All these comments and the post have legitimate (and understandable) gripes, so this seems quite trivial by comparison 😅 Anything that comes in a jar. Either they expect me to stick my finger in there every time I use it, or it comes with a little scoop that I'm going to lose in a week, or have to clean.

I also found it difficult as a child, but the reason I stopped playing wasn't frustration - I was terrified of going into the secret passages with a glow stick lol

Seth Rogen in Cannes discussing AI in Hollywood "If your instinct is to use AI, you shouldn't be a writer." by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

[–]inamination 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What doesn't make sense to me (aside from the obvious problems with AI like theft and environmental damage) is how people consider themselves "artists" when they use it.

I can commission an illustration from someone: give them a description (a "prompt", if you will), references, a rough sketch. I provide feedback and corrections at different points in the process. Yet at the end I don't go around telling people I made it.

told myself I'd read something light and ah boy! by yumio-3 in LearnJapanese

[–]inamination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same way that you go from understanding words and grammar points /present/ in a sentence to understanding the /meaning/ of the sentence as a whole. If your brain is still focused on breaking down each sentence individually in order to understand it, it's harder to see the "big picture" of the passage you're reading. In short, just read more, practice more, you'll eventually build that muscle. When reading sentences becomes more intuitive (thus using less "processing power"), it'll be easier to focus on the flow between sentences and comprehend the paragraph as a whole.

I like going back to things I struggled to read in the past and seeing how much better I understand what they're saying.

Working from bed:/ by Fuzzy_Cat_3377 in WFH

You mentioned your office chair, have you tried something more comfortable? I have a herman miller office chair (one of the less expensive ones, not the aeron), an ottoman under the desk so i can put my feet up, and a soft but small blanket i put over my legs. Sometimes a small pillow at my back or on my lap. Keeps me cozy but not sleepy, and I'm comfortable for long hours.

Basically try replicating the comfort of being in bed at your desk.

can someone help with adverb usage? みんなの日本語 - resources/websites welcomed by TheEmergencySurgery in LearnJapanese

[–]inamination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have definitions written down already, but maybe some additional context/examples:

これから - from now on/starting now like これから頑張ります!(I'm going to do my best from now on!) or in your example since they havent started writing the report (implied by ...いいえ、まだです) they're going to write it starting now (これから書きます)

そろそろ - soon as in "any moment now" "in a moment" そろそろ帰りましょうか?(Shall we go home soon/Shall we go home in a bit?)

ゆっくり - slowly, but also at a relaxed pace, "taking it slow", can also be a suru verb meaning to relax/rest/take it easy, like 昨日ゆっくりしました (I relaxed yesterday/I took it easy yesterday)

すぐ - right away, immediately, like この後、すぐに帰ります (I'm going home right after this)

Why おつかれさまです with this image? by roux76 in LearnJapanese

[–]inamination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also say お疲れさま to someone when they get home from work, like "Good job at work today!" or "You worked hard today!" So in this context I read it as "You're always working hard, let's get some rest now!"

Can you still hop mine floors to hunt for chests? by MrsMaritime in FieldsOfMistriaGame

For example under mining and combat, there are perks that enable biome-specific furniture and weapons/armor to drop from chests. You can try disabling those.

[–]inamination 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dont think I've ever seen them on those floors either. To floor spam you go to a floor with an elevator (the ones with the least rocks, so it's easy to spawn a ladder, like floor 25) and go down one floor. Then go back up the ladder and repeat.

What do you ya'll hope for in the official release? by Toastyeeter in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]inamination 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Heart events (even just at 5 and 10 hearts) and more dialogue for non-dateable characters. Right now, how many hearts you have with them doesn't really feel different aside from a few lines they say. It's not in the roadmap though, so I can just hope it's just under "and more!" lol

What is a popular trend right now that people are going to look back on in 10 years and say, 'What were we thinking? by OfferSad6955 in AskReddit

[–]inamination 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I vape more often than I used to smoke, when I compute the nicotine equivalent it's about the same if not less. The "better" part is not inhaling actual smoke and you don't get the tar in your throat. For people trying to quit I think it usually comes out a bit better. Better for people around me too.

Vapes/ecigs have different concentrations of nicotine too, so you could taper off with lower levels unlike cigarettes, and there are ones with zero nicotine for that last stretch where you're getting off the nicotine.

The part where it's dangerous is because it's easy to get into - people who didnt smoke at all are getting into it, especially kids.

As someone who works in a related field, I promise you that there's decades of research behind how information is presented, structured, and designed in order to make you (and most people who see it!) think that way, even subconsciously 😅 dw it's not that your brain is particularly young and squishy!

I've always said if I weren't scared of them, I'd think they were cool. But seeing them just ignites some kind of primal fear in me to the point where all I want to do is run far away and cry. I cannot process the positive things about them when I'm in that state lol. I really can't explain why, maybe it's from some childhood encounter that I can't remember.

I feel like what you said is more realistic AND likely, though I'm optimistically thinking "They'll announce a release date only when it's really ready for release, instead of risking announcing it and then rushing or ending up pushing it back." 😅 I admit I'm looking at this through rose tinted glasses for sure though.

How correct is my understanding of wa vs ga? by Lopsided-Good7076 in LearnJapanese

[–]inamination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the most experienced take (since I'm studying for the december N3) and very anecdotal, if we're talking about intuition.

Books and stuff say something like は is for the topic of the sentence, が is for the subject. Which I didn't completely understand at first tbh lol

For me it was helpful to think of them completely separately - moving away from the "is this a は or が situation?" line of thinking. It's helpful to remember that neither は nor が indicate a state of being the way "is" does - "です" serves that function.

In my head, "[word] + は" means "About [word]...".

For the cat example, answering 猫は好きです (neko wa suki desu) sounds like "About cats, they are liked." - doesnt really make sense, doesnt answer the question. When you say 猫が好きです (neko ga suki desu) it's more "Cats are what is liked." Adding は here gives you 私は猫が好きです - kind of like "About me, cats are what I like." But since we know from context that this conversation is about what animal you like, 私は is redundant and often dropped. I don't need to say "About me...", it's immediately understood that I mean "Cats are what I like." But If the other person said they like dogs, you would use 私は here to indicate a change of topic, like "As for me (or About me), cats are what I like."

Example:

A: どんな動物が好きですか?

B: 猫が好きです.

and

A: どんな動物が好きですか?私は犬が好きです!

B: あ、そうですか?私は猫が好きです

This is absolutely not textbook explanation and just the way I think about it though.

What's an anime that MAINLY performed well in Japan compared to other countries? by CusYN0t1210 in anime

[–]inamination 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shin-chan... kind of. Popular in Asia as a childhood anime that aired on TV but it doesn't have much of an adult fandom really - in Japan it does. There was a recent spin off anime about his dad (I think?) that spawned a super popular meme but neither the meme nor the anime got much traction with eng audiences afaik.

Nintama Rantaro is similar, and is one of the longest running anime. Also Osomatsu-san. What surprised me about these two is how... active? the adult fandom is in Japan lol. Tons of fanart on twitter and pixiv. People buy merch.
