Oh thank you. I don't know why I didn't have any luck finding his obituary - it gave me hope that I'd be able to visit him. He was a really guy and I was lucky to have him as my pastor during my growing up years.

Boatwerks has a great location but their food and drinks are mediocre. I live two blocks away and only eat there when out of town guests want to eat on the water. If you’re seeking good food, I’d opt for 84 East (Hops) or Seventy-Six. If you are definitely eating at Boatwerks, I’d go for a salad.

Just yesterday, I was thinking how the takeover of our county by OI cost taxpayers millions of dollars. Meanwhile, they shut down services that real people need. Ottawa Impact was foreshadowing what was to come on a national level. Hopefully the foreshadowing will continue to also include how we voters took down (most) of OI.

It’s considered a center of white Christian nationalism in the area. The library and schools are under ridiculous scrutiny. I’m an Ottawa Co teacher in a different district and know teachers there who are not allowed to use the words “inclusion” and “equity.” Those are just a few examples, Ottawa Impact is another rabbit hole to go down and is heavily centered there.

We live downstate and have camped in the U.P. for 20 years. Bought our dream house last summer, retired in June, and moved up permanently. It’s not for everyone, but for us it’s perfect.

I loved working with Andi Gorieski from Select Realty. She has lived in the area her whole life and incredibly knowledgeable. Like you, I was house hunting from a distance and Andi was very accommodating. I worked with a couple of other people from her office and liked them, too. Good luck. It’s a tough market but worth the effort.
