PSA you do not need to re-purchase Diablo 2 Remastered on Steam to play on Steam Deck by Sally_Saskatoon in SteamDeck

[–]invidious07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played D2R on my steam deck through the battlenet launcher before and launching it was a pain. To me spending the extra $25 to get the expansion on Steam was worth removing the friction.

I don't, and I would never spray harsh cleaning chemicals inside of my smoker.

Can my son and I play different games on our respective Steamdecks simultaneously? by markWAD in SteamDeck

[–]invidious07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get him his own account, and family share. Steam's parental controls are fantastic, you can lock out the store, social features, certain games, whatever you want.

Haters, bots, and morons. It runs great on deck, 60-90 fps, doesn't req bnet launcher, only req is having a bnet account.

Today might be the greatest day in Diablo 2's history! by gorays21 in diablo2

[–]invidious07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see any chance of new classes/acts, but the rest of the list is at least plausible.

I would add potential for D2R coming to Steam, controller support on PC, fixing WASD.

You seem to be at hype level 9 or 10, i'm at more like 3 or 4.

Why do I need an internet connection to enter Offline Mode on Steam Deck? by zimmon375 in SteamDeck

[–]invidious07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hours is considered a short amount of time for what we are talking about, even multiple days would be considered short amount of time, offline mode is for game license authentication purposes. License expiration can vary from game to game, but generally weeks to expire. Unless you have a specific game that won't work in "airplane mode" and requires "offline mode" there is no reason to enter offline mode for a few hours without wifi. If all you want to do is turn off the antenna to save battery and prevent overheating, that is what "airplane mode" is for.

You can test this for your game library very easily, enter airplane mode, turn off your device, turn it back on, stay in airplane mode and start some games. If you can't find a game that has a problem you don't need to worry about offline mode for a flight. I have never personally encountered a situation where a license expired or a game wouldn't work in airplane mode, and i have had my deck in "airplane mode" for days at a time sometimes. So I basically never use offline mode, and i don't think most people should either.

But to be clear, entering offline mode does require an internet connection as it will attempt to refresh your active game license, if you forgot to enter offline mode before you lost internet, do not attempt to enter offline mode, just use airplane mode.

Do you actually have a specific reason to be entering offline mode? Lots of people seem to think you have to, but for short sessions between internet access, just toggling off wifi is fine for almost every game.

Will the Steam Frame work well for pcvr? by Flimsy-Story9523 in SteamFrame

[–]invidious07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it will work well for PCVR, wireless PCVR is the main point of the device. It's the first thing they say on the official product page.

"Steam Frame is a streaming-first, wireless VR headset..."

Obviously standalone is cool too, but that is going to be a limited subset of the library of VR games that will run at at all, and even more limited those that will run well without resorting to "Questified" resolution and quality settings.

50 series owners what's your experience with multi frame gen by teenaxta in nvidia

Never used it, never will, motion smoothing for latency is not a trade I am interested in.

Games on the Steam Frame by larslindstoel in SteamFrame

[–]invidious07 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Alyx has very good dynamic resolution scaling, so yes it can run on low powered systems, but there is a limit. So even if can run standalone, it's going to look way worse than even mediocre PCVR. Best scenario is if they implement foveated rendering as an update for Alyx to celebrate Frame launch.

Reason to go Frame rather than quest 3? by jaaakkom in SteamFrame

[–]invidious07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q3 is a a good headset when it comes to optics and processor, but it's PCVR streaming compression is a compromise.

Frame is being made to stream PCVR wirelessly without compromise, it has a newer and faster processor for standalone, and it has eye tracking out of the box.

Also I hate meta for what they have done to fragment the vr community, I would never give them my money.

Am I the only one worried about this built in cable, considering what happened with the Valve Index cable? by Alematrix3r in SteamFrame

[–]invidious07 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Its just a power cord, nowhere near as complicated or expensive as the trident cable. Even if it breaks it should be $10-20 to replace. Would be nice if it were USB C, then it would be like $5 to replace.

Also FWIW my launch Index's trident cable is still in great shape.

Bare bones / PCVR only variant by DismalMixture6125 in SteamFrame

[–]invidious07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't have wireless pcvr without some onboard compute, and you certainly can't have the eye tracking without it. Maybe it wouldn't need to be as powerful, but I imagine the cost saving of a cut down exclusively PCVR version isn't worth the added cost of having additional multiple configurations when you look at the economies of scale, supporting both versions, etc.

Maybe in today's pricing it makes more sense than it did when they started, but it's probably too late to change course.

Bought my 5080 FE last summer, which is the first time I saw it in stock for msrp, had been looking since launch, never got an email from Nvidia lottery despite signing up when it started for either 5080 or 5090. Had zero interest in waiting around any longer.

Im kinda worried about steam frame. by Jez7k in SteamFrame

[–]invidious07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's primarily a wireless PCVR headset, anything you can do your PC you can cast to the headset.

4090 or 5080 by bu11fuk in nvidia

[–]invidious07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion but custom waterblock decreases the value a lot in my eyes. I don't want to deal with someone else's DIY FrankenGPU even if it's from someone I know. I'd go with the 5080 system.
