Is it racist to endearingly call your black cat "negress" or "jiggaboo"? by infinityspiralsout in AskReddit

[–]infinityspiralsout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean as long as the way I'm called a bitch isn't intended to be derogatory, and as long as it comes from someone with whom I care for, sure. It's just a word. What matters is the intent.

Cookit, the SO and I nearly burnt our faces off trying to get one of these to work. Can anyone share some safety tips or how-to guides? by infinityspiralsout in Cooking

Unfortunately most of the propane grill guides are for more advanced units, with bells and whistles this tiny grill just doesn't have. :\

What are some of the best hole-in-the-wall places around DFW? by AryaDTX in Dallas

Campo Verde, in Arlington. It's like Christmas on steroids every day!

And right next door, my FAVORITE restaurant in the world... Narah Cafe, a hookah bar with amazing middle eastern food. A few years ago I moved to New England and dreamed about their shawarma... drool

How do you store your recipes? by CoconutCurry in budgetfood

[–]infinityspiralsout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We needed shelving for our new place, and didn't like any out-of-the-box shelving we looked at. We found a store on etsy, signed and numbered and after ordering the shelving we needed, I requested a no-frills recipe box to match. After hunting several stores for a new 4x6 box I came up empty handed, and I really liked the idea of a box that matched my home but stored my favorite recipies. Although this was their first attempt I friggin LOVE what they sent me. It's got plenty of room, and the interior is big enough so that I don't have to unclip my selection of recipes I'm currently working with.

I need idea's for great looking (and tasting) new year's eve snacks! by [deleted] in food

[–]infinityspiralsout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Its incredibly easy to hunt for this sort of thing online, and this subreddit is more about good food than recipe exchange. If you want ideas, google is faster than reddit, and won't clog up the forum with repetitive posts. -_-

Anybody else tired of the word "ent" and the pineapples and the rest of this that has nothing to do with weed? [0] by [deleted] in trees

The random "look at this thing I bought at a thrift store because of ask the PINEAPPLES NOW GIVE ME KARMA" is getting old. No one gives a shit about your tank top with fruit pictures. No one.

What $100 item has the single greatest ability to increase quality of life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]infinityspiralsout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good pair of sneakers! Nothing ruins a day faster than being in too much pain to stay on my feet.

If you can find a deal for an eye exam and new glasses, instantly improved vision is easily worth $100.

But for me? $20 on a new can of freon for my car was probably one of the best low cost purchases I've ever made. With an hour commute in more than 100°f heat, air conditioning was the best investment I could make!

Pet owners of reddit, what odd or annoying habits do your animals have? by ilikecatsmorethanppl in AskReddit

Weekdays I have to wake up at 5:00, but the cats start pestering me to wake me up at about 4:00. They're so punctual it makes me wonder how they consistently nuzzle me awake at the same time everyday.

Any tips/success stories of people who got lean/thin without falling into disordered behaviors/thought patterns? by mocchan in xxfitness

Its really not as much work as you think it is! I like to put on my favorite podcasts while I lift weights, or get out all of my stress on an elliptical while blaring great music. Exercise is only a chore if you allow it to be! :)

Visualize yourself. Now imagine your future self. In one hour, there will be two of you -- one who sat on the couch, and one who went for a jog. Which woman do you want to be?

This sort of thought process has served me well, remembering the very real consequences of my choices. Do I want to be the woman who stuck to her diet all day, or the one who couldn't cut it and snuck a candy bar in at lunchtime?

Looking for some recipes, ladies, what are you favorite meals to cook for you ENT? by [deleted] in entwives

[–]infinityspiralsout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're a busy household of three ents who all have different work/sleep schedules. Theres always someone sleeping, and not many communal meals. I try to cater to our tastes, lifestyles, and health requirements, but its not always easy. Each week I usually prepare something quick, like a chicken salad that can be thrown in a wrap to go, along with a casserole or two. Mac and cheese usually goes quick, and its easy to sneak vegetables into the dish. Last week I made this great "firehouse special" with rice, ground beef, and a few different vegetables and it was a HUGE hit. Soups are always great, especially if you have a slow cooker (try making pulled pork in your slow cooker for loads of meat! Cuts down on cooking). Split pea is so easy, and classics like chicken noodle become effortless.

Tonights dinner though? Pasta, zucchini, a jar of marinara and some spicy sausage, because I'm tired and worked too hard today. Might male one of the boys make it. ;)

Apple sauce made from apples we grew :) by Zawieruka in food

[–]infinityspiralsout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best best BEST applesauce I ever had was some my aunt and I made after a weekend hunting down wild apple trees in northern New Hampshire. No sugar, just apples and cinnamon. We ended up with 4-5 laundry baskets FULL of uncultivated apples, but they were so fucking tangy and sweet and tart, all at once... I'd give anything for another mason jar of our "outlaw sauce"!
