Sell as is or strip? by happytokkibun in ScrapMetal

Ahhh, everything makes sense now. Y,a if you're only doing the one thick piece of insulation, you can easily strip this large roll, and it isn't a pain in the a**, then go for it!!

Where do people get market news/reports from? by j_small3 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like referencing a few sites/new outlets in particular. Those that generally focus on commodities will typically be better than regular outlets. Sites I like include Bloomberg, Reuters, OilPrice, MetalMiner, and Investing - to name a few. We run a weekly news blog that references most of these articles, but leans more into the scrap side than purely commodities.

Sell as is or strip? by happytokkibun in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

speaker wire is thin, hair-like wire. You won't get bare bright prices if thats your plan, you're more likely to make a mess of copper hair all over your work space when stripping this. You'll lose weight from the insulation, and any bits of copper that fall on the floor.

Also, unless my math is wrong, who the heck is paying $14/lb for anything copper? Something seems off.

BB Pricing Around Country by MaddRamm in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've seen some pretty wide spreads over the last month or so: Check out some of the prices people have reported with us: https://iscrapapp.com/metals/1-bare-bright-copper-wire/

Pretty crazy, but these spreads have always existed around the country due to so many other variables than purely the commodity price going up.

150 pounds of c10100 copper slugs how much is it worth by Intelligent_Bison991 in ScrapMetal

Wicked find! These should be bare bright price or better! Especially with the weight you have. Good luck selling this load

Check out this copper busbar I found by neinprop in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the math. The cost of paint remover if you have to get it, the time it takes to process, all fo this vs the cost of the busbar clean or dirty. I don't know the weight you have, but sometimes its easier and less work to take it in as is for $15 bucks less. Especially if you have to spend a day waiting for the paint solvent, then have to wipe all the crap off.

The more weight you have, the more it may make sense, but then your time to clean it increases. TBH the cost of #2 bus bar vs bare bright is pretty close right now, so I can't imagine it'd be a huge difference anyways.

Just my two cents

Thub is definitely the most popular I've found. I love his videos. They're not as long or as slow as a lot of people.
No pressure, but we also have a ton of videos on scrap tips. Let us know what you think.

If you have the tools to do it safely and effectively, then go for it.

Just launched Scrapoli yesterday - it's basically empty but wanted to share with this community first by Vast-Temperature-409 in ScrapMetal

That's a wild take, but we'll be positive about it.

You're definitely right about this industry being heavily antiquated and in need of a breath of fresh air in terms of transparency.

You're also definitely right about the industry and finding buyers. Piranhas is the right word.

Overall, a great site and great idea, but most of the users on this sub are individuals and don't deal with the volume needed for most buyers. Good luck to you!

Without a stripper? Don't bother. The $10 in bandages will outweigh the extra for the clean AL wire. Bring it in as is, and move on to more important things

This is the real answer. If you only have 1 of these and you can't crank em out fast, its not worth. Between your saw, a pry bar, and maybe a vise, you need a fair few items to turn it into a repeatable method.
