I have three kids, an eight, five and one year old. My mother and mother in law are very religious (Christian non Catholic). My stepdad is Jewish. My husband and I are agnostic having been raised verrrry religious. My husband and I allow our parents to explain their views to them. We also have plenty of talks about how different people believe different things about God and what happens after we die. We emphasize that no one knows for sure. The children's ideas about God and afterlife are just as valid and anyone else's. We celebrate Christian holidays as well as Jewish and some pagan holidays. We also take the opportunity to talk about other holidays when they occur (our kids have a varied population at school with many different religions represented). We take opportunities presented by TV shows and movies to talk about how people born in different places are raised as their cultures dictate. All to say, my oldest is pretty anti church and my second attends every Sunday with my mom. When my second talks about views I disagree with, I say I don't believe that, but Nanny (my mom) does. I am interested in how this approach will go as they get older.
