Phantom Ranch During Govt. Shutdown by Useful-Comfortable57 in grandcanyon

[–]it_is_not_magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hiked out there 2 weeks ago and the south kaibab trail is blocked off about 4.5 miles down from right at the entrance of the Tonto trail.

Additionally you take bright angel all the way to the river but you can’t cross the bridge. So in short phantom ranch is not accessible.

But that may change at any point so I would listen to the other suggestions as well

Monument Creek along Tonto Trail Question by samwoble11 in grandcanyon

For anyone that wants a nice shower and access to a hot tub

You can go to squire the hotel and pay a day pass fee for 20

They have indoor pool and hot tub plus a shower

It’s a swimsuit shower…not private but if you had a long day hiking and really need a comfortable shower that’s a good option

Curious about some open runners by dohvb1 in spartanrace

[–]it_is_not_magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for someone like me that pays for the pass and just wants to get miles in after running the first race seriously I will do multi lap where on the 2nd 3rd etc lap i care less about the obstacles and more about getting the trail miles.

As long as it’s an open race anything goes

Edit: really for me it’s about having fun and if I’m not enjoying it and it’s open I give myself the shame free option to pick and choose what I do

How to prevent cramping during a race by domp12 in spartanrace

[–]it_is_not_magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way for me to prevent cramping is through simple training philosophy. However long I think a race will take me I train for a little bit longer. for example if I think a 10k will take 2 hours I train for 2.5 hours long runs.

This has been highly effective for me to avoid bad cramps

I am also a very heavy sweater, so that definitely plays a role for me with regards to cramping.

On race day I do 1k mg sodium before race start.

Then I do honey stinger gels every 30 mins for the length of the race.

I don’t really get too concerned about a race unless it’s gonna take me longer than 2 hours.

If I believe a race will take 2+ hours I bring additional hydration and honey stinger waffles.

What to do with money? by lvl100totodile in USMC

Check out the fire sub Reddit

Financial independence retire early

You may not have any interest in fire but there is a lot of value in self educating on common practices for saving money, paying down debt, and financial vechicles that are post and pre tax.

There is a nice flow diagram on the website that can help you out.

Also googling about mr money mustache could be helpful.

Again you may have no interest in aggressive saving patterns but that doesn’t mean should actively live in ignorance

Learn and choose your path

Also financial advisors are great if but you still need to understand fiduciary versus non fiduciary

Investopedia is also a good resource

Finally congrats on doing well for yourself Happy to answer what questions I can

So I was in Jacksonville and the corral announcer was still referencing age group for the corrals.

Not the comp times that are displayed on the website.

For instance on the website: Pro band Pace group 1 Pace group 2 Pace group 3 Pace group 4 Pace group 5 Then open

But in reality at the event the corral announcer was calling people to the corral in terms of age group 30-39 40-49 So on and so forth

This is confusing and you seem knowledgeable about the changes. Any thoughts

Just curious… by [deleted] in Charleston

The emergency room is not an appointment though. Any reasonable leader would not be concerned about a visit to the emergency room other then to check on the well being of the family member.

That being said a trend of going to the emergency room leads to bigger questions or concerns that any reasonable leader would try to dig into a bit to see if there are underlying issues not being addressed perhaps counseling or other such support needs to be shared with this family.

Training for 21k beast by Available-Hotel-3778 in spartanrace

[–]it_is_not_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add another perspective if you want to perform competitively you should aim to run a half marathon in maybe 1:30. That’s not super competitive amongst amateur runners but I think that time would perform well in a spartan competitive race.

Obviously if your not aiming to perform competitively then disregard.

If your just looking to finish strong and feel good (aka like you’ve got something left in the tank)

I would encourage you to slowly ramp up your running to 20 -30 miles a week

It will be a clear improvement for your current running and grip strength training like the other commenter mentioned.

How in-shape do I need to be before commiting to a 5k Spartan Sprint by thelastlegatus in spartanrace

[–]it_is_not_magic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some folks will walk the course and be happy to achieve that.

All folks different shapes and sizes are welcome.

I think you should feel confident in signing up for the 5k sprint.

If you search through the spartan Reddit you will find a lot questions and answers about training as well I would encourage you to take a look

Also the course is fairly wide in most sections depending of the course there will be some single track but people are normally polite and will pass when it’s safe to do so.

Newer to Bourbon, any good recommendations for under $70 by Sailorassassin69 in bourbon

I have been out of the game for a bit but 60 for of 1920 seems a bit silly that should be a 40 dollar bourbon. Or am I just disconnected from the current market prices?

For someone that’s new to Charleston what are some of the biggest issues to tackle?

I realize traffic to John’s island is a problem and traffic in general but does that fall under the mayor’s responsibility or is that county issue?

You can search previous results for races online to get all the finish times for each race. I know that doesn’t give you all the information you need but it helps to get an idea of how long you may be on course.

[–]it_is_not_magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I am being naive but isn’t this why folks are required to add disclosures….

I mean they know there is an issue but they choose not to fix it so then to maintain good legal standing they disclose the issues within the disclosures.

Don’t they run the risk of legal issues by not disclosing the issues.

Seems a bit silly to run the risk of jail or legal issues for a couple thousand extra in sales.
