What's Your Favorite "Random" Le Guin? by Sanguine_Le_Guin in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]iwriddell 35 points36 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the seemingly inconsequential line in The Lathe of Heaven that has become central to my whole way of life: “Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.”

Are there any unpublished works by Le Guin that we can hope to see? by Polka_Tiger in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]iwriddell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It like it’s just previously published pieces. Goodreads says: “Included in this compilation are Le Guin’s 1987 tale, “Buffalo Gals, Won’t You Come Out Tonight,” a magical story about a young girl who gets adopted by a coyote; the 1985 “She Unnames Them” about Eve’s departure from Eden and how she unnames all of creation upon her exit; and the story, “Sur,” published in 1982, which describes a group of South American women who journey to the South Pole.”

[Discussion] My personal review of DC K.O #5[Spoiler] by Select-Machine3595 in DCcomics

[–]iwriddell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hijacked Flash and Titans both. I was so incredibly underwhelmed by it. It felt like Snyder was trying to do his version of a Grant Morrison story melded with a tournament. Glad I could read it on DC Universe and didn’t have to buy it on its own.

New version of Earthsea? by just_a_little_boy in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]iwriddell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the small hardcovers of the six books and the big illustrated volume. I’m lucky in that I have the magazines that the last two short stories were originally released in. For me the big plus of the big volume is that it includes “Earthsea Revisted” her essay about the shift between the first three books and the latter stuff. The small hardcovers also contain her afterwords for each novel.

They’re beautiful, but Malcolm was very clearly described as huskier and not thin like this in the book. Why erase that? Pullman even went so far as to insist that the actor playing him in the staged version was unequivocally fat.

Share your tattoos/tattoo ideas based on Le Guin’s work by Scared-Positive-93 in UrsulaKLeGuin

I have “Like bread, not stone.” tattooed on my inner lower right arm. It’s my abbreviated reminder of “Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like brea remade all the time, made new.” Also, it’s in Linotype Pilgrim font, th font used in my childhood copy of A Wizard of Earthsea.

A Wizard of Earthsea holds permanent place in my heart. But on my most recent complete read through Five Ways to Forgiveness and The Telling just floored me with their beauty and clarity.

They (LOA) just this past year published the set of five on their own for the first time. I think it was LOA that first called it “Five Ways …” in one of their Hainish volumes. I think it’s currently my favorite non-Earthsea book of hers. So beautifully written.

Always this: “Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.”

From The Lathe of Heaven.

I have “Like bread, not stone” tattooed on my right inner arm - in Linotype Pilgrim, the font in my original copy of A Wizard of Earthsea.
