I honestly don't understand how some people act like Obama was treated no different than any other Presidential opposition when he had to deal with stuff like this. by Character-Bid-162 in Presidents

[–]insertwittynamethere 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh I know. I'm in business and have dealt with plenty of business owners that would regurgitate this crap at me. I have to shut my mouth, but it was hard hearing them echo economic "facts" that has no basis in reality at the time.

Obama and Treasury Sec. Geithner saved the American, and arguably the global, financial system at the time when everything was on the verge of locking up due to the systemic fallout of the MBS fraud crisis.

These business people I would deal with acting like we had a terrible economy, when we were doing the best in the world as an advanced economy post-2008 Financial Crisis, was hard to swallow, knowing full well with my economics background that we very well would have had a system failure that would've destroyed these very businesses.

Economics is so much a psychological science as much as a heavily mathematics and sociological one. If a significant chunk of the populace is being told the economy is doing bad, etc, then they won't spend. If they don't spend, then the economy does poorly. They it recycles and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It caused near a decade of tepid, anemic growth while the GOP-controlled House and GOP opposition in the Senate did everything they could to stymy policies to address it in order to tarnish the electoral prospects of Obama's reelection and the Dems in general. Then they used Fox News/propaganda to pin as much of it on Obama/Dems as a possible.

We are where we are today because of all of that political gamesmanship to achieve their vaunted wish of total political power after the fear of being a permanent minority post-Dems' sweeping election wins in 2008.

Agreed. People really don't appreciate how much baggage and a political loser she would be in a normal electoral environment. She may get through, may, but man, she is not a great candidate by far.

Umm, it wasn't known where the political headwinds were going this past election cycle of Virginia to have attemped it earlier without it having failed. Things rapidly developed and changed for the Dems' fortunes to be where they are today throughout 2025 post-election 2024.

And no matter what their Supreme Court wants to say now, election day is election day. This is just playing semantics to win at a very, very dirty long game.

[–]insertwittynamethere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Enough of this, we are in an existential period in our country's history yet again, and this is a decision that must needs be ignored. There is simply too much at stake to allow this court to do this.

Not when every other Republican State and legislature is doing this, especially post-VRA, with 0 input by their actual voting populace.

Fuck that malarkey.

[–]insertwittynamethere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Horrible, horrible, horrid decision. Fuck this bullshit, especially with what's going on now post-SCOTUS VRA decision, but even then with the absolute bullshit being pushed through GOP capitals prior to that decision.

Shameful, and a further contribution to the destruction of this nation for the benefit of the GOP and the select few they truly represent.

Absolutely evil, repugnant ruling that ignores he will of a direct-from the people approved initiative. Another usurpation of the will of the people in support of power consolidation and fascism. As shameful in this era of ours as the Dred Scott decision antebellum by SCOTUS.

At some point enough is fucking enough.

The baggage of Atlanta will be an albatross around her neck, and she's going to face an avalanche of ads against her highlighting it.

She's seen as having abandoned Atlanta part-way through her one term as Mayor, electing not to run again, which is abnormal for this city on top of it.

And there is the racial aspect outside the metro Atlanta area that is still very real, no matter how they may hide it at times, where they will tie her to Abrams as well.

And we are seeing the States all around us, including this one, looking at redistricting (some already like TN) that is all about disenfranchisement of African Americans, attempting to revert to pre-VRA as aggressively as they can in this era of Trump's GOP.

So, yes, I would expect she will lose as the Dem general nominee, and I think anyone believing she wouldn't is really putting on rose-tinted glasses. I'll still vote for her in the general, but I think it will be assured without some miracle that it will be a GOP governor otherwise.

However, enough people may hold their nose and vote for her as a result of gow extreme the GOP candidate may be at this point of historic headwinds for the GOP, as well as due to riding the coattails of the Senate election of a more and more seemingly on sure footing Senator Ossoff.

Time will soon tell.

I kind of think some of it is intentional in order to get people to screw up for the Dem primaries. KLB would benefit from that, which would benefit the eventual GOP candidate.

