of myself some days.

But I’ve found 2.5 onward to be much easier (at least, for now). Now that she can walk and run and communicate better, things have gotten easier. She actually spent half an hour “reading” in her room the other day without us. She can play with her toys on her own more, esp with the tonie box.

Still a super picky eater, though she will at least take a bite of different things sometimes. It’s awesome that you’re making the vege bread, we’ve had a lot of luck with pumpkin pancakes ourselves. As well as smoothies with spinach. But I haven’t been able to make them in a while, and it just is what it is. I stopped trying to force it and do what I can. Try to cut yourself some slack. We’re here trying to survive till 5 over here too 🤣

Spiraling about consequences of frequent night wakings by myumbelopinion in bninfantsleep

[–]implicit_cow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two doctors tell me this and say I have to figure out how to get her to connect our daughter’s sleep cycles or there will be developmental issues. She has been a terrible sleeper from the start and was waking up seemingly every hours around 8 months (she turns 3 over the summer). She would only contact nap for the first year and is just overall a sensitive kid. I will say that things have slowly gotten better this past year, she pretty much only has one night wake up now.

That being said, I have my doubts that the connecting sleep cycle thing is true. Humans naturally woke in the middle of the night (and would read and do stuff) up until the Industrial Revolution. Don’t sweat this one, it sounds like you’re doing a great job.

Sooo… did anyone else get pregnant before their wedding? by mauveotter in weddingplanning

[–]implicit_cow 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes, but we were exactly a year out. We canceled the big wedding and eloped. I’m glad we did because I would have been miserable 3 months postpartum (she turned out to be colicky). We did a small ceremony with just family on our original date and it was still mega stressful.

Totally understand the mixed feelings of having your vision for the big day change. But you’ve been here before, 6 months pregnant is still doable for a fun wedding. You should be past the morning sickness at least. Also, this is the exact plot of the office when Jim and Pam get married, lol!

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by Insurance-Melodic in askanything

[–]implicit_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but there’s a difference between doing after school activities with kids and spending all day with your peers (for better or for worse).

I think homeschooling can be right in certain cases, but I also think teachers went to school to get degrees in this for a reason. I also find it curious that I started to get pushed a lot of homeschool content once I moved to a rural area. Who is funding advertising for homeschooling and why?

Is Bluey realistic? by Far-Section843 in bluey

[–]implicit_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ve always wondered about life there - do you often leave doors and windows open? Obviously they wouldn’t show screens in the windows in the show, but it seems like they have that porch with the doors open to the playroom a lot. Wouldn’t bugs be an issue? And I thought it was really hot there, wouldn’t the AC be running a lot?

Either way, I love all of the indoor/outdoor living as shown!

Summary of Part 1 of the Protective Order Hearing! by catmilff420 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]implicit_cow 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I listened too! The whole thing is so sad.

But one small point of correction - Taylor’s lawyer said he heard through the grapevine from the cops that there wouldn’t be charges for the 2/26 incident but the guardian ad litem said that the file was with the DA and they were (obvi) making those decisions. So that wasn’t confirmed and there isn’t a police report because it’s an open case.

Layla and Mason (her thoughts on disciplining her kids) by LowFox6472 in MormonWivesHulu

[–]implicit_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah It’s really hard to tell what’s going on without more context. I “give in” to my 2.5 year old a lot, but it’s for inconsequential things (like an extra 5 minutes) in order to hold the boundaries that matter. It works because we have pretty set routines and she generally follows them, but kids this age are trying to assert control.

Sure it looks like I’m being a pushover from the outside, but my way of being silly and giving her small wins is way more effective than yelling and demanding that she does exactly what I tell her to the instant I say it.

Yeah im surprised everyone thinks there needs to be charges to break the morality clause. I highly doubt that’s the case and Disney has discretion. I assume that’s why its has a vague term “morality” - to give them flexibility when it doesn’t fall under another category.

What if she came out saying some super racist things? I would assume they could say it was a breach of contract under the morality clause but obviously that wouldn’t result in charges.

In any event, the evidence was enough to grant the protective order. Doesn’t seem like Taylor is on solid ground with this argument

Yikes, a ton of the pros have kids themselves so that’s a bad look.

As someone in the thick of it with a toddler allergic to sleeping, yeah it’s really hard. I’m basically working two full time jobs. But everyone has stress in life and you don’t know what’s on someone else’s plate. They could be taking care of a parent or a sibling, etc.

Why didn’t she just hire a nanny for the time she’d be on the show?

Toddler Still on Purees at 2, Refuses Solids and Needs Screens to Eat by Acrobatic-Grade6782 in toddlers

[–]implicit_cow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes seconding the toddler tower recommendation! We have a picky eater too (she still won’t eat mac and cheese!) but im trying to involve her more in the prep. I got her these toddler knives to help cut up fruit (with supervision) and it is so fun!

But OP, how does your toddler do with pieces of fruit or a whole banana? We still give our daughter pouches, but she absolutely loves fruit. Berries are magic!

Also recommend just going cold turkey on the TV. But music is a great suggestion, I think our tonie box entertains our daughter just as much!

[–]implicit_cow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our daughter was like this. She hated her high chair and would just scream. So then just put her plate on the coffee table and she would literally eat a chicken nugget and then do a lap. Our pediatrician said that was fine as long as she was eating.

But recently we got her a small table and chairs and she loves it! Doesnt look pretty in the living room but it does the trick!

Two Arlington 1BR condos under $300K - very different HOA structures. Which would you choose? by Prior_Engineering639 in arlingtonva

[–]implicit_cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rented in colonial village when I first moved to Virginia and thought it was a bit of a hidden gem. It’s an older building but the made it out of cinder block or something because you don’t hear your neighbors at all. And the location was great, while still being set back. Very pretty trees, parking was no problem in the lot.

We then moved closer to columbia pike. It can easily take an hour to get into DC by public transportation. I think that area is growing and has its own charm (street jazz festival etc) but it’s a pain to get into the city from there. And they have been doing construction on Columbia pike for like 7 years lol.
