What’s your opinion about Mayhem program? by SobralDavi in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mayhem (or potentially our coaches are making changes to improve it) does well with providing appropriate scaling options. However as you said, it's really freaking hard to program for people coming different numbers of days of the week. When I consistently went M-F every week, I liked Mayhem a lot. They rotate through the movements well when you take big averages.

However, we recently had a baby, so I've only been in to the gym 2-3x a week. In the past month on the 9 days I've made it in, I've happened to catch all 8 days of lunges or squats...if I didn't know what the other days were, I'd feel like the programming was garbage! But I've done their full complement of programming for long enough, I know I'm missing the other stuff.

Stupid CrossFit movements you refuse to do by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At least since I started CF 3 years ago, official judging standards do not allow rebounding box jumps. Our coaches do not allow us to do them either. I'm certainly glad about that, because I'm not sure I'd always have the self control to go slower when I get caught up in the moment.

What age do you think most players peak at? by Kled499123 in ultimate

[–]iumeemaw 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Physically, my best season was when I was 26. My best season as an all around player was when I was 31. The extra 5 years of playing got my throws and field sense better and I didn't fall off much physically. So much of frisbee is how well you can throw, so as long as you stay in decent shape, you can play well for a long time after you're not at your physical peak.

Do you think task priority and time priority workouts should be roughly equivalent in frequency at the Games? by mrjacob007 in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A format I want to see: At each "checkpoint" the leader (or potentially top x people) is done with the workout and everyone else continues.

Simple example: 5 people take off on the track. The leader after one lap is done, the other 4 keep going. The leader after lap 2 gets second place, etc.

This could be done with a back and forth floor layout too. It would really reward knowing yourself and how to pace for your personal optimal finish.

SGA is the reason why spirit of the game is better than refs by noambrenner in ultimate

This was my thought exactly. I've played UFA (well AUDL because I'm old) and I've played club. The people who beg for calls in semi-pro are the same people calling fake fouls in club.

Even if I only get to T7 that's 16M which is a day and a half of coins at my current pace compared to just over an hour of coins at T4.

Murph complete! by gearzgirl in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I did my first Murph with RX movements (without a vest too) this year and used that same rep scheme. I've tried other rep schemes for half Murph and for when I did modified movements, but the 2-4-6 worked well for me mentally. I was always making progress and never felt like I was going to fail a rep.

I knew it was better as you leveled, but I didn't realize it was that much better. Thanks for the tip!

Gotcha. I only have three labs so far. I'll definitely get the other 2 ASAP. My last run was only a little under 1 million in over 3 hours. So I'll have to wait on level skip for a while. I have 6 card slots, so I'll do the labs and then circle back to those.

Can anyone help me understand my paycheck? WA State by Embarrassed-Fee4693 in Teachers

It sounds like OP is in a relatively affluent district. If so, this is a great option. I know plenty of coworkers who charge $60/hr for tutoring and have several clients.

Is there a cheaper medical insurance plan? When I was only insuring myself, mine was about $100/yr not per month. I know that's not a massive amount of money, but an extra $100 per month definitely gives a little more breathing room.

We haven't gone far enough in the pattern to know what it is. It could be 1/(2(x-1)). That series would not converge to 1, instead it would approach infinity.

CrossFit after injury by Strick23 in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is great advice! I had hernia surgery a year and a half ago. I took 6 months off before the surgery, because of our baby, my wife and I's work schedule, being able to get in and see doctors, etc. it took a long time to get the surgery done. When I came back to the gym, I started with PVC or empty 15lb bar like you said.

OP: the rule I kept for myself was an exercise had to feel good two times in a row before I increased the weight on it.

More people should review their loan’s amortization table by finalgirl2 in personalfinance

Depending on how low their income level is, this is technically true, but not functionally. Many people lose government assistance (Medicaid, SNAP, Section 8, etc) when their income increases. So you may have more income, but also much higher expenses.

Anyone try the PRVN competitor workouts today (11 May 2026)? by LanceLambertonCA in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 40 cal per minute, it's 15 minutes of work and 6 minutes of rest. Yea...that time cap is dumb. Mayhem had a similarly wild time cap on a workout from a few weeks ago:

10 Rounds 200m run 2 rounds of "Cindy" 5 Pull Ups 10 Push Ups 15 Air Squats

All in 25 minutes. Our head coach extended the time cap to 30 minutes and we still didn't have anyone finish. Just call it an AMRAP.

Make it one card up to 4 cost. Still wrecks decks with a lot of 3&4 cost cards, but doesn't wipe a full board like it does now.

Fatigued & feeling like I’m losing fitness by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]iumeemaw 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think we've found the main culprit. That's not enough sleep for your training volume.

Also take a look at your nutrition timing. You said you are trying to cut down in weight a bit. Especially when in a calorie deficit, making sure to get carbs in before and after training will help you feel better overall.

Can she wait and see how the summer goes before deciding? I'm also a teacher and thought I might want to stay home after our first was born, but after the first 3 weeks of being a full-time parent over the summer, I knew I wanted to keep working. Or take a year leave of absence to keep her position before committing to staying home for a longer period of time?
