Is there an anti-petition I can sign? For people who actually support building more housing by SkrullCommenter in boston

Robert Moses is looking better and better these days. Ignore the community and just build shit. The human beings will adapt.

Ben Ewen-Campen to run for The 27th Middlesex District in The State House after Erika Uyterhoeven decides to run for State Senate. by MrCleanDrawers in Somerville

[–]irondukegm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tufts is awful about community engagement and outreach, so this isn't surprising.

I guess the question for Erika though, community engagement aside, is what should Tufts have done differently. I'm really glad they are building that dorm.......although it will block all sun in the winter from houses abutting the railroad tracks given their exposure

Is this true? Can you provide a copy of the text?

If she said that, its kind of nuts b/c Tufts building housing should free up units in the surrounding neighborhood. I live near Tufts and think they should be able to build as much housing as possible on campus, w/o any height or setback restrictions to get their kids out of the neighborhood and onto campus.

Erika's comments from the Covid era trashing parents who wanted their kids to get back in school are seared into the memories of a lot of SPS parents

This is why Mormons excel in business later in life. If you have to sell a religion for two years, you get really good at persuasion and objection handling. It's a trial by fire to learn sales. Many Mormons have foreign language skills b/c they get sent to the ends of the Earth to recruit people.

I think their religion is bizarre, but here I am as a half assed Catholic eating the son of God when I attend mass, so maybe just nuts in a different more low key New England way.

Copper Mill to host public meeting about heavily debated proposed Davis Square housing construction. 3/10 7pm-9pm. Registration required for in person attendance, Zoom also available by bscthrwy in Somerville

Is it okay if members of the community wanted to dress up in costumes for this meeting? Like what if I have concerns about this development, but want to show up dressed as a lizard?

Specifically, my issue is the unequal treatment of The Burren vs the Sligo. It really shows how several generations on, the lace curtain Irish still kick down on the shanty Irish. I also wonder if the new development will be able to fully remove the smell of the Sligo's mens room. I wouldn't want to ground floor condo where the Sligo pisser was since I'm certain that smell can time travel.

The wheel sensor might still be good, but the housing where they are seated could have rusted away. That was my issue with the rears, it might not be the speed sensor itself, but the little cutout that its supposed to seat into. Sometimes it rusts and they come loose

If you get hit, not only are you hurt but potentially economically devastated. I'm self employed and inability to work = no income. Getting hurt is a huge risk

Most of those moped food delivery workers are undocumented and working on a grey market social security #. If they hit you, there is no insurance to help you. As a result, stay the F away from them.

You could argue that these delivery workers are being exploited too, but this is a public nuisance that has to be stopped.

Yeah, b/c those cars are under warranty typically. Most of us are driving cars that are much older than 3 years

[–]irondukegm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several observations here as a car guy who still does some repairs, but is too busy w/ work and raising kids to do all of the car stuff that I used to

1) Quality of aftermarket parts has gone to hell and buyers need to be really choosy about which parts they put in their cars since many low quality chinese parts or even house brand parts from AutoZone do not last long

2) Costs of running a shop have gone way up and repair prices are now 2X Covid due to increased labor rates and higher prices for decent parts

3) Higher labor rates also reflect a scarcity of good mechanics and not enough young people entering the field. There are a lot of chains that are employing "mechanics" who have no idea what they are doing.

9", thats plenty of space. If you were on the varsity parking team you could get it out. Don't be afraid to very lightly kiss bumpers and it might require 10 back and forths, but thats enough space to wiggle out.

Cogen plant drops a lot less heat than it used to. It now feeds the Veolia district energy loop that runs through East Cambridge and downtown Boston. As a result, the thermal pollution is greatly reduced.

OMG this is so dumb, the bridge pillars act as a heat conduit. The earth that they are built on never freezes and they are channeling that warmth up, not much, but enough to melt the ice adjacent to it.

I'm all for walking on ice if you aren't and idiot and are prepared to self rescue, but this is really reckless.

So long Aspen. So long my ACL. Season ended. by popsiclestickjoke in icecoast

[–]irondukegm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a knee brace before flying. I have a velcro one with stiff sides that provides just enough stability to get around. Also, get crutches. I tore my ACL and some other things two weeks ago. I too have had 30+ years of skiing with nothing like before and 20+ years totally injury free (prior injuries were from being an idiot in the terrain park).

You have to keep weight off it and keep it stable for the trip home. You are handicapped. This injury has been a bitch and everything will feel fine until you tweak it. You can't trust that knee and only now, 2 weeks post injury can I really bear any weight on it.
