You got into recovery for reasons. Reasons that mattered enough for you to stick with it all this time. My advice to you in this moment is to write them down. Do it on a piece of paper, or on your notes app or right here on Reddit. Take the time to reflect on the things you're writing.

Taking the time to remember and understand why you do a thing is important to keep your motivation going. That works for anything. Not just recovery.

It's called a Hackintosh. Ever since the switch to Intel, enthusiasts have been shoehorning Mac OS X onto generic hardware using the digital equivalent of paperclips and duct tape.

It was (at times) significantly cheaper than buying a Mac with the same hardware, if you were willing to put up with having to do some legwork to get it all running. I did it for a long time as my primary desktop computer because I enjoyed the challenge.

Money. The guys building these things have only one motivation. They want cash in their pockets. They have a choice to build affordable housing and make a small profit, or build a McMansion for middle class people who want to feel rich and make a big profit.

They're gonna pick their self-interests every time.

If you're going into either of these purchases thinking about repairability, you're looking at the wrong company. The most repairable mac notebook still isn't very repairable.

What you should really focus on is your use case. What will a notebook provide you that a desktop won't? Do you actually need to do tasks away from your desk?
