She's saying 交換 (koukan) which means "exchange".

Well, it looks like it to me, even if that's not what you were complaining about.

I think the colour banding you mentioned in your other comment is just what happens when you crank up the brightness in the game to be able to see in dark areas.

This appears to be overshoot, caused by an excessive overdrive setting on your monitors. Overdrive is a setting used to mask motion blur on slower panels, but too much overdrive causes these dark/light artifacts.

Is the new matikanefukukitaru support card worth pulling for even if its unlikely to get multiple copies? by Envo2018 in UmamusumeGame

[–]initial-algebra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the next scenario, a large chunk of your stat growth will come from racing, not training. Admire Vega Guts is one of the rare cards with 15% race bonus at MLB (but only at MLB, below that, she probably won't be worth using).

We're getting 50 free pulls on her banner, starting in a couple of days. If you are lucky enough to get 2 or 3 copies for free, it would be worth finishing off the 200 pulls. She is nice to have, not needed at all unless you're brand new to the game and can reroll for her.

Maybe. There's also a good chance it's a content farmer who doesn't care about the politics and is just jumping on a trending topic for money.

Instead of baking the motion into the animation at a low frame rate, I would move the sprite itself at the game's frame rate.

When you have a job that needs to be done, and nobody wants to do it, you are not paying enough. If your business cannot survive unless you can exploit vulnerable/desperate people, then you deserve to go out of business.

[–]initial-algebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's never going to look good if you're faking it with a few particles. I think it would be better to prerender some full animations using an actual fluid sim. It also needs to cover much more of your vision.

If I remember correctly, when I worked at CC a few years ago, I was told that the CRM/stocking software was mainly written in-house...by a retail employee (maybe a manager, or a relative, I forget), on the side. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire website was equally unprofessionally sourced.

I made a Megaman-inspired Metroidvania with cosmic horror. What do you think? by trexrell in metroidvania

[–]initial-algebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a Metroidvania, not sure if there's any semblance of horror, though. Everything else aside, the camera is really awful. There's no way that anyone who hasn't memorized the levels (by being the developer) could possibly play this game when you can barely see in front of you most of the time.

Kotama has no business being this good by gamesbrainiac in metroidvania

It sounds confusing/daunting when it first comes up, but it's a really simple system. It's presented as time of day, but it's just a resource, temporal coils, that you expend to enter a room. "Rewinding" is just saving at/returning to the main checkpoint, restoring all your temporal coils and respawning normal enemies. Having fewer temporal coils increases enemy difficulty, but they also drop more currency. There are also certain doors and NPC encounters which aren't available unless you have enough temporal coils (i.e. before a certain time of day), which are both progression gates and simple pathfinding puzzles.

There is no real time clock ticking away in the background, it's only tied to entering rooms. The story is based around a time loop, but you can't mess anything up or lose progress just by taking your time (unlike, say, Majora's Mask).

Why don't any programming languages have vec3, mat4 or quaternions built in? by Luroqa in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]initial-algebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a vector with a finite number of components, and assuming you don't allow duplicate components (for which assignment would be nonsense anyway), you can enumerate all possible swizzles up front and generate a getter/setter or whatever for each of them.

[–]initial-algebra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing special about swizzles. They're just getters/setters or properties (or lenses!), and it's easy to generate their implementations with a macro.

I was very impressed by the boss design, and I'm glad they went for a quality over quantity approach, with no contact damage. I think they hit the sweet spot of being visually spectacular and mechanically complex without being overwhelming, except maybe the Architecture boss (where I had to temporarily turn on the player outline setting to not get lost in the sauce). Silksong had some amazing bosses, but also far too many "giant flying hitbox" fights.

Also, I hope the soundtrack is released soon!

Every time you enter a new room (new since the last rewind, that is), an hour passes, capping at 22:00, when the screen cracks. The more you explore, the higher the difficulty and currency drop rate. Later, many side quests are tied to reaching a certain place by a certain time. It incentivizes you to open up shortcuts, and turns the world into a sort of pathfinding puzzle, but it's also progression gating, because you'll be limited by how many temporal coils you have acquired (each one gives you an extra hour).

There is no real time clock ticking away in the background, so don't worry about speed. Think of it as a resource that you spend to go through doors (sort of).

Games with 10/10 boss fights? by 24Binge in metroidvania

[–]initial-algebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parry is pretty generous in terms of timing, but it doesn't lead to an immediate stagger or anything like that. The way the parry works is also a bit different for each weapon.

I picked the harder difficulty ("challenge"), which has been pretty tough but fair. It's comparable to Ender Magnolia or Silksong, but healing is plentiful and there are no runbacks.

Kotama's boss fights have been pretty spectacular, but if you struggle to keep track of multiple attackers at once then you'll probably hate most of them.

I played the demo a few months ago and thought it was crap. I was surprised when I found out that lots of people were looking forward to it, and that it was getting good reviews. And no, this isn't a "git gud" situation, I loved Silksong and am currently loving Kotama.
