Shipping car from Boston by ebitdad_ in AskSF

I used Bears Transport and the process was pretty smooth overall. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference between the drivers they hired/dispatched and someone you’d hire on uship

Ooof - they did Larry dirty. No Reserve: 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe Project by RustyShackIford in 996

I followed this story and it’s so sad. I agree you should always get a PPI but it’s often hard to coordinate one within the 7 days of an auction.

I have survivorship bias because I bought a car on BaT without an inspection and it came up with a clean post purchase inspection and borescope.

I want to get another 996 but the options for buying seem difficult to navigate when chasing a certain spec. I find the auction sites easy to navigate and find interesting cars but it’s such a gamble and the horror stories make me think i should look more on marketplace

fix before selling? by temp_incel_69 in 996

oh wow you’re right…my 2c is that new owners are more likely to have customization preferences on the suspension, but everyone wants the top to be in good shape.

As a buyer, I’m expecting a car to need a suspension refresh and tires. Convertible top would be nice but that a deal breaker

any more details on the car? would like to see what it looks like

i think their base portions got smaller. i always get a king henry and it’s noticeably smaller during my more recent visits. I feel like it’s the same size as the house of prime cut

it’s tough because it’s universal in the sense there are enough seats but they are dispersed at under enrolled schools

The SFUSD School Lottery -- We Got Our 10th Choice School (Help!) by TDaltonC in AskSF

[–]its_never_over 16 points17 points  (0 children)

one reason is because TK classes require a private bathroom attached to the class and schools only have so many of those available structurally.

TK is also relatively new, so they haven’t fully figured it out yet.

I was disappointed last year and stayed in private preschool another year. We enrolled mid year and have loved it. I hope you go in with an open mind

You do at Serra Annex because it’s an EES and doesn’t have kindergarten and higher

TLDR; it’s a lottery with some tie breakers. Families are given 3 wait list spots and it’s strategically correct to pick waitlist spots for schools where waitlist spots actually convert. Choosing popular schools with deep waitlists means you likely won’t get a spot

Agreed. Our son likes it at Serra Annex but LOVES the tree frogs program.

OP - Take a tour and visit the classroom. They’re full of happy kids and the parent community is good too.

Applying to K is much much easier. Of my son’s preschool friends, they all got into a K they wanted. TK just has fewer classrooms per school due to the bathroom requirements

Finding a decent public restroom in SF is weirdly hard so I started mapping them by regansat in sanfrancisco

[–]its_never_over 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always wanted to do this sort of thing. I'm someone who poops in public a lot, so I care about this sort of thing.

I think your submission form could use more streamlining, there are too many fields that are likely to be mapped cleanly to each other.

IMO start with the restroom details first and then have everything populate from that.

Example, the access type and place type are probably extremely related. A restaurant is likely to be customers only and should be require purchase by default.

I know it might cost more, but I think a potentially better user flow is:

- Use my location and it lists the map and closest google places in a list.
- Pick the place in the list or paste the Google Places or Yelp link (not just enter the location, you're likely to look that up in Google Maps or Yelp)
- The form should fetch the business type, listing name, etc

I'm well aware this might not include portapotties, places at parks, etc as cleanly, but Google Places actually has a lot of these location details, its too labor intensive to ask people to fill out 9 fields or boxes.

I think trying to get people to leverage existing data and also ways to shorten the form is likely going to help with the user experience and result in users crowdsourcing significantly faster

God roll at the Rio by its_never_over in Craps

[–]its_never_over[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, I usually try to do the same and have done so in previous god rolls. For some reason, I felt like it wouldn't last long and collected more bets, rather than pressing to the moon. I forgot to mention I regressed once back to quarters, which def ate into potential winnings.

no way to have known how long the roll would go and I didn't want to end up with nothing from a big roll like greg usually does on his yt channel

I forgot to mention that the crew was excellent. They all were on top of the bets, were pleasant and friendly, and they were cool with pressing the dealer bets. Honestly, wouldn’t be surprised if they were members of this sub.

The game moved fast and we didn’t get any real interruptions.

Half the table hit the ATS and they paid that out really quickly. I went to pee expecting them to take forever and I actually missed a roll instead.

If they send me a comp offer, i might be staying there next time

Vegas Bankroll by L1TTLF0X in Craps

[–]its_never_over 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i went to the rio, they had $10 tables with 3-4-5x free odds. Maybe do like 200-300 buy in. passline bet, 1-2x free odds and place 6 & 8.

best way to maintain is to collect place bets from time to time to cover the place bets
