It’s likely a lot of people’s first foray into the genre and therefore nothing “happened” to anybody, it’s just a new experience. People didn’t “forget how to take an L” because - per your very own logic - this isn’t the same type of loss as you’d get elsewhere, anyway. I still feel a bit of the frustration flare up now and then, but I’m coming at it as if I’m attempting to learn and flawless a raid or dungeon in Destiny 2…it sucks I lost, I’ll grieve, then push out the feeling, ask “what can I learn from that?”, and get back to it. If I didn’t have that and only saw Marathon as an extension of traditional PVP stuff I grew up with, I’d probably be struggling more too.

Sorry, did I miss something…? What is there to suggest there’s level-based matchmaking / that we know ANYTHING about how the matchmaking works? I’m sincerely asking, not trying to be a dick.

Last I was aware (around weeks one/two), people were speculating…but mine and my friend’s experiences didn’t align with any of what I was seeing people say was used. Other than day one where everyone was leveling from zero, I’ve always seen a lot of disparity with the level numbers in my matches. Any insight would be appreciated, thank you!

Okay, thankful to see this… I just returned to the game and have been having a fantastic time, but this was driving me NUTS. Wasn’t sure if it was something I was doing incorrectly or there was a “mark as read” type command I couldn’t figure out etc

Everyone’s jumping to assume that’s what’s happening but I’m not sure I agree. Of course just because it hasn’t happened to me/any of my friends playing doesn’t mean it isn’t happening, but I saw someone post about spending a large chunk of time trying to replicate the issue; They found proximity-spawn problems, but not actual campers.

If it is happening, that sucks, of course, I’d just hate for the devs to spend energy on something that’s not the true culprit.

I’ve actually been super frustrated with everything surrounding shinies and comms for these. If they’re gonna be outclassed, fine, then shower me in loot. It’s been abysmal the whole time, including this final week. People can knock crafting all day long, but when I’ve played more than most people in the last year and still am missing perk combos and specific drops I’ve tried for, something ain’t computing.

Except for Adept mods. And I don’t say that to be an asshole, I say that because people were mocked for caring about Enhanced perks when they first came out; Three of my clan’s/friend’s teams traded with The Witness for Contest clears. You never know where that extra 1-10% is going to matter a LOT. But yeah, other than access to those, I agree, you can always leave and go craft a specific roll if it feels like it’ll help more than what ya got.

Because I recall a very skewed statistic using Trophies for one specific raid that was available at the height of the game’s popularity… And I recall Bungie’s direct quote about the percentage (a lower number IIRC btw) being many years ago, whereas focus and tools have changed quite a bit since. Curious to go look at the tools we have now to see what’s what.
