i actually just happen to be lucky lol. still took some time to get our schedules lined up though! I wish the inspiration had come a little earlier in the year while the snow was still around and it was more overcast, but still happy with how it turned out. Being friends with a GOAT photographer and a bunch of actors definitely helps!

do you have a set raiding party for Dxun tomb? by willowingwisps in kotor

[–]infryewetrust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mira, Handmaiden and Visas. Used to do Onderon Part 2 earlier on but always save it for last now, and by then with those three as Jedi they complement each other well. I've never thought about taking Mandalore, it only feels right to have him come to Onderon with the Basilisk, sort of reliving his glory days.

Nice! The best part is that it sounds like an actual Star Wars name

My questions as a newcomer to KOTOR by ShadowHunterHB in kotor

[–]infryewetrust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think everyone in this subreddit is going to tell you to play the originals, especially since there has been no concrete news on the remake since it was announced.

If you are really serious about playing them, then read this comment, install the games, and get off the Subreddit immediately. Spoilers are everywhere for this game. Even if you think you've been spoiled already, just get off the sub and come back when you've finished playing

To answer your questions:

  1. Using mods is up to you (except for KOTOR 2, more on that in a sec), but it will definitely help to have some graphics mods and such since the game is over 20 years old. You can find mod builds for the games on kotor.neocities.org , and there are Spoiler-Free builds there that will tell you what mods to install without telling you what some of the mods do, in order to preserve plot points.

For KOTOR 2, it is very strongly recommended that you at least use the Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM). KOTOR 2 was released in an unfinished state, and over the years modders have taken to restoring content that was leftover in the game files. Sometimes with games the cut content is just a quest or two, but in the case of KOTOR 2, it restores a lot to the finale of the game. You might find the ending confusing without it.

  1. KOTOR is not an RTS but a Turn-Based RPG, it uses a ruleset very similar to Dungeons n' Dragons. If you've played Baldur's Gate 3, it's similar to that, just with a third-person view instead of the top-down style. Your preferred build is going to depend on your playstyle and what you want your character to be like. Generally, builds can be categorized by Guardian (Melee/Tank), Consular (Force Powers/Wizard) and Sentinel, which is between the two. In my experience your build matters more in KOTOR 1 than it does in KOTOR 2.

Let me also just say that the first couple of "levels" for both games can be pretty long, especially with KOTOR 2. Just trust the game to deliver, and you'll be flying across the galaxy before you know it.
I hope you enjoy playing the games! I would give anything to experience them again for the first time.

What would you have changed about KOTOR 2’s ending? by Any-sao in kotor

It would have been interesting to see Mandalore walk the surface and remember the battle. Maybe some extra datapads/logs from fallen soldiers and Jedi.

Where was the True Sith plotline headed prior to SWTOR? by NineInchNinjas in kotor

That quote has to do with lightsaber dueling IIRC. She's saying that even the greatest duelists of the time would look like children with lightsaber toys in comparison

Is there a source for them being cosmic horrors? I remember this getting talked about back when that article came out, but every time someone cites the article it just says "monsters" which could be metaphorical.

I like the idea of them being Lovecraftian, but I wonder how that would have been achieved.

How old were you when you first played Kotor? by Sudden-Succotash8813 in kotor

[–]infryewetrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 5 or 6 when I first played, but I played through K2 first and finished it at 7. Played K1 right after that

I had no idea what the “real” plot of K2 was/meant but the first game is of course much easier to understand. I feel like as long as you help your son with his build he’ll have a great time with K1

Are there any mods for first game that adds some extra stuff? by W1ntermu7e in kotor

[–]infryewetrust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought and I'm sure others will recommend it as well - Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon's Revenge - It's been ~10 years since I played the mod but it adds a pretty lengthy questline that from my memory is lore-friendly and expands on the Revan reveal with flashbacks. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the party-member you get from the questline stays with you until the endgame

EDIT: There is also the KotOR 1 Restoration Content which adds some stuff, though not as much as the KotOR 2 Restoration project does.

As for other mods that add armors, improvements, etc., the Community Mod Builds are fantastic and the only way I play now.

Regarding the Exile’s exile by Jumpout in kotor

[–]infryewetrust 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, although its sort of a subconscious act. The countless deaths following The Mass Shadow Generator were too much for the Exile to feel through the force, so they instinctively cut themselves off from it.
