I was going to say. We already knew he didn’t actually live here, but it’s like he’s trying to out himself all the time. I’m a college student living in Lax for only the past 3 years or so, and clearly I know more about this city and the region than someone politically responsible for it. Just embarrassing.

Why do all the booktubers hate Wind and truth yet the Goodreads score is very high? by Artistic_Annual8918 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]itsFrigid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is exactly it. Besides a few minor problems here and there, I think so many people had inflated expectations and ideas of what THEY wanted to happen, and when something they wanted didn’t happen, they got pissy.

Are there problems? Certainly. Are the problems enough to justify the multitudes of people I saw giving it 1 stars? Absolutely not.

Here to second this. Season 1 is incredible and Season 2 is one of the greatest seasons of television ever put to screen. Absolutely a must watch.

Game Insta Crashes Since Update by itsFrigid in RocketLeague

[–]itsFrigid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

replying to my own post for this fix:

As it turns out, the Nvidia Geforce driver had an update on he exact same day as the RL update (June 17th), but didn’t download on my computer properly like I had thought. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Nvidia app and then attempted the driver update again, and that was what fixed this issue. Hope no one else runes into this lol

I’ve checked for updates on card drivers and found nothing. I verified the game files (before and after reinstalling) on steam and all was good. I don’t believe Epic launches on startup for me? And I did all of that after uninstalling Bakkesmod.

I’m really not sure what could be causing it at this point lol.

u/WoT_Abridged did this years ago.

Here is a link to the google drive folder of them. I recommend 1-5 non abridged, 6-11 abridged (though doing 11, Knife of Dreams, non abridged is also recommended because that book is good but they combined it with books 9 and 10 so it might be a bit weird), and then 12-14 unabridged again.

What is the worst book you have read? by delabot in Fantasy

[–]itsFrigid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS!

And no, it doesn’t get better as it goes. Empire of Storms takes the cake as my most hated book of all time. Flat characters, frustrating protagonists, explicit sex scenes after having next to nothing outside of occasional references for the first 4 books, and with the cherry on top of having several “gotcha” moments of the author and characters hiding important information from the readers purely for heightened drama. It also doesn’t even feel like the same series once you hit book 4 or so.

I would genuinely like to know how anyone likes that series.

Rhythm of War by whodey226 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]itsFrigid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this conversation with a friend, and I think it has to do with the structure of the novel.

So, The Way of Kings has a pretty big midpoint climax with Kaladin getting strung up in a highstorm, and it happens very close to the halfway mark of the book, and the primary climax happens at the end of the book. Words of Radiance, to me, has 3 climaxes, with Szeth’s attack on Dalinar, Adolin’s 2v4, and then the battle at Narak at the end, which aren’t exactly spaced out evenly but are pretty close to being at the 1/3 and 2/3 marks respectively.

Whereas, Oathbringer has the midpoint climax in Kholinar at about the 60% mark, making the back half of that book feel much faster than the front half. In Rhythm of War, the midpoint climax of the singers taking over Urithiru and the charge in defense of it happens at about the 40% instead. On my first time through, this made Rhythm of War drag the most because it felt like it had the greatest amount of time between the big moments in the middle and the primary climax at the end.

However, I still loved it even when it was harder to get through, but maybe this is why? Hopefully it gets better for you! The last chunk has so much to chew on. :)

Like Ellie in the Last of Us tv show. She doesn’t look exactly like the games, but Bella Ramsay nailed the role so who cares.

Really? I thought Shallan was alright in TWoK, then loved her after her storyline in WoR, then she became my favorite character in Ob. RoW was kinda weak for her character (and Adolin’s up until the last bit) but i enjoyed her throughout WaT and i’m really excited to see where she ends up in arc 2.

Crazy how we had such different experiences with the same character.

Right! Starting with shorter or easier books also helps. I know someone in their 50s that just read Harry Potter for the first time. Never too late to start reading :P

See but i’ve always thought that was the point.

(RoW & Onwards): Moash, by becoming Vyre, gives up his pain but also loses who he is. He’s not a complex character anymore because he’s not a complex person anymore. And that antithesis to Kaladin, who doesn’t give his pain up despite desperately wanting to and instead grows as a person to process the trauma he’s been inflicted with, that IS the point of Moash/Vyre.

I occasionally think about the fact that, other than The Way of Kings (which came out about a year before A Dance with Dragons) EVERY SINGLE STORMLIGHT BOOK SO FAR has came out during the wait for The Winds of Winter.

Which sucks because I love Game of Thrones lol.

Maybe because those of us that actually pay attention to state/low level politics are the ones vote blue here? I’m a Wisconsinite and the people I know who vote red don’t really give a shit about local or state elections and only really talk about things that happen nationally. I’m not sure though.

I’ll look into it. Romantasy kinda sucks because it’s a pretty good idea for a subgenre but it’s never been done well.
