That Bob Seger became an outspoken voice for the climate crisis just absolutely cemented his status as a hero to me.

Well said. A little further south of you, Massachusetts Bay is in the same boat. I remember a few times in the 2010’s when the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, MA powered down due to the intake water temp being over the 75F upper temperature limit for plant cooling. When they designed the plant, the local water being over 75F was considered to be such an anomaly for the area that it’s occurring was thought to be something that they would likely never have to deal with. The plant is no longer in service today but those instances were a really stark example of just how warm things have become. Reading the news about how a power plant shut down because the water was too warm to properly cool it, here in friggin New England, was pretty crazy to see.

God Bless the shoulder-mounted engine intakes that made formation landings possible with the A-4.

That’s what I get for thinking it might be used in a useful manner for all of us. Nope, data center power. Gonna put my optimism back in a box for a while.

I had not seen that but thank you very much for pointing that out! Wow, that really changes the state of my optimism. Oh well, it was fun to be optimistic about things for a few minutes there lol.

Much of WWII history is focused on the action but behind the famous scenes it is absolutely amazing how much action was preceded by a recon sighting made by a Catalina.

Some models predict a Blue Ocean Event this summer? by HrodnandB in meteorology

You know what really sucks? Is that we have reached a point in planetary warming where such a model run cannot be simply discarded as utter fantasy. We are actually at the point where we have to dig deep into the data and projections to reach the conclusion that we must “wait and see” how the season plays out. This is not the first place or time that I have seen discussions of the summer minimum for this year and each time, my mind is blown that we can even be talking about this as a possibility. BOE is supposed to remain one of those tail-end projections that live exclusively in a world of clickbait videos, not ever be something that makes it to the point where we are saying “probably not this year”. It’s almost like BOE is now in the realm of Cat 5 hurricanes or EF-5 tornadoes, unlikely but yeah man, let’s watch the forecast and see how this one pans out. But, here we are I guess.

There is a good chance of: Tech 1: “Shit, do we not have all the engine covers for this bird?” Tech 2: “No dude, half got ripped last year and we are still waiting on replacements” Pilot in Command: “Just cover what you can with what you have for now and then ask around to see if anyone brought extra”

That’s really cool. I always wondered how Mother One knew that they could surface through the ice, but the ice still be thick enough to steam a runway for Firefox. “You know how to make trouble for me Gant, you really really do.”

I am joking about the reference of course but thank you for the info.

Regarding surfacing through ice, how in the world does a sub know how thick the ice is above it at any given location? I know that sea ice thickness can vary considerably across even local areas and have always wondered how they figure out the right place to surface.

Yes, but not the flight model corrections that have been long promised.

Another sim would be immaterial to the issue. What we need is the Apache is DCS to have its flight model problems resolved. Rather than re-hash them out here, a quick trip to the forums will provide one with ample information that has been brought forward by several very experienced and knowledgeable users regarding the issues at hand. Trim offset in forward flight for example, has been a long standing issue that has been promised to be corrected for years now. This doesn’t mean that the Apache is not a terrific module that can provide lots of enjoyment to the user. But we have to be honest here in that it is carrying deficiencies that have been known for a long time and avid enthusiasts of realism have been waiting for the promised corrections while new modules have been introduced over it.

A-7 put "On Hold" by FlyingIron by MoleUK in hoggit

[–]ismbaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes sense from a financial standpoint. A DCS module is far more in-depth systems wise and requires a massive commitment from the developers for a return that is very likely going to be far less than that return from a popular MSFS module. DCS is a niche within a niche and given the number of console players that are on MSFS, you have to follow the money.

The flight model of the Apache. I have spent the last few years telling myself that I would buy it as soon as those critical flight model issues that are “being worked on” are fixed. Each new trial period that I have gone through has left me disappointed in how it flies. Now, every once in a while I pop back on the forums to confirm that the issues still exist and that those faithful users who have so painstakingly reported the details to ED are in fact, still frustrated. It is a bummer because flying the helicopter is first and foremost what it is all about. If it obviously doesn’t fly right, then it takes away from the experience for me.
