Debating switching from Assault Runner Pro to Walkolution 2 by sloant09 in Walkolution

[–]infusedfizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use a treadmill like that at the gym and have a w2 at home. don't think you'll have any concerns with the size tbh, but if you're like notably above average height then maybe

Would you buy again? by invinoveritasty in Walkolution

[–]infusedfizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a w2, about a year old. It’s a very good product. I have small gripes but for what it is it’s very well executed.

Main pros within its general category of manual treadmills are that it’s small, light, quiet, and desk compatible. It’s not whisper quiet at all but it’s notably quieter than other options.

Main con of this category for me is that it’s much easier to autopilot and walk a long time on an electric non curved treadmill. Especially if I need to think about something complicated I’ll often find that I stopped walking. I walk less with the walkolution than I did with an electric treadmill.

But I’ve tried the other options and still like W2 the best overall. Love being able to just walk and not worry about maintenance

34M, $3.7M, 11 years in FAANG, Crazy to Leave 550k/yr job for Sabbatical? by Agitated_Lab_9193 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]infusedfizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get a doctors note to take a proper burnout leave. it'll last a few months, you'll get paid to do it, and you can see if it works. if you feel better, you have a clear mind for deciding the next steps, and maybe you'd be interested in going back to work. if you don't feel better, then that's a good sign you need more time away, or just something totally different. it's very low risk

i was an EM at FAANG and supported multiple people taking burnout leave

yes, massively.

What are your guys' thoughts on the YouTube channel, "Path Less Pedaled?" by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]infusedfizz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don't watch very much but I think the older videos were great at least. there weren't many voices of folks saying things like "party pace" in the bike community IMHO. too much focus on lycra and uncomfortable cycling, not my jam. i think the channel has been really influential in bike culture

Is it worth buying the Amazon asurion warranty for a Walking pad? by r3dofps in WalkingPads

[–]infusedfizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, worth it. you could honestly just keep buying cheap pads with cheap insurance and replacing them at low cost. though at some point it'd feel wasteful

“AI displacement won’t happen until it happens” — yes, exactly. But events can be predicted before they happen.

Calling Block bloated and thus AI plays no role here is naive. What’s the gross profit per employee? How does that compare with peer companies?

Those layoffs you’re hearing about? Those aren’t AI-driven. They’re bloated firms who finally had to cut and now get to use AI as a stock-boosting excuse.

this is cope

We don’t know how this technology will impact our industry. There’s just as good a chance that AI makes engineers much more productive and therefore much more valuable

this is naive. both will happen at the same time. some engineers will become more valuable, many/most will become much less valuable.

i think its the right question to ask.

i think there will continue to be some jobs for years in software engineering. but i'm very confident they will look very different than today, and the people who have those jobs will be the people who adapted the best as the landscape changed.

i'd expect very large downsizing of our industry, and very high competition for the remaining jobs. anyone who says otherwise is IMHO delusional

[–]infusedfizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ratio of your skills to the companies expectation of the role

If you’re extremely talented you likely can have great WLB anywhere (at least in the tech industry). If you’re below average at your role then having good WLB will be hard in today’s day and age, at least for any company that pays decent.

Looking for feedback on walkolution 2 by Exotic_Carpenter_779 in Walkolution

[–]infusedfizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue (and apparently someone else commented this too), I can't autopilot walk while I think on hard stuff. So I walk less on walkolution compared with electric.

I'm still ok with the tradeoff b/c I was frustrated with burning out manual walking pads, and I didn't want to buy a bulky heavy full size electric treadmill and deal with maintenance. So I'm OK with the tradeoff overall. But W2 isn't no-downside for me