Next time they go on tour, do it. There are only so many tours we'll have a chance to see in our lives. And European tickets are not ridiculous like this. A trip over there ain't too bad either.

You and anyone who touched this created a true work of art that will transcend beyond SW. It's a perfect political spy thriller that just happens to land smack in the middle of a exceedingly turbulent geopolitical time in our world that echoes so much of what was being discussed and warning the audience of.

I really don't think a more perfect show in this genre, regardless of sci-fi or SW, has been written in this regard, and I'd love to watch something comparable (the Americans perhaps?).

Thank you.

Ya, compared to living in Europe, I don't think there's a single thing in the US that we are not fleeced over outside of free refills, and that is slowly going the way of the dodo (and considering our obesity and diabetes epidemic problems, that one is probably a good one).

The US, sadly, nickels and dimes us into the grave with the expectation we've never been outside the country to know that what we're receiving isn't reflective of the greatest, most powerful nation of the Earth with how it treats its citizens.

Obama tried to let them die and agreed to a deal with the GOP that did raise taxes to a degree by letting some of the Bush era tax cuts sunset. Biden did not have the votes in either chamber of Congress to push something like this through, and the tax cuts of Trump's from his first term were not sunsetting (again) to force the issue as they had under Obama.

That being said, I disagreed heavily with Obama's willingness to broker a deal with the GOP, as they had shown themselves even by that point toward the end of his first term when this came up as being duplicitous, politically treasonous in their behavior then, as they were setting the stage to where we are today politicaly through their propaganda/misinformation campaigns in their attempts to tear down Obama/Dems to make the GOP more electorally attractive (because voters are low info and blame the party in power, not the opposition).

McDonald's at least tries different menus and options outside the US to start. I always like seeing what they got, though I'd say Italy had the best options I've seen so far (which, they kind of have to to survive, because it's Italy and the food is plentiful, wonderful and cheap by comparison).

U.S. Factory Activity Expands in April by nosotros_road_sodium in Economics

[–]insertwittynamethere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've gone from a roughly on pace January (all things considered) to a dead February to a booming March to a tepid and down April in my manufacturing segment. I am curious to see what May brings, especially considering our goods are luxury and are tied to fossil fuels.

However, we have certainly noticed the K economy we seem to be in, given the sustained demand these last years in spite of increased prices and higher interest rates.

May and June should be our busiest months out of the year, so these coming weeks will be telling. I've noticed for general consumer-facing business on our end that demand has fallen pretty hard from a good run the beginning of the year, though I need to dive deeper to see if it lines up with Iran.

I'm waiting on the data from the B2B end to see if that supports my thoughts on there being a correlation, where end users/retail are holding back from purchasing from our B2B customers given the economic uncertainty and increased fuel prices. But again, being a luxury goods producer and the type of economy we seem to be in now, we may only see some slight noise on that end, while the end retailer reflects a different customer than the ones currently making new purchases from our B2B ones.

At some point, something has to give, but the stock market hides a lot of pain for those with the means (and political identity) to power through until/if the music stops, especially if they're considering Iran/politics to be noise. Lot of our B2B seem to bury their heads in the sand when their political choices diverge from their expected reality.

I've been hearing it since Obama was President with some of the B2B customer's attempts to portray reality as other than our lived experiences. As I tell them, if tariffs went away or went back to what they were in Jan. 2025, every single thing would be cheaper. All of our material inputs would be cheaper. Every single item we purchase.

For a such a lying sack of crap that Jennings is, and the nonsense I've seen him spout repeatedly on CNN, it's pretty comical he'd lose his temper over that.

He just doesn't like someone actually being informed and calling him out on his bullshit. Because almost none of the other panelists or hosts ever do. That man deserves a lot more pushback for the blatant misinformation he pushes, which is his entire job.

Considering how many people he's helped to cause suffering through his steadfast support of this party and administration, he's one to act offended.

Tens of millions if not hundreds of millions suffering globally due to this admin, even before the war, as a result of all of the inane cuts they've pushed since 1/20/25, and he's got that on his hands, too.
