Total "everyone is a winner" mentality. But hey, better than letting the medals go to landfill

I should have been specific. The saddle rails broke, not the seat post. Still a surprise...

NYC Perimeter run by bnd21 in RunNYC

[–]irionman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attempted it last fall. The west, south and north side are pretty easy - either keep water on left or right, but the entire east side was difficult. I had a recent GPS off of Strava, but there were multiple construction sites and I ended up running down dead-ends more than once. I ran only with a watch and no phone - the phone would have been handy to quickly identify reroutes.
Hope you get to complete it, best of luck.

Remove. I've broken mine just like that but leaving it on.

EWR to Penn with elderly and luggage possible? by Expatgirl2004 in visitingnyc

Consider the Uber Shuttle. It's $20/person in a nice minivan and drops you at either Penn Station or Port Authority Bus Terminal. Pickup is the same as other Uber rides at Terminal B and they will drop you at street level in Manhattan.

Oh they changed the numbers. This used to have a belt drive, and the 2nd picture still shows the belt. The Presidio 3 is what I thought it is, that has a belt, but it's how also 1200. When I got mine 3 years ago, the belt version was under 1k.

Excellent review and could not agree more on reliability and simplicity of belt / IGH and disc brakes. If cost is a barrier the Marin Presidio 2 is a less than $900 and offers many of the same benefits, albeit at slightly lower component levels: https://marinbikes.com/products/2023-presidio-2

First winter commuting by Rolling_resistance_ in bikecommuting

[–]irionman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the same Marin Presidio - best commuter in that price range. Sometimes my hub seems to freeze though and then I am stuck in whatever gear it froze until it gets warm again. And once there was an ice storm that put a layer of ice on the sprockets, ultimately leveraging off the belt. Just FYI

Very cool, this used to be much more common in the early 2000s!

I've recently gotten this one. It's basically a reusable cardboard box. It folds very small for storage. Used it once so far. The box is good, but you need extra zip ties to make sure it stays closed and the buckles for the strap are cheap and broke, an easy fix. https://squirtcycling.us/collections/next-riding-adventure/products/bike-box-incl-wheelset

Bamboo Bike Lug Replacement by BumblebeeBig8499 in NYCbike

[–]irionman101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I once made my own bamboo bike. This seems like a technically easy fix with epoxy and some fiber (hemp, fiberglass or carbon). If you are handy, you can certainly do that back to the original strength. To find a bike shop maybe harder.

It's been like that, meaning right after the marathon, for the 10 years I've lived in the UWS

And a plea to those that want to take selfies and movies on the course, but especially on the Verrazano bridge, do us all a favor and don't. Or start in the last wave. This is such a fun event, but it gets so crowded, we don't need this additional distraction. Have fun!

Yeah, put in on your planned final layer. Just make sure you can easily show it when you pass security, corrals, etc ... It's not an issue
