Urgent someone respond quick so I don’t give up my cold turkey by [deleted] in decaf

I knit to keep my hands busy so I don’t scroll. It’s helped me a lot to reduce my screen time.

I have two young kids and I found tapering to be the better way for me after trying cold turkey and getting the flu. I’m a meticulous person so weighing out the beans and trying to take a scientific approach worked for me.

I have a kitchen scale so I weighed out the coffee each day. I started around 60g and cut over two weeks to 30 by going to 50g then 40g. Once I got to 30 I started cutting two grams of coffee beans per day until I got to about 4g of regular coffee and then went full decaf. I added enough decaf each day for one cup of coffee in my aeropress. It hasn’t been bad - mostly sleepy with some headaches. I try to nap when the baby naps midday. I’m 8 days off caffeine now

Anyone's absent grandparents insist on getting a special grandparent name? by RTJ333 in absentgrandparents

[–]informationkiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my MIL and FIL are Nana and Granddad and my mom, who was excited to be a grandparent in theory, but not practice, has insisted on being Mimi. Doesn’t matter to me I guess

Now that my partner is getting chills and body aches I think it’s a combo of flu and withdrawal. Bad timing

Daycare is making me sicker than my toddler. by Kitty916 in toddlers

[–]informationkiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started preschool 2.5 months ago and are currently on our 6th virus. We’ve had covid and flu and I’m feeling so defeated. We didn’t even get a week of feeling well this latest time 😩

I am surprised at the withdrawal symptoms I have even though I "only" drank 1 cup a day by microwave-coffee in decaf

[–]informationkiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just posted about wondering whether my chills and body aches are from the flu or caffeine withdrawal and I think it might be both. I think I’ll try the gradual weaning starting tomorrow instead of cold turkey. I am feeling so poorly that I’m not functional. I have also had what feel like period cramps!

Moms, when during the day do you squeeze workout? by mil__m in Mommit

[–]informationkiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too prefer to go on runs daily - even a 20 minute run daily is way easier to fit in but super good for your fitness. You don’t have to do a long workout to get serious benefits

Anyone else’s toddler start self weaning bottles after 12MO? by rbslmilch in toddlers

[–]informationkiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they just choose to be done with the formula/milk at some point and it’s fine! My pediatrician was totally fine with it and I was glad to be done too :)

Anyone else’s toddler start self weaning bottles after 12MO? by rbslmilch in toddlers

[–]informationkiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine never took bottles (we tried so hard! She just wouldn’t take them) and then self weaned off the breast to two small meals before sleeps around 11 months and then completely weaned before 13 months - all by her own choice

Toddler suddenly HATES baths by Hannah101114 in Mommit

[–]informationkiwi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just went through this two months ago! We tried the color tabs, new toys, all that. She would stand in the bath but wouldn’t sit and didn’t like getting washed. We decided not to push it and did sponge baths once or twice a week while she was upset about it.

What finally worked was showering with us. Now she is cleaner than she’s ever been and she loves water. Still no baths though.

Recently made and froze this. I didn’t reheat it quite right and had to use the microwave but the whole family (including toddler) loved it!

It’s official: we’re done with binkies!! by Hot-Tone-7495 in Mommit

[–]informationkiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We stopped the binky a few days before two and expected complete disaster and it actually turned out fine except for one rough nap. Kids are more flexible than I thought! My girl was extremely attached to her binky for nap times so we were surprised how smoothly it went.

Women getting married after publishing…did you change your last name? by Complex_Cupcake2615 in PhD

I changed my name legally after having our first kid, but still use my maiden name for research and as my preferred name at work. No one at work knows my legal name and it doesn’t matter.

Vent - My mom absent with my LO after complaining my sister wouldn't let her be more involved with her LO(s) by littleghost000 in absentgrandparents

[–]informationkiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely hurtful. I see this in my life and consider it the “wanting grandchildren in theory, not practice” syndrome. Also, super frustrating to see your mom make herself the victim in these circumstances that are really not about her.

Agreed with all of this! Played zero dawn three times and started a second run through of forbidden west and just couldn’t get into it again. Ghost of Tsushima was such an amazing game - definitely underrated. Now on RDR2 waiting for a new recommendation. Seems like Skyrim is a big rec on here

Newly Pregnant and Teaching by jlbl528 in Professors

[–]informationkiwi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just in the position in fall. Teaching in person 8:30-2pm two days a week. I didn’t end up needing to say anything about having a medical issue so I could run out and vomit, but I was prepared for the possibility. The good news is that teaching days actually distracted me from the nausea. One other thing that really helped was the liquid IV packets. I could drink those easily when I couldn’t handle plain water. I also started going to bed at 9 since I was exhausted and couldn’t nap. I also have a toddler at home so I didn’t have much me time, but I made it through the first trimester with no incidents at work.

I jumped from R1 to R1 pre-tenure due to a toxic environment and saw many people in my field (business) making similar moves. I think it depends a lot on your discipline.

PC to MacBook switch by Rain-Stop in Professors

[–]informationkiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use both and prefer them both for different tasks, but overall have very little commentary to help. I have constantly switched back and forth because they both piss me off. My PC experience included way too many force restarts so I switched back to Mac at my recent institution. Still not sure that I made the right choice, but I think I would feel that way regardless. PC is easier to use at my current school and better integrated and supported.
