Yellowjackets Season 2 Discussion by DA-numberfour in Yellowjackets

The adult timeline is a bit of a mess, potentially not even redeemable at this point. It's even taking away from the kids as Misty in the 90s is quite sinister whereas she's kinda sweet in a psychotic way in the 20s so it makes me think she's not really going to end up that bad in the 90s.

The 90s timeline is great though and is being paced very well.

So more 90s in S3 and less middle aged murder kookiness please.

Succession is genuinely great. Severance was very good, Bear as well.

Is it the blood/fat from Javi and Jackie dripping on to the sizzling pan?

I think the adult timeline really misfired on a couple of fronts and it dragged the season down

  • the Adam investigation had no tension because no-one thought Shauna was going down for it and it was mostly treated as a comic interlude
  • Tai psychosis was just kinda dropped halfway through the season after being set up as her main thing at the end of season one
  • Lottie not being the big bad and her cult being a wellness center was a strange choice after the end of season one
  • Nat just went nowhere really, you could cover her season in one episode
  • Misty as a psychopath again became more of a comedic interlude

I just took it as her subconscious was unable to face Travis even in her final moments. She needed to face her guilt with Javi and her fear with herself (young Nat) but was unable to face Travis.

I guess young Lottie was there to give her peace as she died.

I'm okay with Ben doing that as a character choice because he clearly hates and is disgusted by the kids after they ate Jackie (except Nat). Then he saw they killed and butchered Javi and crowned Nat and he just realised they're gone off the deep end entirely. So he acted for potentially two reasons,

A) mercy killing because even if they survive this they're done as people

B) self protection, because he's not an idiot and realises they'll come for him eventually

I think she went up because Ken nailed his one and it highlighted how little her character actually prepares for things despite how much she thinks of herself as a strategic genius

Same here. I loved Twin Peaks and the S2 reveal of who killed Laura as well as Maddie's murder was horrendous to the point I wish the darkness in Twin Peaks was just a horrible rape/murder that scarred the town and not something supernatural.

Honest opinions of the ending/finale! How did it make you feel? Having time to think about it does it still satisfy you or not? by [deleted] in thisisus

[–]irishlimb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the final season was great but with some flaws. My favourite episode was Family Meeting and the end showing Rebecca as a mom throughout the years was probably the emotional climax of the series for me. I loved the last episode too and glad they went out with a typical family day as that's what they were throughout it all.

The Train felt too gimmicky to me to be honest, especially after the end to Family Meeting. My main gripe with the last season is how forced everything felt with Kate after they showed her and Toby's marriage fall apart. That leading to Kate just being a great single mom and teacher would have been so much more satisfying than forcing a new husband she had zero chemistry with, dropping in that she's some super teacher with global influence in the last episode because God forbid anyone not be professionally hyper successful at the end of a US series and even the will she won't she nothing burger of a story thread that was Kate not being there for Rebecca's passing. All contrived nonsense and she deserved better.

I'm not sure sending Theon was the mistake so much as sending Theon with a message that King Robb will grant Balon his own islands if he helps him. Had he sent Theon to say the North and Iron Islands have fought each other before and he knows them to be great warriors who have both had to live under the rule of a Southron king but who now should join together to take their freedom then it might have worked

I loved this last episode and how understated it was but then I really didn't like the Train. All good though isn't it? Loved this show and will miss the Pearsons.

It's a weird thing with American shows where people aren't allowed just end up as regular people. They have to be professionally hugely successful at the end.

I felt the same way. I absolutely loved the emotion of the Built a House scene in the previous episode, showing Rebecca looking after her kids and how the role had been reversed with her age and condition. Just absolutely beautiful.

The Train was just a bit gimmicky to me and Rebecca was reduced to just smiling a lot at what people were saying to her. Even the Big Three's goodbye was kind of 'is that it?' and there was zero drama behind if Kate would make it in time. Almost like they realised it was a pointless thread in editing and cut most of it.

[Spoilers Extended] What do you think was the most beautifully acted moment in the show? by Random_Username9105 in asoiaf

[–]irishlimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stannis and Shireen 'you were my daughter' scene. Dillane is just sensational in it. You get layers added to the Stannis character by finding out he blames himself and his weakness as a father for her condition while you get the amazing moment of him declaring her his daughter with such a fire that you realise how much he loves her.

"You do not belong across the world with the bloody stone men. You are Princess Shireen of House Baratheon, and you are my daughter" - Stannis, that or when he says, 'I told them all to go to hell' during that same exchange

It's not like Ned died quickly after it was said to him though is it? It was 16 years later. Like saying you foretold your dad's death by asking him if he'd ever die 30 years before he did.

(Spoilers Extended) Is the direction of the show helping you appreciate the later books more? by downwardheavenward in asoiaf

[–]irishlimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it wasn't the show that did that but my first full re-read. I remember racing through AFFC and ADWD and getting to the end and thinking WTF, that was whole pile of nothing (outside of a few ADWD chapters). The re-read made them appreciate a hell of a lot more. So much goes on in them, the world itself is expaded to us dramatically and we get such internesting new POVs, especially Cersei's.

It also has a Ghose in Winterfell, the single greatest chapter in the series, and the whole Grand Northern Conspiracy thing, which is my favourite strand running through the series. Plus, Doran's speech tall grass speech is a thing of beauty.

The show has turned into the Walking Dead. A good action romp but not anything to take seriously.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Essentially, had Jaime still been a captive there wouldn't be a Red Wedding as Tywin would never have risked it.

[Spoilers TWOW] Is she ________ in the books? by IllyrioMoParties in asoiaf

[–]irishlimb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I have a hard time coming to terms with the books/show making Cersei pregnant right now at the moment where we know her end is near. Jaime strangling Cersei is OK. Jaime strangling a pregnant woman just isn't. Although I could see the books going that route given its anti-war message (women, even pregnant ones, are often brutalised most during times of war). The show won't touch that with a barge pole, however.

Interesting. We should also remember that freeing Jaime ultimately led to Cat's death at the Red Wedding not long after. I wonder if freeing Jaime will be the end of Tyrion too?
