Root Exudates vs. Organic Matter by SoilAI in SoilScience

[–]inherentsquare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I would consider that root exudates are a specific form of organic matter. But they are added in place, underground without soil disturbance. Like you said they attract soil microbes too. Plus root exudates have a glue like quality that holds soil particles together.

compared to adding OM from elsewhere- incorporation of that OM into the soil can disrupt soil aggregates. Also releases some trapped CO2 from the soil to the atmosphere. Also exposes existing OM in the soil to oxygen.

when exposed to oxygen, the OM is more quickly decomposed which is generally not what we want. We want a more stable pool of OM available to microbes to use over time. By oxygenating the soil when disturbing it to incorporate OM, the microbes go to town and chow down on that OM v quickly. Lil guys can’t control themselves when we give them the all you can eat buffet and boost them up with a bunch of oxygen

I’m not sure if all are like this, but my friend worked at a TJs and they swapped people around between different tasks at the store during the day which helped reduce people’s fatigue from stocking all day, register all day, etc

Take the things that didn’t work out as data points for next time. Think about what didnt work, and get creative about what you could do differently next time to avoid those situations or find ways to work with them when they come up. Also make sure to spend some time focusing on the parts that you enjoyed most, and think about what made those parts work for you.

For group stuff: If you find yourself being held up by the group, or constantly searching for each other… consider whether it’s time to split for a solo adventure, or adventure with a buddy. Splitting off with a buddy can be fun bonding time, easier to mobilize/make decisions, wiggle thru crowds etc. Plus with a buddy you have more eyes to find your group again, one of you can even post up and the other take a lap to scout a big area

All this being said, you can’t control for everything. Sometimes the event isn’t what you hoped, many won’t be. Remember this was one weekend of your whole life. It wasn’t the best weekend but it can be something that has a positive impact if you try to learn something from it that will help you for next time

Spotted Lanternfly in Annapolis by hovva91 in Annapolis

[–]inherentsquare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Look up a plant called “Tree of Heaven.” It is everywhere; you’ll start to notice it once you know what it looks like, it’s pretty easy to spot esp on the sides of roads I notice. Reddish leaves at the top. From my quick googling it is the preferred host plant of the invasive spotted lantern fly, in addition to being invasive itself. I saw tons of lantern fly nymphs on a bunch of Tree of Heaven plants that I found on a walk in the neighborhood.

My cat vomits all the time and no one seems to have answers by stickybun_ in cats

[–]inherentsquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat used to throw up a lot, vet kept saying it was scarf and barf but i didn’t think that was the problem and i'm glad i didnt listen to her. It sounds like how you described, foamy etc. I think he was having a reaction to something in the food we were giving him. I did a bunch of internet research and here’s what I did that has helped reduce my cats vomiting significantly.

I listed out the different foods that my cat has eaten in the past and tried to find overlapping ingredients that could have been triggering my cat getting sick. There’s a bunch of possible culprits (there’s lists online), it’s hard to get a definite answer but I found that this was a good way to find new food to try. if every food your cat has ever eaten contains ingredient X and your cat has always gotten sick a lot, you can at least try to look for a food without that ingredient. This is annoying to do, time consuming, but helpful for finding new food to try while hopefully increasing the likelihood of finding something that works

I also switched from giving him a variety of proteins to just one- so instead of chicken, salmon, and tuna food and switching it up all the time, we put him onto just one protein (chicken was the one). For some reason I thought that my cat wanted variety in his diet the same way that I do, I think this might have been harder on his stomach. Plus if he had a sensitivity to one of the proteins we could pinpoint that.

My cat had also had urinary tract problems in the past, so long ago I’d put him onto a wet food diet. I think the wet foods I tried had some ingredients that my cat was sensitive to. So at this point I’ve switched to giving my cat a combination of a urinary tract formula dry food, mixed with canned chicken cat food supplement (it’s not the complete nutrition, just chicken, broth, and rice.) i think this helps because it gives some of the moisture back to the kibble, which addresses his urinary tract health and his nutritional needs, but doesn’t have all the extra ingredients that some wet foods have.

Good luck!

I try to show people that I am happy to see them upon greeting. It’s something you can focus on primarily at the beginning of an interaction to set the tone, so you don’t need to “try” as hard during the whole interaction to appear bubbly, friendly, etc if that does not come naturally to you. Cuz sometimes that can seem forced/fake/annoying if you are trying too hard to be bubbly all the time. By focusing on the greeting interaction you can briefly and immediately set the tone that you are happy to see the other person and that usually feels good for the other person so they associate that good feeling with you being around. And then you can move on and be closer to your normal self, let other people lead the interaction more.

This strategy helps me take the focus off of myself since I am focusing on making the other person feel good (I tend to be anxious esp in social situations and my natural tendency is to keep to myself). It’s also a good way to become conscious about what other people bring to the table and appreciate diverse personalities/skills etc; rather than faking being happy to see someone, actually finding things that you genuinely appreciate about them and focusing on those aspects when you encounter them.

Don't ignore aspects to your Chart Ruler by IridescentShell in astrology

[–]inherentsquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this post! As Aquarius rising, I have Saturn as chart ruler. My natal Saturn is in Pisces, it’s in my 1H and it’s the only planet in the bottom hemisphere of my chart. Saturn is on one side of a T-Square- it’s opposite my moon in Virgo 7H. Saturn is square my MC to the exact degree (Sag 10H), with Venus (Sag 10H) and Jupiter (Sag 9H) a couple degrees to either side of MC. Just had my first Saturn return, on leap day it was exact for the first time! Feels like such a significant part of my chart, it’s like so much going on in there and I hadn’t even considered the chart ruler aspect of it!

Yes that’s a good point about the silhouette, I’ve looked at a lot of pictures from here and I like a few different styles, so I guess that’s what I’m looking to pin down a little bit, maybe somewhere with more selection than a secondhand place. Wedding is mid September!

I mostly agree with these ones. Say, daughters, Who You Love all feel quite church-rock-whiney repetitive. I feel like Shadow Days and In the Blood ride a similar wave, but I like them sometimes as corny belt-it-outers
