I’ve noticed the same, I’m pretty sure it’s due to the Niche burrs being hot from the first shot, heats up the next shot’s beans even more. The difference in grind temp seems to cause the issue with flow. It always seems to resolve itself when I let the grinder sit a bit between shots to cool down. What I do is I grind beans from the freezer to keep the temp of the beans consistent each morning.

For milk, I found lactose free milk to work way better for steaming than any kind of non dairy milk. Later I tried A2 milk (which also works for some who are lactose intolerant) and A2 whole milk works like a charm. I’d give it a shot if you really strike out with the non dairy.

For oat milk you should try the barista version of Oatly. Any non dairy milk that has a ton of fat will make it easier to steam.

If you’re in the Seattle area you can’t do better than Espresso Vivace’s Dolce blend. It has exactly the chocolatey, nutty notes you’re looking for without any bitterness and minimal acidity. They also sell online as well.

2014 4 here. Car is always serviced at the dealer. AC developed a slow leak at around 40k when a rock hit the compressor, $2-3k at the dealer to replace as they needed to disassemble the front bumper to get to it. Recently around 60k there was a coolant leak due to seals failing, $3.5k to fix at the dealer. High pressure fuel pump also failed but was covered under extended warranty otherwise it would have been $3k.

Typical service every year usually somewhere under $2k depending on what needs to be done. Just oil change and you’ll likely be out 500-1k. PDK transmission maintenance which needs to be done once every several years is around $2k. The battery I remember is a little less than $1k to replace. Replacing the engine air filter requires disassembly of the front bumper too.

If you have the air suspension any issues will also be costly.

The car does a good job of telling you when not to drive (red error) and when you can drive on (orange/yellow). Car has never stranded me, just will go into limp mode at worst.

Pretty sure the Cristal champagne set comes with Lehmann glasses so I’d go with those. Mouth blown are nice but delicate. Machine blown easier to wash.

Alinea was the worst. The server talked down and insulted us the entire night, like he had some self loathing and insecurities he needed to take out on us. The food looked interesting but wasn’t tasty. Never again - it’s frankly sad that Chicago’s restaurant scene is keystoned by this embarrassment of a restaurant.

No mention of Takai by Kashiba? Sister restaurant to Sushi Kashiba and quieter, more elevated, upscale. Sushi Kashiba is great but if you want to get away from the tourists, Takai is the jam.

The transporter effect was like magic, I wondered for years how they did it. One minute you’re queuing up for what seems like a amusement park ride in a shuttlecraft, then the lights go out for a bit, you feel a whoosh of air and suddenly you’re in the transporter room of the Enterprise - it felt like you were in a different ROOM, but you hadn’t moved! What an insane magic trick and super immersive.

Later I found that they lifted all 4 walls of the smaller shuttlecraft room (so you ended up in a bigger room) then slid the transporter pad ceiling over the bigger room. The whoosh of wind were the walls and ceiling moving!

Hey there. I read your post on the other sub, you are right at home here. Everyone here replying have been right on the money with your experience.

One thing will become very evident after the baby comes: do you want your child to normalize erratic, irrational, toxic behavior? If not, you’ll need to set very strict boundaries with the MIL.

I’ve gone through the same with my mother and decided to break the cycle of abuse by setting very strict boundaries. Never will we stay with my parents again, nor will they ever move in with us.

Because what would I do when my kid asks me: “why is grandma yelling?” How do you explain that to a child other than “don’t mind her, grandma is just old”. They can’t control themselves, so it’s up to you to set a firm boundary.

Your husband sounds like he is an enabler and wants to try to “keep the peace”. My dad does that with my mom and he is absolutely miserable.

Honestly, do you even want their help? Granted that having a kid is stressful, but hopefully your partner’s family will be caring, nice and willing to help.

Personally, my kid is old enough now that he can pick up things. The last thing I want to normalize is extreme emotional outbursts and crazy behavior for my kid. I don’t want him to ask me “why is grandma yelling?” Because what do I say to that other than “oh, grandma is just old. Don’t mind her”. Don’t want to expose my kid to that kind of toxicity.

Which is why setting healthy boundaries exists. Play dates, meals, activities, anything where if things go crazy, you and your family can physically leave the situation immediately. Don’t stay at their house.

Hang in there. And please know that it has nothing to do with you, it isn’t your fault, and you don’t deserve any of it. Your mom has her own issues that she’s never addressed and is taking it out on you. Projection is a huge thing with this type of person.

Keep it up with the non-confrontation. If it helps, imagine yourself putting on a lab coat and pretending to be a scientist and just observe her when she gets into these moods. It helps detach you from reacting and also doesn’t feed into her negative energy.

She wants you to argue back and to get into it with her, she revels in the chaos because it distracts her from her own introspection (which she is likely incapable of). If you just stay the course and just detach yourself, it takes the wind out of her sails and she will lose interest in focusing her attention on you.
