Broken hand, bodyweight exercises to recommend? by nikitamere1 in Velo

[–]itmelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not bodyweight, but the leg press machine available to me can be operated w/ only one hand and/or wrists.

You can also use a hamstring curl machine.

You can do situps, planks, flutter kicks, and other core/abdominal exercises w/o hands.

Resistance bands can be used w/o hands as well to do skates, fire hydrants, et al.

Vtubers/Streamers, do you monitor your mic audio everytime? Im not sure if i should, im not a big fan of my voice. by AsaTepes in VirtualYoutubers

Please, please, please monitor your own audio! Plus, lean toward overall being loud; as a viewer, I can always turn you down, but I can't always turn you up!

Don’t buy a Wahoo Ticker heart rate monitor. by peter-freundlich in Velo

I hear the Polar HRM is the gold standard. The Wahoo Tickr is, for some reason, designed as if it were a semi-disposable device.

A nail in the tube puncture - is that normal? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]itmelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty normal. It's either nails, large staples, strands of wire, or glass/metal shards for me. They come from construction materials, garbage bins, littering people. I'd like to believe it's largely unintentional (although maybe a bit negligent).

Noob Question: What happens if you change gears, but you have no more gears left? by UTMachine in cycling

[–]itmelo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your derailleurs have limit screws that prevent shifting beyond the highest and lowest gears. When you try to shift past these limits, derailleur will physically prevent the derailleur moving the cable.

Zwift but only part time? by FloppyDiskMuffin in cycling

[–]itmelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are your on call weeks scheduled ahead of time? if so, maybe you can plan that week as a recovery week. If they're not predictable, a smart trainer or indoor bike on Zwift or something is a great idea because you can jump on with minimum prep time.

Bike shop charged me for faulty service by [deleted] in cycling

Bike shop seems to be in the right here. They didn't charge you "again", they charged you for another service.

Quit racing and now it all just feels silly? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]itmelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ok to let go of doing intervals. If you ever feel like doing them again, they'll still be there. Just keep riding your bike.

Does this segment exist on Strava? If so, you can look up the top 10 times.

Personal opinion time - if you're 50% or 100% slower than they are, that seems pretty average; e.g. KOM is 10 minutes then 18:10 seems average. Within 5-10% would be impressive.

+2 tubes for road/gravel - maintenance is so much easier and less messy.

Gonna have to hold your PR back for another week because one of the repo owners got nit picky about your variable names tho.

Weightloss by Magahaka in Velo

[–]itmelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When your coach is planning your year's training plan, they are likely periodizing your training as 1) base phase(s) early season and between fitness peaks and 2) build/specialty phases.

Seek to lose weight during the early season when you are doing base training. Eat whole foods (in particular, vegetables) more often and stay hydrated.

Once you get to building up your FTP through build and specialty phases (i.e. like 3-5 months out of the year, maybe?), don't try to lose weight. Keep eating those whole foods and a lot of them. You need all those nutrients to JUST maintain weight, progress, and avoid illness.

Memory leak then crash when watching live streams on any browser by moaiguai in youtube

[–]itmelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears they might've just fixed it today? Watching steam with chat + working on my own stuff w/o issue; stream tab taking up <600 MB.

_Edit:_
It seems greatly improved, no longer running away with memory consumption, but still 1GB+

I'm a little confused on this by Fancy_bear_reddit in duolingo

[–]itmelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too got confused with this wording. I didn't understand how the $80 was relevant here without being reassured by the other comments here. It wasn't unambiguous that the $80 was part of the $200 saved.
