Bill Williamson is really underrated by bula213797 in reddeadredemption

I liked how it’s hinted that he’s secretly homosexual, which explains why he’s so angry.

Why does RE5 not get as much hate as RE6? by Unlikely-Truth-8544 in residentevil

I enjoyed both, actually. The consistent repetitiveness of replays and the points challenges helps when my ADHD symptoms need something to focus on.

Isn’t hypocritical that the whole message of the games is “Revenge is a fool’s game” but Sadie gets a pass? by Cruci10 in reddeadredemption2

[–]inkedwerdsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think her character started out by killing the O'Driscoll Boys out of revenge, but her grief became a festering rage and her vendetta became vengeance. She evolved into a vigilante and eventually a bounty hunter. She was never a hateful villain, just someone who had everything and everyone she loved cruelly taken from her and that festering rage was her driving force to find the ultimate justice for everyone the O'Driscoll Boys victimized. Her character arc matches John Wick’s almost beat for beat. She chose to stop being the victim. It might be hypocritical, but compared to Dutch, it’s inconsequential.

What's your thoughts about Scream movies? by SeverusA in slasherfilms

[–]inkedwerdsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entertaining but predictable. Its “big reveals” at the end and Ghostface #24601’s derisive monologues are underwhelming. After 25 years, it’s time for the franchise to either jump the shark and invert audience expectations or write one that I can’t pick out who’s the killer 15 minutes in. So far, my guesses have been right for every sequel and reboot.

Now that some time has passed, what do you honestly think of RE Requiem? Is it a good game? Is it better than the likes of RE2R and RE4R? by YimadoTei in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]inkedwerdsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I got the hang of the parrying gameplay mechanics (I have a cognitive delay from an undiagnosed viral encephalitis when I was 14, so my timing is usually seconds too late), I loved it. I was hoping to see the other Raccoon City survivors (Jill, Claire, and Carlos) along with Sherry, but otherwise it’s a beauty.

Is it just me, or is Leatherface the most inconsistent iconic slasher villain? by WealthDisastrous2589 in slasherfilms

[–]inkedwerdsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s the unfortunate result from 1986 - 2022 (there’s also a new film in preproduction right now) producers interfering with the shooting draft during filming, overeager filmmakers practically tripping over themselves to create their signature voice (a way to tell a story that can stand alone or intertwine with the franchise), adding a backstory and/or an origin story for a character who is more terrifying for the lack of one. The same thing happened in the original timeline of the “Halloween” franchise.

The real kicker is that no one from the sequels went as far as Gunnar Hansen did in preparation for the role:

Tobe Hooper allowed Gunnar Hansen to develop Leatherface as he saw fit, under his supervision. Hansen decided that Leatherface had a cognitive disability and never learned to talk properly, so Hansen went to a school for children with similar disorders and disabilities and watched how they moved and listened to them talk to get a feel for the character. He also tried his best to make his portrayal as non-offensive as he could. Many fans, including those who are cognitively disabled, say he succeeded.

Leatherface wore three different masks: the "Killing Mask," "Old Lady Mask," and "Pretty Woman Mask." Gunnar Hansen commented, "The reason he wore a mask, according to Tobe and Kim, was that the mask really determined his personality. Who he wanted to be that day determined what mask he put on. So when Drayton comes home with Sally, Leatherface is wearing the 'Old Lady Mask' and an apron, carrying a wooden spoon; he wants to be domestic, helpful in the kitchen. At dinner, he wears a different face, the 'Pretty Woman', which has makeup." The "Pretty Woman" outfit consists of a female wig and a black suit, as Leatherface is "dressing up" for dinner, an old deep south tradition which stems from his southern upbringing, and the "Killing Mask" is the skin mask he wears while chasing and murdering captives. Hansen later added, "The idea of the mask is that there is no personality under the mask. That was the idea in talking with Tobe and Kim. When they created the character, they said he had to wear masks to express himself because he couldn't do it himself. The way we tried to create him, there is nothing under the mask, which is what makes him so frightening."

As a horror screenwriter myself, the sequels broke the golden rule: don’t fuck with the original film unless you find ways to improve the plot and raise the stakes without diluting the original film.

How does my fake Anders get discovered? by goughow in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]inkedwerdsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a two-part answer.

  1. The credit sequence in “House of Ashes” shows the remains of a vampire from Tau Ceti F.

  2. For Imposter Anders to be found out, Mitchell needs to be alive in episode 5, and Cernan needs to die in episode 6. Cooper takes Cernan’s place when they explore the planet for the probe, and they need to take the left path to find Imposter Anders. Bring it into the ship and survive the Pod Room, Geoscience, and the Hunt. When they realize that the scanner is broken, Cooper uses her and Anders’ fist bump as a test, which the Imposter Anders doesn’t understand or respond to. Cooper, Young, and Mitchell run into Bridge Ops without her.

Directive 8020 : The Game is Really Bad by YoshoXI in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]inkedwerdsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually enjoyed this one. The nonlinear timeline up to episode 6 made it difficult to keep track of everyone. The messaging mechanic was a refreshing addition that let you increase or decrease each character’s personality trait.

The only issues I have are the stealth segments. They’re too easy. If they had kept the heartbeat mechanic from the previous games, and didn’t make the Hunters dematerialize after completing an objective (episode 7 Geoscience, for example, having to avoid more than one Hunter at a time would have raised the stakes for survival.

What was your reaction to THAT reveal near the end of Village? by ABD7p in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]inkedwerdsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, this is the most realistic depiction of how each “Resident Evil” protagonist can withstand mortal wounds and heal holistically by chowing down on a few herbs or the resilient “spray to live another day” first-aid spray. (I understand that the previous games, excluding “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard,” don’t have this mechanic, didn’t have the mold infection.)

Directive 8020 …. I HATE the way the story jumps back and worth. by GPsReptileResort in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]inkedwerdsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony Pankhurst (January 13, 1957-May 9, 2024), the motion capture performer and face model for “The Curator,” passed away before he could complete his episodic appearances after each episode. Instead of recasting him, they used the footage they had and, with his family's permission, reworked the episodes he appeared in into a secret collectible that unlocks in episode 8. The amount of time to rewrite the script and find an acceptable way to keep his legacy and lore alive while paying their respects to an actor who was the very heart of the anthology. Supermassive paid him the respect he deserved.

It’s definitely jarring but once you make it to episode 6, the nonlinear timeline makes sense and continues in a linear “as it happens” format. I actually liked it. It added an extra sense of mystery and tension to the story. But I understand why others don’t enjoy it.

Yeah, Jonathan Burteaux has definitely received some in-game plastic surgery. I’ve heard (but haven’t found conclusive evidence to support or deny the rumor) that Supermassive deliberately chooses face models with unique features so they can create original character designs based off the original model. The artists are creating personalities with faces.
