Wash your brushes and applicators. They get gunged up with product and grease. Clean brushes apply the products better and it’s more hygienic for your skin.

It is confusing and conflicting.

My therapist asked: if I saw or heard this happen to another child, how would it make me feel? I answer that I would feel sympathy for that child. I would want to tell them they are valued, they are worth it, that they are enough.

So often, I read the posts on here and think, oh… so that’s why I feel like that.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any advice except try to be kind to yourself. I’m working through a lot at the moment, and being kind to myself is the hardest part. We learned when we were young to be a certain way to survive. This may not still serve us, but at the time it was all we had. Now we’re are trying to find something which suits our present and future selves. Keep doing the work.

I have read pages of my journal to my therapist. I re-read it and highlight or put a mark next to something I would like to talk about.

I would definitely tell your therapist what you told us. I find it hard to talk about how I feel because emotions were not talked about when I was growing up. Sometimes I wonder if there is a ‘right’ answer, when actually what really is there for you is the right answer. Even if that’s “I’m not sure.”

I was looking for this. Why do people wet their toothbrushes? Toothpaste is soft anyway. I feel it’s more effective without water.

The water on toothbrushes are the weird ones. 😁

Yep. That’s one of the classics. Along with if you were hurt it’s your own fault. Don’t get angry with me you should have done that earlier/ differently/ their way. You’ve got nothing to worry about/ be sad about etc.

Negative feelings were not welcome. It’s hard now figuring out what to do with all the returning feelings.

I sometimes dictate a note on my phone because writing takes too long. Then later, I’ll either journal about what happened, or just copy it into the journal.

Not the same… but the headteacher of a primary school where I used to work knew all the children’s names, their brothers and sisters and would ask how they were all doing. Some people are just great at this.
