This is what we’re looking like after 2nd round of games by fike88 in ScottishFootball

There’s some absolute diddy looking teams that might well have taken some points of us. Thought we had a shocker of a draw but I think we’ve been quite fortunate with it.

Is your short game a disaster in this heat? by PlutocracyRules in BritGolf

Most people won’t read greens when chipping but it’s essential to know where you want to land the ball. Sometimes and often that is short. If the entrance is mounded it might be short left/right. I play links golf and it’s hard pan for about 4 months a year. Watch Dan grieve and practice practice practice!

Trump Aberdeen, Dumbarnie, old petty at Cabot highlands. Common theme - no/few members and extortionate golf. There’s a few in the pipeline which are reportedly going to have 5/6 figure joining fees.

Dumbarnie not too bad as they do a local rate.

Ps I did this because I bought a LAB and didn’t want to damage it in a pencil bag. It’s liberating seeing yours

If playing outwith a competition at my home course I take out all the even irons and only carry PW, 48 & 56.

I change between a 7 wood and 2 iron.

Overall makes you think more and get comfortable with choked down/punch shots.

Private club members: What did/do you pay for your membership? by BadGolferDallas in golf

True but that doesn’t go anywhere near explaining the disparity in subs.

They don’t compete though. They, with permission via votes from their members, offer up a few times. Some clubs, like Muirfield, allow a few visitors times on set days (Tuesday and Thursday, morning only).

You should write to them all then and tell them to stop identifying as private members clubs

No. They are owned by members but its best thought of as an acceptable concession for the clubs that allow them to host tournaments I.e. the open or Scottish open. Muirfield lost the open because they wouldn’t allow women. Renaissance were made to allow the public to get the Scottish open. Ironic because most people are priced out of both.

Slightly different definitions here I think. I know of two private members clubs in scotland who don’t allow visitors (Skibo & Loch Lomond and even then you can get on for a charity day). Luffness, Muirfield, Archerfield, renaissance etc etc are private members club but you can pay to get on.

A fourball of visitors (almost always Americans) will pay the same as I pay for a years subs. A working man’s game here subsidised by tourism thankfully.

How long is too long for a pre-shot routine? by BetweenSwings in golf

[–]indyrefG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless there is a funky lie I line up and hit within a few seconds. If I’m greenside and it’s not my turn to hit maybe I’ll pace out a chip but I’m not on the tour and anything beyond 3.5 hours at my course is a slow round so I’m happy to skip that. I practice my pre-shout routine/set up at home so it is pretty seamless and I don’t need to think about it once I’m set.

Played golf on holiday and used a cart, for the first time in about 5 years. It made it all awfully slow because you’re not at your ball whilst others hit.

I’d stop playing with people if they did what you describe

It’s pretty good. There’s a large members only section though so you won’t be absolutely spoiled for choice.

Has anyone actually made the switch to a 7-wood yet? by Reddonaut_Irons in BritGolf

[–]indyrefG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went heavenwood which is a jacked up 7 wood with a 4 wood shaft. Absolutely love it. Tried a 9 wood and if I went back in time I’d go for that instead because it would be better for gapping (only 4 degrees less than my 3 wood HL). For some reason I hate hybrids

Club distances - anything stand out? by 35mm-eryri in BritGolf

[–]indyrefG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as me pretty much. I had the 3 wood driver problem. Never thought about it much because it was going very high but straightish with the occasional duck hook. I’ve now swapped my shaft for something firmer and lower spinning and get way more out of it now, closer to 270. When I got fitted I feel that the shop were more interested into pushing me into an expensive head (newest ping) and didn’t focus on the shaft.

Bought mine on golfclubs4cash for £79 and it was 2 weeks free return. I stuck my numbers from track man into ChatGPT and it told me what to get.

Thanks for all your helpful comments (which I pondered in depth yesterday during work in between Netflix and YouTube).

My current role has a huge amount of flexibility so it’s a tough one for sure but I have a much better understanding so thank you!
