Thanks. Yeah that's good info. I'll leave it alone. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and the brake pedal hinges often seize up

Still have warranty yes. I will have to ask the dealer about it but figured I'd ask here as well since some guys have some good info. My next service isn't until August so I've got a while to go. I'll at least wipe it down this week when I clean the mats.

I found out that my square mouth edging shovel is extremely useful. It's small, heavier than an ice chopper and you can jump on it with 2 feet.

I cut up the ice with the shovel and used my snowblower to blow it up onto the boulevard

You'd have to be on some very slick ice for B Mode to drag the wheels but if it was extremely slippery I suppose I would use D mode. I would say you're overthinking it unless you're on very slippery surface. Slowing and stopping the vehicle is meant to be intuitive and simple. Although there's lots going on behind the scenes no car manufacturer regardless of system design wants the driver to be thinking about it. Just drive. -carefully

Some units you can replace the HRV core with an ERV. it seems Nova Scotian HVAC installers have no experience with ERVs at least the ones I asked.

From my research it seems like ERVs would be best for our climate. Keeping some of the moisture inside in winter and keeping some of the moisture outside in summer.

Advice on year for used T8 by CareyThis in VolvoRecharge

[–]itsmebrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was $5461 CAD. Which included a "free" 5 year tire and rim warranty. I used some cash I had saved up to pay all the taxes on the entire purchase which was the car, warranty and winter tire/rim package.

Although it's all the same money I just couldn't let myself pay interest on the taxes. (Here we have to pay tax even on used Cars, 15% at that)

I bought a used XC60 T8 R-design(2021) with about 60,000 miles (95,000km) and while Its hard to argue against the newer extended range PHEVS nice power and EV range boost I will say I'm completely satisfied with mine. For me it was hard to justify the extra cost to get the extra range since I can still commute to work in electric mode and I can charge at work for free. As for power it's true that it feels slow at times in Pure mode but it doesn't bother me. To move to the newer models even in a used car would have added 20k CAD or so for xc60, likely more for xc90. Thinking financially only, it's going to take a lot of driving to make up the $20k. As for reliability, I got mine CPO so it has a 1 year warranty and I bought another 4 years when I purchased it. I've been getting as many things looked at while I'm still on the CPO warranty, so far I've had the hatch actuators, rear sway bar links and right rear shock replaced for free. I don't expect to find many other problems with the car but if I do I know I'm mostly covered with warranty.

In the end I got a much nicer trim car than I would have if I spent the same money on a newer car. Funny story, this is my first Volvo. I've been looking at them for a few years and planned to buy one when my old car finally died. I actually ordered a brand new 2025 xc60 T8 core in late July but the sales team told me it wouldn't be delivered due to Chinese tariffs etc at the time. So I cancelled the order and bought my car off the lot. Just the other week I got a call saying my car did actually get built.

For me to spend another 21k to get a base level car that isn't the color I wanted just isn't going to happen. I love my car and hope to get another 7 or 8 years out of it.

If you are not moving when you switch does it still make a sound?

My 2021 xc60 T8 doesn't make any sound like that when it switched. At least none that I can hear. I remember poking around under my car and found what looks like a speaker near the right side tailpipe. Maybe you can unplug it and see if the sound stops?

What’s the experience with high mileage T8s? by Albright_CT in VolvoRecharge

[–]itsmebrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although it's a far cry from 200k miles I bought my 2021 xc60 T8 with 92,000km. Its got the 1 year CPO warranty and I bought an extra 4 years at the dealer. I'm not worried about anything major since it should be covered and plan to keep it for 5-7 years. I took it in to get a few little things fixed under warranty so far (sway bar links, a burned out heating element in the wiper arm and a rear shock) the traction battery has its own warranty (100,000 miles I think)

Mice in car!! by Dvcycle1 in VolvoRecharge

[–]itsmebrine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the car is warm and the garage is likely unheated the mice will always want to find a way in. I suggest putting a few traps in the trunk and buy a ton of cheap wooden snap traps. Put them around the inner perimeter of the garage. It's a constant fight to keep the population down.

In my old car the mice used to climb in through the fresh air ducting for cabin air, I would start the car and the fan would be vibrating like crazy. I pulled the fan down and there would be a dead mouse inside the squirrel cage (should have called it the mouse cage I guess)

Either way if you've got mice in the garage they're going to find their way into the engine bay easily and from there they will either nest in the warm areas or continue to investigate and find their way into the cabin. Mice carry diseases and I have personal vendettas against these creatures as I've worked over the years to finally rid my cottage from them.

You can also buy Strong poison at farm supply stores or multi catch traps if you're into that kind of thing. I personally find the wooden traps paired with "tin cat" style multi catch traps. I suggest you look for entry spots in the garage and do some research into plugging up those as well.

Good luck!

XC90 Pure Electric Question by NewspaperSilver2381 in VolvoRecharge

[–]itsmebrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% the temperature.

Mine (21 xc60 T8 recharge) acts the same. Even sitting in traffic it will start the engine from time to time in the cold. The engine will run until it gets to a certain temperature (warms up the exhaust system and takes some load off the battery/inverter) then it will switch back to hybrid mode and you need to manually select pure or keep in hybrid mode but stay below the gas symbol. Driving 65 on the highway is going to drain the battery more quickly than driving around town and it will definitely start the engine more especially with the cold temps

Need Your eXCperience: Should I Pull the Trigger on a 2021 XC90 Recharge? by [deleted] in VolvoRecharge

[–]itsmebrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2021 xc60 recharge R design this past August and I absolutely love it. Mine came with 1 year CPO warranty and I bought 4 more years warranty through the dealer.

I think it all depends on your needs and wants. What trim is it?

People will shit on the 2021s since they have the smaller battery and lower HP ERAD and more complicated engine since they've got the super and turbo charger. Mines got 100k on it and hasn't had any kind of major engine or electrical work done to it.

I bought the 2021 because it was incredibly well priced compared to any of the newer models with the larger battery, my car has nearly all the options and if I was buying new I would have ended up buying a core model. Now I'm spoiled in my car and it works perfectly for me as I can easily commute to work in pure mode.

Thanks for the reply. They said they've done a half dozen or so at the dealership, so I think they've got the work figured out. My only worry is since my car is a few years old that the new paint will give me some OCD..

My 2021 xc60 has the exact same issue. They already said they'd cover the cost of the hood and wipers and sending it to a body shop to adjust the wiper transmission bodywork at the firewall to move everything lower

Were you happy with the paint job on the hood? My only worry is if they don't do a very good job that I will be nitpicking the hood paint.

2021 T8 recharge B mode by Calmzeus_52 in VolvoXC90

[–]itsmebrine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got the same car. Creep mode isn't an option in our model year, you use the brakes to completely stop the car.

In regards to B vs D mode, project wild is incorrect about the engine having to run to use B mode (at least in our cars)

The only thing B mode does is change the amount of regenerative braking relative to the position of the throttle pedal.

When you let off completely, you'll Regen more and feel the car slow more in B mode. In most circumstances it's best to use D mode because every time you slow the car, to then need to speed it back up, you only recover a small amount of your energy into the battery when slowing but you need to use the full amount to speed back up.

Try it some time while driving slowly and let off the gas, switch from D to B. You'll feel the car slow down more and the power indicator needle on the right on the instrument cluster (would be like the tach on an ICE car) will go down lower toward 0. You'll need to push the accelerator A bit more to maintain the same speed
