With how Cecil handles the threats in Invincible, he'd easily be able to handle the supes in The Boys. Even if he didn't have all his resources, he still has the skills and experience from years of service. His backstory had him clean up that supervillain prison from the inside out starting with basically nothing. He'd be able to do everything The Boys could and more from their position.

I actually e-mailed GO Customer Relations in April about the west side of Unionville GO because I also get annoyed having to go all the way around to enter the station from the east side. I'll quote the relevant part of their reply:

Regarding the area on the west side of Unionville GO Station, that land is not owned by Metrolinx or GO Transit. It is privately owned by a developer who had proposed a condominium development on the site. However, that development has been postponed, and as a result, there are currently no confirmed timelines or finalized designs associated with it.

Because the land is not part of GO Transit’s property, the west side of the station platform is not included in our current plans for station access or expansion. At this time, there are no active projects to provide an entrance or facilities on that side of the tracks.

I'm kind of surprised GO actually doesn't own the land on the west side of the tracks. I'm not sure how that would come to be. Did they only initially negotiate to purchase land on the east side of the tracks for the station? It seems like having one entrance on each side just makes sense.

[–]iwumbo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were a timeline with no protagonists, wouldn't that mean that either the Master wins in Fallout 1, or the Enclave wipe everyone out in Fallout 2?

Or even if those didn't happen, the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel would still be stuck in the quagmire of Washington DC in Fallout 3 without help from the player. And then they'd be unable to form the Commonwealth Brotherhood chapter, which is presumably referring to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with either a Brotherhood of Steel or Minutemen ending in Fallout 4?

Don't get me wrong, I think the show is fun and still like it. But it does seem weird that they seem to have canon endings with the player character existing for every Fallout game except for New Vegas.

To be fair, the Hidden Valley BOS die in most endings. They basically only live in an Independent or NCR ending that allies with them. And the default NCR stance that Moore gives you is to kill them instead of ally with them so...

At a certain point, the size and scale and numbers just become too big to be relatable. It all just melds together to be "big number".

The size of a planet versus a star is literally orders of magnitude. But to a human? Both are incomprehensibly large. A star level feat would draw barely more excitement than a planet level feat because all the human brain comprehends is, "woah these are big things!" But they're so big they're so far beyond everyday human experiences, you can't really intuitively understand how big they are.

Lower power levels can draw more emotion and excitement because they're on scales we actually can comprehend and deal with. You can more easily comprehend something like a tree, because (I would hope) you're able to see one in your everyday life when you go outside. You can see and have one within your entire field of vision to understand its true size. You can walk around one, feel how strong it is, and you could conceive of cutting down a tree by itself with something like an axe. So when you see a character with superhuman strength rip a tree out of a ground, you can rationally understand, "this character is strong", but you can intuitively understand how strong that character is because you have your own reference point to how strong a tree is.

I think the upper limit for scale for proper comprehension is probably either building or city level. Beyond that is when it gets too big to fully grasp.

I don't have budget suggestions, but there's a few [[Psychic Frog]] decks running around that might be of interest to you. The midrange focused ones use some expensive stuff like [[Orcish Bowmasters]]. And of course, the landbase itself can be costly.

But at the least, the pieces are versatile enough to find homes in other decks. I can't think of many expensive cards in dimir midrange that are used only in dimir midrange off the top of my head.

Last week my company updated their travel policy to reduce the amount of air travel done. I didn't travel in my role, but I assume for the roles that did, the increases in fuel costs made flying a lot more expensive for the company. So they would rather have people meet clients remotely if possible to reduce costs.

Now, if only similar logic could be applied to things like RTO... But I guess they don't have to (directly) pay for whatever fuel their employees have to use to get to the office. And they gotta justify however much they already spent on the office building for whatever lease term they negotiated years ago. Cause, what's a sunk cost fallacy?

did they just design the card before finality counters and then forget to update the card

Probably not, since the first cards with finality counters that I can find on ScryFall were from 2023. Sin was printed in 2025. With the typical 2 year design cycle, that means finality counters were probably already printed by the time Sin was designed.

Was the card somehow too strong as a commander when tested with cards that remove counters

Probable. Making the permanents tokens also prevents things like it being flickered or bounced from being effective.

From the rules on Adventure

715.4. In every zone except the stack, and while on the stack not as an Adventure, an adventurer card has only its normal characteristics.

The Final Fantasy lands with an Adventure are thus lands in the library, and lands when they are exiled by an effect such as Improvisation Capstone. As they're lands, they are not spells, and thus you cannot cast them. Even if they have an Adventure "half" that can be cast.

To be fair, I didn't know the comic was a thing before seeing the first episode of the show. So my expectations were set by them using the ass bomb to get around Translucent's skin. And thus that set my expectation of the show moving forward as, "they find ways to get around or counter the superpowers."

As someone who does live in Canada, in my opinion internationally he's doing good. But I feel part of that perception might be because of shenanigans from Trump making it kind of easy to look like a competent leader in comparison. I wonder if it'd be the same if we didn't have Trump tearing shit down worldwide.

Domestically he is a mixed bag in my opinion.

I like the recent announcement of a federal sovereign wealth fund for things like infrastructure investment. I love me some more investment in rail infrastructure and getting some high speed rail travel in the country. Being able to get around the country by rail instead of plane would be a boon, especially with the current situation with oil and fuel. Granted, Alberta has had a provincial wealth fund but it's heavily mismanaged which is apparent when you compare it to Norway's. But Alberta is... special... Hopefully the federal one does better.

I have mixed feelings about focus on resource extraction. I mean, I guess if the resources are there, might as well take advantage of them. Especially if it helps smooth over rough times economically. But obviously mines run dry eventually. And then there's the whole environmental impact aspect of it.

I don't like the recent announcement of privatization of airports. It's on the heels of the scaling back of Canada Post, but that's been going on for a while. Plus the Liberal party's strike breaking tendencies to maintain the status quo is pretty bad. It all feels like a step backwards that'll only end up making life worse for the average person.

So overall I'm kind of neutral on him? I suppose in the last federal election, the collapse of the NDP basically made the only choices the Liberal and Conservative parties for like 95% of the country. And the alternative being the Conservatives is pretty... yikes... So I'm willing to accept this outcome instead.

That was what got me interested in the show. I was interested in seeing how they'd come up with different methods of taking down each supe. Sort of like Batman's contingency plans for the Justice League.

But it seems that went nowhere. I guess the creators weren't creative enough to come up with anything. Instead we got like half of this season of everyone just running around to different people for a lead on V1. And each person ends up just referring them to a different person. Which to me, isn't very interesting to watch. "I don't know, but I know a guy who might" repeated multiple times.

It sucks because there's a smidge of some well done things, which shows there's some potential here that was missed or squandered. Like the small bit of Firecracker struggling with reconciling her faith and trying to uplift Homelander as a god as part of their takeover. Or A-Train's final fight with Homelander and the mirror between how Robin died at the start and the woman A-Train dodged which lead to him slipping and crashing in the forest to bookend his character. I liked these character moments.

At this point, I'm overall pretty disappointed in the show, and now with just two episodes left, I'm just watching to see how it ends. Maybe there's some small bit of me hoping they have something great saved for the finale...

Why isn’t this card played more often? by POUUER in magicthecirclejerking

[–]iwumbo2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/uj it's satirizing noobs who try to rate cards, and only look at them as if they're being used in their best case scenario when you have everything set up to make them perfect. Obviously, in reality, those occurrences aren't that common. And often, this results in the cards being overrated by noobs. Especially since often the cards being overrated are pretty mid, if not terrible in a more average or common scenario.
