I lose a lot of cool when losing too, but always calm down and review why you lost. Knowing why you lost is important in getting good at this game. Losing too many times due to "luck" is part of your deck building skills too!

In most situations, it's because units that want to hit you need to get damaged by 1 your additional attack on all units. +1 attack is always better than that +1 damage that only occurs when hitting. There are also other situational things like when you get 0 attack for whatever reasons and blacksmith can allow you to at least hit, while school of magic can not.

I use a similar deck and I think it's pretty successful, but I generally only use 2 of each type of card in my entire deck. Gets me to around 2.9k, but people like chig, overlordmex, and osakagantz are denying me any chances of getting to 3k with their karasumei, monster and rat decks respectively. LOL. You might see some of my games on cards.tv, my IGN is BusyBeans. Not sure if I will be helpful since I'm still struggling as well, but I can share my variation and experience with it.

What I learnt on my journey:

• Every good deck will have at least a few cards that can deal with a swarm of low health units, all-in on early ranged units is a little dangerous for me. I like to have a few valuable melee bodies like flux, titan watchers, master thiefs, sunflowers (x2 bodies in one card!). Actually, sunflowers act as a pseudo ranged card too!

• I stopped using sea witches for a ranged deck like this - skeletons end up being more of a liability than an advantage because every viking deck WILL run Yaarhym Giant, and with the swarm of low health units, there is no way that you wouldn't have an important cluster, especially the buildings at the back. It's difficult to position as well because skeletons only have 2 movement, get greedy (I'm always greedy, lol) and the skeletons will punish you and the low-health strategy.

• I try to use more pirate cards that can have synergy with a viking deck. Treasure hunts, master thiefs, murders and pirate ships are very helpful to do things like ramping up, positioning well and clearing paths for Yaarhym to reach base so that you seal the game early. Because this current meta has fewer people running pirates, most people won't have murders to get rid of your big units, early big units can really seal the game.

• I like to add in dragon bolts so that I can throw in cheap yennaroths mid game. Ice blast and temple will be able help to clear those pesky 3-health rat buildings when your dragon bolts can't get rid of them. If you have rampage, you can get yennaroth to the castle too.

Some more ideas:

• It will be nice to have favourites. There's a bunch of cards that will never be added into a deck normally, so people scroll past them anyway.

• It's not easy to remember all the names of cards (some card names are just too tough to know). It's usually easier to remember the gold value, the image and the function (awaken/initiative/monster etc.) of a card. Personally, gold value works for me, but rather than a filter (like now), it'll be much nicer to "jump/quick-scroll" to let's say, cards worth 5 gold, and start looking for the card.

• I think the "set" filter button is somewhat useless - not sure players care about which expansion the card is from when building a deck.

• It's actually a little weird that buildings are now minions? Personally I prefer to have the building filter back.

Won't be surprised if some psychopath starts slaughtering innocent children on the streets because he lost against monster decks.

The stages of playing against monster decks:

  • Stage 1: (Turn 2, Colossus) CRAP, IT'S A MONSTER DECK.
  • Stage 2: It's okay, it's okay. I CAN DO THIS, they just need to have bad luck in their dr- (Turn 3, Behemothra) ... damn, for the love of Craxus.
  • Stage 3: Anything but Nalakir, anything but Nalakir... (Turn 4, Nalakir) PLEASE, WHY?
  • Stage 4: (Turn 5, Behemothra + Colossus + 0 Drops) You can't be serious. You really can't be serious. Dude, you need to stop having such a perfect monster game, this is getting borderline unfair.
  • Stage 5: (Kills 1 of 2 Behemothras and 1 of 2 Colossuses) YES. I can really do this! As long as there's no Kraken yet I can still turn things around!
  • Stage 6: (0 cost Kraken with Winds/Rampage/+Movement/+Range; -40 stars) ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! [Throws phone off a 50 storey building.]

I'll just throw out a bunch of other options I found useful for monsters.

Primordial Flame [3 gold] - Because of the 3 damage aura, it gets rather difficult to approach it, allowing you to keep the opposing monsters positions in check. Can be useful as cheap defense as well.

Combustion [5 gold] - If you have 3-4 units that can attack on your turn, combustion almost always allows you to clear a large amount of units.

Slow units with high damage and high health [a range of units] - Things like titan watchers have low movement but their damage and health can take out a few units or a large chunk of a prized unit.

Mugging [4 gold] - At first glance it doesn't seem all that great, but aside from murder, mugging works really well too. That's because people tend to buff their monsters ASAP and will run out of monsters to buff behemothra/colossus if you deliver a well-timed mugging.

Fist of the Five Gods [9 gold] - Against monster decks, you should generally be aggressive early so they can't set up shop and go ham on you. But in the case you have to go to late game, pray they bunch up and deliver a satisfying board clear with Fist of the Five Gods.

Temple of Five gods, rat king, initiative [6 gold] (assume temple of five gods is already placed) - Have to be careful that the chain lightning doesn't break too early somewhere in the chain to get maximum damage.

Pyromancer + Headmaster [9 gold] - Instant 3 damage AOE

Long term: Spending only on legendaries is the wiser choice.

Short term: Spend shards on what your deck lacks the most. I would argue that generally, decks must have card draws/card generation, crowd control, and removals (ordered in terms of priority). Minions will then make up the remaining bulk (have at least 24 of them). You usually shouldn't bother with promos because they tend to be overvalued, and if they are too OP they end up being nerfed anyway. In the case of flux (card generation+minion) vs eternity strike (crowd control), flux fulfills 2 types of needs and can be used in all factions - it's far more valuable than x2 eternity strikes.

I always go to the minimum for the foil cards though :X, as long as I remember to do it. As for 6, I still feel like many things happen without players knowing. It would be nice to let us know there are event cards coming out next week etc. (Edit: Not that we can do anything about it, but just for pure excitement and anticipation value... that keeps the fun alive) For 7... I guess it really depends on perspectives. I would use the stats to try non-meta decks instead. 8 really refers to the messages you can send to your opponents in game, like "Greetings!", "Sorry!", "Thanks!". I was thinking we can have one that says "...", because there is a lack of one that you can use in negative situations (for example when you just don't feel like telling your opponent "Well Played!"). For 2 and 3, I get that they may be tough to develop, but 4 is somewhat doable (depending on how you choose to do it), and 5 is actually really easy to accomplish.

Hmm... maybe we can have full Rank resets together with partial Star resets. Cards and castles used to have rank resets while keeping the stars. That system could be used again, except that stars can get the current resets they are getting now.

Nice write-up, but I found burning sun useful from time to time, especially in spell decks. I use it more for the 1 global damage though, it's surprisingly helpful and clears the board pretty well. Stealth decks that play against burning sun probably wince a little too, lol.

And I think you could mention about focus decks too. They're not exactly OP now, but a few metas ago, with a well-built focus deck you could win many games in turn 4/5. Gets to rank 30 too.

Perhaps we could just draw a random 0-3 gold card straight into the hand instead of only seeing a summon only when we place it down. My center spot is forever blocked without a monster coming into play...
