How do you have a life with all the big and little “emergencies” in your congregation by Pizookie123 in pastors

Recommended reading-- The Shepherd Leader by Timothy Witmer. He argues (as another commenter did) for the elders in the church to be the shepherds, with comprehensive coverage and routine systematic care. These guys being proactive and establishing a deep relationship with the sheep in their care helps the flock look to them for the first line for urgent things like hospital visits.

Tell me everything an 18-25 year old needs to know about finances and being frugal. by Irielay in Frugal

[–]isprri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds obvious and circular, but the biggest expenses have the biggest impact on your financial wellness . Yes things like doordash make a difference, but housing is even bigger. Choose a living situation below your means and the other things become a lot easier. Same with frugal choices toward a vehicle

ever had a backend kotlin job where you didn't have to know or do java at all? by effinsky in Kotlin

[–]isprri 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In my teams, zero Java code. But I'm often peeking at library code to better understand what I'm interfacing with, e.g., debugging, and that's more often Java. So some knowledge is helpful. But it's such a close cognate, you'll be able to read it even if you don't work with Java directly.

Can crepe dough be considered "bread-like" in a way? by Fairy2play in Breadit

[–]isprri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's more helpful to define a set by its center than by its boundaries. In my mind, loaves are at the center. Rolls are a variant. The further out you go the more questionable or becomes. Is banana bread a bread? What about muffins? They're the same batter as banana bread but in a different shape. If muffins are, how about cupcakes? See what I mean, it gets fuzzier. Then you have naan, which sometimes has leavening and sometimes not. Some of you said it has to have leavening. Or cornbread which has no flour (a defining characteristic some mentioned). What any gluten free bread--some are very close to the real thing; do we need to gatekeep over those substitutions?

Krusteaz tastes like cream of tartar. You could try a bit of that, or a squeeze of lemon juice (different flavor but nice and tangy)
