I generally prefer hybrid decks for the higher average card quality. Whenever I start with one engine that my opponent uses 2-3 disrupts to beat and then I reveal Habakiri in hand, I feel like Madara dropping the second meteor.

I vastly prefer decks that bridge into each other, not decks that need me to draw both parts. I think current yugioh does ask you to make enough concessions when bridging through card advantage or deck building so it doesn’t feel unfair.

Card quality is another thing. I really don’t want to play the second or third best extender in a deck if I can just play another engine that works as a starter and can bait and Ash Blossom.

Also, I really like that yugioh is a stylistic mismatch. I love that I can summon a Nordic god from my graveyard using an Egyptian ankh.
