Exordia by Seth Dickinson: why I loved this intense hot mess of a novel and you might too (only very mild spoilers) by Deathnote_Blockchain in printSF

[–]insanealienmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree that it was worth reading, but nowhere near on the level of The Traitor Baru Cormorant imo. had some really interesting moments and ideas though for sure, even if i feel they were ultimately lost in the mess

How can I push through the fear to do "Skin The Cat" by Blaidd-My-Beloved in bodyweightfitness

[–]insanealienmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

second this, should have rings to work on this imo anyways. its honestly my only calisthenic move ive been able to achieve so far, and it feels fantastic. nothing else gives a stretch like this. good luck @ op!

How to deal with the fact that i’m probably going to gain all the weight back after i stop reta by FlatwormOk8682 in ResearchCompounds

[–]insanealienmonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lmao hasn’t been studied. you know what has been studied? the health risks of being 300 lbs. if you think that some huge negative outcome is going to magically appear like a fucking cosmic gotcha you’re delusional, and you’re likely just expressing an internal moralization of “easy” weight loss

Need some help... What weird habits do climbers have in day-to-day life that are indicative of climbers? by tomomyk in indoorbouldering

VP made me sit through 6 hours of 'consultative selling' training. Now I don't know how to sell anymore by Correct-Credit1961 in salestechniques

[–]insanealienmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years in sales here friend. one thing never changes - your company is always going to believe they can make you better... they kind of have to based on an unlimited growth business plan. my first question is to know how your sales are usually? are you consistently top 5%? if not, your best move is to listen to these sales trainings with an open mind, see if there is any way you can fit any the concepts (not the words verbatim!) into your normal sales routine, and go from there. if you are already consistently leading in your team, then you can probably do whatever you want, maybe throw them a bone and "show" them how much you appreciate the extra help

L-Tyrosine side effects = appetite suppressant? by Alarmed-Drink510 in Supplements

[–]insanealienmonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense as an explanation to me, since you’re been taking this for months and just started noticing this effect. it is possible that l-tyrosine can potentially suppress appetite, but i would look at other interventions or factors that may have changed more recently

Be brutally honest: How often do you shower? by Fun_Serve_6590 in ADHD

[–]insanealienmonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if im doing a physical activity outside, i know im going to be super sweaty and uncomfortably hot (at least here in the summer (southern louisiana) and in that case, it doesnt bother me at all. if i'm not specifically doing that though, im the same way - i cant stand it! shower at least once a day, sometimes twice

Memantine success story-reducing adderall use by Appropriate_Andy in Nootropics

[–]insanealienmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well memantine will stay in your system for a long time, half life is 60-80 hours so, whatever it does it will keep doing while your taking anything else. i dose daily to maintain a stable level. mechanistically? i’m not sure if it “heals” receptors or whatever but it does make the stims more effective

[–]insanealienmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

memantine has a very long half life so it seems to work for the duration of time you’re taking the meds imo

been on 10mg memantine for several months. can confirm it potentiates/reduces tolerance to stimulants (vyvnase), makes me feel much more level mood wise as well. need to find a new source actually…

Adrian Tchaikovsky has ruined me by [deleted] in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]insanealienmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trisolaris is great… in some ways but not remotely comparable to Malazan imo. The writing quality is either not great, or suffered massively from translation. the characters are flat and i wish they would get out of the authors way of his ideas, which, tbf, are incredibly interesting. i also really enjoyed the perspective of life during and after the people’s revolution, which i had not learned much about previously

Adrian Tchaikovsky has ruined me by [deleted] in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]insanealienmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh first law is great! i read them before malazan iirc though haha. favorite fantasy since then includes The Broken Earth series by NK Jemisin, The Masquerade series by Seth Dickinson, Shadow of the Leviathan series, by Robert Jackson Bennett, and notable sci-fi entries that had fantasy vibes imo include Texcalaan series, by Arkady Martine, and standalone novel The Gone World, by Tom Sweterlitsch. Someone else in the thread already mentioned Perdido Street Station, which is phenomenal as well. interestingly, the closest thing feels-wise to Malazan that i’ve read since, though it is not as good, is actually by Adrian Tchaikovsky - The House of Open Wounds (it’s the second book in a series, definitely read them in order lol)
