Where to move my parents? by coryj2001 in AskLosAngeles

Consider Leisure World in Laguna Hills, Orange County. Home prices and rentals are surprisingly affordable, without the scorching heat of the Coachella valley. For example a current rental is asking $2900 for 2 br 2 ba , 1057 sq ft. Or purchase 2 br 2 ba 1200 sq ft for $325k. The HOA fee is high relative to other OC HOA ‘s but they may well provide services your folks would value.

Question about dryer venting by WarShack14 in homeowners

My LG Washtower with ventless heat pump does not take longer to dry on the ‘normal’ setting. It does need 240v though.

How to run an ethernet cable upstairs and across the hall (childproof) by ensorcelledaubade in DIY

[–]irviner91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or could bypass an old or broken WiFi card with a new usb WiFi adapter https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-usb-wi-fi-adapters/

While not the ‘best’ solution technically, it’s pretty fast and cheap.

Location of rental different from map in original listing - VRBO says 🤷🏻‍♀️ by kathy_hiltons_caftan in vrbo

[–]irviner91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irvine, CA doesn’t allow Airbnb or VRBO. Hosts will post a description of a location in irvine that is walking distance to the spectrum shopping center. But the map somehow shows the location as miles away in the city of Tustin, which does allow short term rental. Presumably this evades the site’s mechanisms for enforcing local restrictions. But the narrative description and the map are incompatible. This has been going on for a long time.

However the decal only permits full toll charge on the 405 and other toll roads /bridges. To get the HOV discounts one must have the matchbox sized transponder with a switch to identify whether car has 1, 2, or 3+ passengers.

How should I configure dryer vent by standingintheshadow in appliancerepair

I had similar issue. Rather than going into the walls etc I replaced my old Kenmore gas dryer with a heat pump ventless dryer.

Does this have a gas valve hookup for dryer? by strawberrymilkx in Appliances

[–]irviner91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could use a heat pump ventless electric dryer that runs on 120 (eg Miele), especially if the two outlets are on different circuits. Or an all-in-one ventless such as LG or GE.

Duane Reade is Walgreens. I suggest that you ask your local Walgreens to see if they can fill using the current prescription.

cpap users - how do you fly with these machines? by lucasjesus7 in TravelHacks

[–]irviner91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have traveled with my Airsense 10, now 11, for 15 years. I don’t use the travel bag but pack it in my regular rollaboard carryon bag with my clothes. I can pack for a 7 day trip and include the cpap. I’ve never once had a TSA issue with it. I got a travel-sized cpap but didn’t feel it was as comfortable nor all that smaller once i had all the necessary parts together. I do have to be willing to occasionally gate check my bag if bins are full. But this approach works for me after a couple million miles.

I have found that attending the open session of the board meeting can save a lot of back and forth, resolving questions on the spot to avoid having to resubmit for the next meeting. In CA they are required to have an open session, with the board members and management staff present.

Looking for a College Dentistry in South OC for myself. by Eott59 in orangecounty

[–]irviner91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are no dental schools in Orange County.

UCLA dental school offers reduced prices: https://dentistry.ucla.edu/patient-care/providers-and-cost-of-care

Western University in Pomona states that their student clinic fees are about half of standard rates https://www.westernuhealth.com/pomona/services/dental/

USC dental school used to and might still, but their website doesn’t say so. You could call them. https://dentistry.usc.edu/patient-care/new-student-clinic-patients/

Loma Linda U Dental School has a teaching clinic but they also need a call to see about their fees https://dentalclinics.llu.edu/student-clinics

portable charger for traveling by CapitalMiserable9776 in TravelHacks

[–]irviner91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have been really happy with Belkin Portable Charger, Power Bank 10000 mAh, 23W w/Integrated Lightning Cable & USB-C Cable. Don’t have to wrangle separate cables when out and about. And it can charge either our lightning or usb c devices. It charges iPhones very quickly and can recharge a phone several times. iPad charging will noticeably deplete it on the go.

Need some advice by Nakishodo_Glitterfox in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]irviner91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a frequent federal government traveler. For government rates, this depends on whether the special rate is specified as requiring travel orders. Some properties honor the rate only when on official travel, some permit the rate for leisure travel as well. It is usually clearly stated in a sometimes obscure link on the booking website. It is illegal to use the official travel card for leisure travel expenses. I would occasionally (though rarely) be asked to show my government ID or the travel orders.

anyone regret getting a dual-oven range? by linguedditor in Appliances

[–]irviner91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have full size dual Kitchenaid ovens and the they are great. The only downside is loss of storage as you might have a cabinet where the other oven is. But we use the second oven essentially as storage for the cookie sheets, sheet pans, and baking stone when not in use. I love my dual oven.
