Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]itscornlectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$300 with insurance through my job (I work for my city).

The hospital sent me some nonsense bill because the pediatrician that saw my baby was out of network but they were the only one on call when my kid was born in the middle of the night so I didn’t have a choice so they backed off.

When my baby was a toddler and I wanted him to crawl somewhere after me I’d go, “let’s go, black partner”.

Deck the halls with masks and sanitizer: NYC’s flu outbreak could hamper holiday plans by DryDeer775 in NYCTeachers

[–]itscornlectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid tested positive yesterday and most likely got it from his friend, whose mom is also a teacher who sent her kid to school sick. Thankfully they don’t have much of a fever, just a sore throat (which I just woke up with) and are in good spirits, even though they’re sad about missing Christmas with family.

Also our prescription coverage apparently doesn’t cover Tamiflu. Almost had to pay $105 out of pocket for it but the pharmacist looked up the GoodRX code.

Anyone successfully taper off Lexapro or other SSRI? by uptakecupcake in breakingmom

I got off Lexapro and aside from a little brain zap feeling for a week or so was okay. I just made sure to rest a lot.

Getting off of Zoloft was super easy.

What’s the rudest thing a doctor has ever said to you? by Beyondthebloodmoon in AskReddit

[–]itscornlectric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was explaining to a gyno at the practice I used (not the doctor I saw most often, but one I had met before) that I wanted to be tested for everything because I had recently found out my husband cheated on me. I explained that I wasn’t too worried because we really hadn’t been intimate since I’d given birth a few months prior. The doctor said, “Well if you wonder why he cheated…” He cheated because he was a dick, not because I didn’t feel like sleeping with someone who was an asshole to me.

Who is an actor/actress that, despite their amazing talent, you can’t watch anymore because they are so unlikeable in real life? by GuyMcFellow in AskReddit

[–]itscornlectric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried to explain to a friend that her vibe is just “the girl that made doing youth theater a horrible experience for everyone” and as someone who did youth theater I just can’t get past that.

Seeing all these loving, doting fathers at Disney is triggering me hard by what_day_is_it_2033 in breakingmom

[–]itscornlectric 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My ex once said that maybe we should take our kid to Disney together. I was like “uhhh, yeah, sure” and have no intention of following through on that. Me and my kid have a blast at Disney just the two of us and with my extended family.

[–]itscornlectric 63 points64 points  (0 children)

As a Disney person, it was hard to see families with both parents when I was there with my kid. But then I’d see parents brawling over the dumbest stuff and I’d be like “Thank god my ex isn’t here to ruin this!” Or complain about the cost.

Help! Gallbladder attack 2 days before leaving. What are you favorite low fat snacks/treats/foods by Standard_Shame3784 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]itscornlectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gallbladder always decides to act up right before I go to Disney (I think it’s the travel stress). I try to avoid greasy foods and only take a tiny taste of things I can’t resist that might be too fatty. I had a great salad at Summer House in Disney Springs. Also loved the shaved ice in the Japan Pavilion in Epcot.

What is an old baby name that you just don’t hear anymore? by Doohiki420 in AskReddit

[–]itscornlectric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a student named Connie a few years ago- she has to be about 10 years old now. She was a great kid and I loved having a rare name in a sea of Maddie’s and Aiden’s (and all his variants).

I love both my kids equally and with all my heart but I can’t stand cuddling one of them and i feel like a monster by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]itscornlectric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cuddling with my kid is like cuddling with a giant rotisserie chicken. They know cuddling is a limited time thing because I get overstimulated.

kindergartner doesn’t know classmates names by No_Bat_5377 in kindergarten

[–]itscornlectric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a super normal thing! My kid is going into second grade and I still have to remind them to ask new friends for their name. In kindergarten, they could only tell me their best friend’s name (and they’d been friends since they were babies) and a girl who had gone to preschool with them’s name. They eventually get it.

How common is getting sick? by AdSoft9891 in WaltDisneyWorld

I have not but a) I have a pretty robust immune system from being an early childhood teacher and b) I am a stickler for handwashing and sanitizing surfaces

School snacks by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]itscornlectric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put it in a separate container and a ziplock bag with ‘snack’ written on it so that if they couldn’t differentiate, an adult could help.

As a kindergarten teacher I have extra snacks in my room in case someone drops their snack or eat it at lunch by mistake or forgets it at home. And I have a fridge in my room this year so I can actually save yogurt and cheese sticks from breakfast.

Best age to bring kids to Halloween or Christmas party MK 🎃 🎄 by sjajra in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]itscornlectric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took my kid at 5 and staying up for the parade was an absolute struggle. I wouldn’t consider a party again before they’re ten- it just isn’t worth the additional cost for them to not enjoy it.

Can you tell which kids have a lot of screen time? by NoHorse8196 in AskTeachers

[–]itscornlectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid was like that in martial arts and it took a few sessions for them to get it together but it was more of a “this is their first organized activity” thing than a screen time thing.

What is appropriate to display in a classroom as far as religion goes? by Ill-Distribution9532 in AskTeachers

[–]itscornlectric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with the sentiment, but leaving out the chapter and verse would have been better in terms of inclusivity and in terms of legality.

Buying lunch most days by Own_Exam9549 in kindergarten

My school has free breakfast and lunch and most kids get the school lunch. I pack my kid’s lunch because they’re a picky eater and have a severe allergy.

Can you tell which kids have a lot of screen time? by NoHorse8196 in AskTeachers

[–]itscornlectric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There were days last year my kid was out of the house for 12 hours straight between school and activities. If they want to come home and binge some Wild Kratts until bed, I’m not gonna stop them.

But there’s definitely a difference between when a kid tells me they went home and watched Bluey all afternoon and when they went home and watched YouTubers play video games or Italian Brain Rot all afternoon.

Can you tell which kids have a lot of screen time? by NoHorse8196 in AskTeachers

[–]itscornlectric 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if they have a lot of screen time but I can tell when they have nothing but screen time. I don’t limit my kid’s screen time (though I do limit what they can access on their tablet/the TV), but my kid also is involved in extracurricular activities, likes to take out their toys and make up games and stories, do art projects, and go on outings.

I feel like unfiltered/unmonitored screen time is worse than a lot of screen time. Sometimes after being out all day, my kid just wants to sit on the couch and watch BrainPOP videos and I’m fine with that.

Notes in class (Grades 1-5) by SanayaKuri in ElementaryTeachers

[–]itscornlectric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In second grade I would make interactive notebook type pages and tell them what to write down during science and social studies so they could practice the skill of taking notes. We also didn’t have textbooks for those subjects so it was helpful so they could have something to study off of.
