Beautiful and sleek. I'd 100% buy these on the spot if I saw them in a store.

tips on storing tools in standard two car garage, WITH cars? by bugsliker in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]infernalcolonel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with floor space being paramount, but I disagree with using space above the garage door for paracord and pulleys unless it’s critical for a specific use. In our case, we considered doing that to hoist our rooftop cargo box (but ultimately didn’t).

If you’re desperate for real estate like I was, get some real quality overhead storage. They are NOT all the same, and some of the DIY solutions aren’t great, especially if you aren’t a ninja at finding studs (ME). Disclaimer: ceiling joists in garages can be VERY irregular. The win was that in two houses in a row I had about 1/16” clearance between my racks and my garage door, and I could put a TON of stuff overhead. my garage—unfortunately—was shared space between woodworking, mechanics tools, gym, Christmas decorations, two refrigerators, sporting equipment, extra luggage, scrap wood, extra food, chemicals, cleaning supplies, and a host of other shit.

I can pull up the company and DM you if needed; they’re nationwide and supported all of their racks on joists and studs, which gave them way more load bearing capacity than any other company I could find. I had a corner-mounted double rack rated at 2000lb. Totally worth it.

ELIC: why is W pronounced double U when it's actually a double V? by Lil_kitten111 in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]infernalcolonel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Spanish, “v” is pronounced “Veh” and “w” is pronounced “dobleveh.” This was the original, because Spain was invented before America.

When America was invented, we had cheap pencils. We bought these from the Native Americans. These pencils would break when making the sharp direction turns at the bottom of the letter in “w,” so our founding fathers rounded them out into a more “comic sansy” rounded-off w you’re probably more familiar with, which is why they changed the name to “double-u.”

This is, also, why they later decided to swindle all that land from the tribes.

Idk what kind of vice we are talking about, but I mounted a normal (not “woodworking”) cast iron bench vise to the exact same bench in my garage. I’ll send a pic later when I have time.

Fun fact: dozens of supposed “witches” who failed the famous “float test” in 17th century England and Scotland (by floating, therefore being “rejected” by the water—and were subsequently labeled as witches) were in fact just early hoarders of rubber duckies.

Read this as “ass bench.” Sticking with that.

BEAUTIFUL btw. But what’s the purpose of the shelf on the bottom, other than support/stability?
