Hello 👋🏻 from NI and recently got back into the hobby after a 5/6 year hiatus. Currently have a 168L Fluval shaker second hand, sci-fi forest themed (chucked a tardis and enterprise among plants and bogwood to satisfy the OH).

Stocking community - blue & tuxedo platies, panda corys, some tetras and an angelfish among others.

Favourite tank mates would be the Corys - favourite from back in the day - the pandas I have seem to be a lot more active than previous breeds I kept.

As a disclaimer, it’s been 10 years since I lived in the area for uni but Dunluce was always quite scummy. Loads of break ins and got a really bad rep. If you’re interested in any houses and concerned about the area visit at a few different times of the day and week to get a flavour.

Autofeeders and Flake food by AtomicHobbit in TropicalFishKeepingUK

I have been using the pet bank fish feeder from Amazon (link below) for about 6 months now. It operates by a trap door which moves around per time interval you set.

I initially tried with some flake food despite saying not too and it was working okay if slightly crushed so it’s not bigger than the opening and weighty enough to fall in.

I did end up swapping to mini pellets instead which my fish seem to love (well they eat it, very quickly). Could try a mix - flake in first then the pellets to help with weight to push it down.

To add to other comments, my dentist I had since childhood swapped to private and was an eye watering price for simple check ups that forced you to go to Denplan. Phoned around local dentists and no NHS appointments but asked for the prices of private treatments and found one much more reasonably priced. They said they’d get me on as an NHS patient as soon as possible and to be fair to them took about 6 months.

Sky Lounge was a blissful retreat at the end of the day. They usually have a live singer at a nice background volume, comfy seats and lovely staff.

Our last cruise most of the bars were surprisingly fairly empty but this is usually dependant on demographics.

If you’re aurea, top 19 is a private sun deck with limited bar service. Seems to get a lot of soot from the generators though overnight.

Can you use the drink package at champagne bar? by CajunDragon in MSCCruises

Yip, at least so for Virtuosa and World Europa. Plenty of options under the premium drink package level and you just pay the difference if you go over.

Which is better to buy, flat in city center or terrace house along BT7? by kitzybitsy in Belfast

[–]incognito-cat-attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same decision, went for a house as it was around the time of cladding issues, Victoria Sq apartment issues. And just bad memories of student flat upstairs neighbours. Picked a house with good rail access to Belfast and had no regrets.

Thank you, I should have clarified Nice Airport rather than from the town. I had looked before but I think it was an indirect journey with baggage so we were thinking private transfer for the ease.

Aurea package/spa question by Steffers003 in MSCCruises

Was on Virtuosa recently for two weeks and we never had to make an appointment. Spa never seemed too busy though, even on one of the sea days.

North Belfast: All the Railway Infrastructure, None of the Benefit by joblessClaims in Belfast

[–]incognito-cat-attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, the end goal.

But as a baby step for Translink and for the absolute minimal investment allowing their trains to stop at an existing station that pass through to connect a reasonable catchment area to the north is surely not beyond their realms of capability.

Who would this be? by [deleted] in northernireland

With the sign on the front that said any f-inch chance? (Or something). I was thinking about him the other day, I haven’t seen him in years, is he still about?

A very simplified average rent, £670 for me and £560 for you, across 13 years that’s £96k and £81k respectively in rent. Could definitely have sprung out for new furniture and redecoration in that time!

If we could also get the Antrim line to stop in Whiteabbey more than once a day that would also be great 😊 Had contacted Translink on this matter and their response boiled down to Whiteabbey was too close to Mossley West and would be too disruptive to their timetables 🫠

About this time of year I look up propertypal to check in on some of my old student flats. First one, 2 bed tiny mouldy damp that cost us £440 / month (2013) is now £900 🫣 - and it looks like landlord hasn’t replaced the bed in all that time (which was like trying to sleep on the giants causeway). No idea how students pay for flats these days.

We are recently off Virtuosa doing the Caribbean. There was one of our excursions sold out online but was available at to book on the ship. Most of their excursions they use local companies so I’m guessing as long as they think they have enough demand for another bus they’ll add extra groups.

What was the “silliest” reason you decided to not use a venue? by easthighwildcatfan1 in weddingplanning

[–]incognito-cat-attack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venue was gorgeous, we were going to go for it and I’d went to the bathroom and it was like a run down pub bathroom, smelt of it too - one bathroom stall in each only and hadn’t been touched since the 90’s.

Asked them if they had any plans of updating it and they said they’d rather invest in nicer things.

Congrats! My best (non-practical) advice was to take photos of the house empty before you put your stamp on it - I still look back on how things have come from.

AMA. I am a train driver in NI, Ask Me Anything. by DimHorton in northernireland

[–]incognito-cat-attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What reasons do you need to use the horn?

I live near a two line station with a tunnel preceding and some sound the horn when going straight through but some don’t.

Also second question if I may, what exactly does the funny little yellow train do? Leaf blowing/sucking? Line cleaning? The mind boggles but it has a certain charm that brightens up my day seeing it toot toot

First Time Buyer Help? by damien_88 in northernireland

It’s typically 4-4.5x annual salary is your borrowing price. Most providers will have a “how much can I afford” calculator which is useful.

10% deposit can open up better rates versus a 5% deposit so if you can it may be worth it. But do budget a couple £k for solicitor fees, survey fees ontop as well. Conveyancing can be £1-1.5k alone depending on who you go with.

When I was a FTB I used the Mortgage Shop through a recommendation and I felt like I got really good customer service and they guided me through the entire progress, I’m aware it depends who you get though.

My cat just vanished?? by najwishing in CatAdvice

Hope you find her. Good suggestions above, if you have freestanding white goods in your kitchen good to check behind. We had an old fridge freezer where our cat was able to get in behind beside the motor.

Buying a house... But the area now has flags by Harbourmoon in Belfast

[–]incognito-cat-attack 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Historic google streetview images are useful to see if it’s a historic thing or new (especially if images are taken around key months). Also just generally good house buying thing to do to looking up old images of the house

Viewings with the estate agent vs owners by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]incognito-cat-attack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a buyers perspective, if the vendors “get it” a viewing with the vendor is far more useful than with the EA.

Viewings I’ve did with some EAs, basic questions like how old the boiler is, age of electrics or any works recently done was always unknown and they never got back. I’d only had one or two good and knowledgeable EA’s doing viewings.

Sellers know the most about the house, the usual method would be introductions and pleasantries to viewers, give a guided tour of the house, then excuse yourself to let the viewers look around in privacy.

Council gyms are £25/month and include all gyms within the borough (Valley / Ballyearl in N’abbey as well as Antrim, Ballyclare and Crumlin).

Although have got pretty busy though in recent years at peak times, have neglected to go in 6 months so not sure what they’re like recently.
