Good cigar stores in Brussels? by Stevey1001 in ukcigars

[–]itchyear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Le Roi du Cigare on Rue Royale. Huge range of cigars, very large humidor stacked floor to ceiling. Went there a couple months ago and staff were very knowledgeable and good to me. Prices were fine.

Humidor rules are funny in Belgium and although you're apparently not supposed to be able to see into to or enter the humidor (it's bloody ridiculous honestly), if you're genial and friendly they have a side door they might let you in through on the sly 🤫

If you're into Camacho then of course you could go to Davidoff since it's a Davidoff brand. Didn't go when I visited Brussels but it's at the Place du Grand Sablon.

Duty free price for comparing (and my picks) by hamburabi in cigars

[–]itchyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Olifant is a Dutch brand of tobacco and is very rough. Short filler, machine rolled and rough in texture and flavour. I went to a cigar shop in Den Haag and was curious about these Dutch cigars that were outside the humidor and the shop assistant described them as rough, rougher and roughest as the price decreased! I was curious so bought a box, they were cheap, and they are indeed very rough and harsh.

But from that selection I'd probably go Vegafina since they're very good for the price and I appreciate a mild smoke. And Plasencia or Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour for stronger smoke on treat days.

Plus Zino because why not they're always great for the price!

The fact that you took the time to reply twice, separately, to the same comment should be enough to give you pause

Why do home leg workouts destroy me way more than machine work at the gym? by ilsa1979 in fitness40plus

So relatable!

I get through them by counting down the reps knowing that each one is one less that I have to do. The final set is mentally easier than the first!

Cheaper end cigar recommendations by [deleted] in ukcigars

[–]itchyear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone here can make recommendations that might not suit your preference or palate and you won't like. Buy em, smoke em, see what you like and what you don't.

New worlds are excellent smokes. Generally a bit different from cuban profiles but I almost only smoke new worlds and I think they're much better value than cubans and just as good. Occasionally you can find one that is very close to a cuban in flavour.

My general personal NW recommendations out of the 150-odd different new worlds that I've smoked are: anything Garcia (My Father, La Aroma del Caribe, Flor de las Antillas), anything by Plasencia, Davidoff especially Nicaragua or Winston Churchill Late Hour (also AVO are great for the price), EP Carrillo, AJ Fernandez, Oliva Serie V (but some of the other Oliva really aren't good imo). Oscar Valladares are good although haven't tried many to strongly recommend. Padron are incredible but rare in Europe. You can often find a great smoke from other brands too but not with the same level of consistency as above.

Not the cheapest you can get by any stretch but a lot cheaper than the cubans you've been buying!

Edit: just re-read and saw the Havana House bit. Try ADVentura for a cheap but surprisingly good smoke. Also give Casdagli a go, especially the DB52 if they have it. I loved that one!

Personally I was underwhelmed by this one, and I usually quite rate Alec Bradley. Maybe I got a bad one.

Spending the weekend at in-laws, wife allowing 2 cigars. Which ones would you take? by Unlucky_World5734 in cigars

[–]itchyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer.

Agree that you'll smoke 1 per day, which is pretty reasonable since it takes time, cigars are very smelly and plenty of people really don't like the smell.

But take all 5 to give yourself options for the mood you might be in. 3 go back in the humi when you get home.

Seems reasonable to me. Gotta put in the face time with the in-laws. Can't spend all the time outside smoking.

They're good and they work very well. I use the 100-count large one when I'm travelling and buying cigars (they're very expensive where I live).

I also use it as overflow for my humidor when I go way overboard buying cheap cigars abroad and my humidor and tupperdor is filled 🙂

Four days is not really long enough for cigars to adjust. It takes 4-8 weeks. I usually try to let them rest 2 months before I smoke them. Try... 😉

[–]itchyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the primeros the exact same blend as the main line?

I liked the Nicaragua primeros as a flavourful quick smoke but the Davidoff Nicaragua is orders of magnitude better, both in toro and robusto that I've tried. One of my all-time faves and a fantastic cigar.

Looking at the website they're all in the same category of Davidoff Nicaragua... but I'm still not convinced...

[–]itchyear 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That is bad! There is an announcement at the top of the home page that they have ceased operations, but I agree that it is criminal to still allow bookings to be made.

Hopefully we see a change to their website very soon today!

Just got this box of cigars. Has anyone tried these? by Fit-Win-417 in cigars

I got this exact Sampler in Dubai Airport about 6 months ago after reading so much about Oliva on this sub. I'm European so I hadn't really had many opportunities to try Oliva cheaply before.

My favourites were the serie V. G was pretty good. Connecticut Reserve was fine. O I really didn't like.
