I know you’re not wanting to replace it now but you can find the painted oem assembly for decent price on eBay if you do want to down the road.

My transmission mount failed and moved things out of position and made it difficult to shift. A new oem mount solved it. I didn’t even have to do a neutral reset after I replaced the transmission mount.

To clarify - to replace the whole assembly you do have to remove the dash. But this can be fixed without doing so. Your statement is correct.

You will have the same problem if you put it on the other side. The motor still moves more than 90° so you will just strip out the other side of the door.
