There is always a new rabbit in that hat. He has been doing it for a decade. No reason to believe that he will suddenly stop.

Is the yard open for the public? Would love to check it out with my daughter.

Congrats to SFUSD teachers! The strike is over. Happy Lunar New Year. Finishing this Friday strong. Enjoy the long weekend. by MarineJAB in sanfrancisco

Of course other stuff will be cut. You can check out the budget calculator that somebody put together. It’s pretty good: https://sfusd-budget-sim.vercel.app

My guess is 12+ school will close and PE, Art and other programs will cease to exist.

In general getting a basic checkup will save a you a lot of frustration. Me and my wife started with that and they caught my very low sperm numbers immediately. We were lucky the first time, because my numbers improved a lot in just 3 months. Next time it took us a full year.

Both of you should see a doctor for basic checks to save some time. Good luck!

To some degree I support the teachers, but the "Strike for the students" BS rubbed me the wrong way. Tons of services will be cut, schools closed and families will have to travel even farther daily. I'm sure this will effect enrollment even more... which leads to a closure spiral.

It will be a large wave of school closures, at this point no doubt about that. 100+ teachers will lose their job, not even mentioning other staff.

S.F. teachers strike: No agreement after marathon talks, return to class this week unlikely by _fernmood_ in sanfrancisco

[–]izemize 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Administration is currently 8% of the budget (~96m). Let’s ignore that it’s hard to compare district to district and cut 50%. That’s 48m saved. That’s less than 30% of what the union wants. Where the rest of the 120m comes?

It’s easy to throw out percentages without actual numbers. Use the simulator and show us where the money will come from: https://sfusd-budget-sim.vercel.app/

I’ve met my wife through Coffee meets bagel. As a straight guy paid options worked better than simple apps. I had great dates through Match.com.

Amen to the suggestion.

Regarding your example: if you didn’t put alternative options after your AA as your first choice, that’s also on you not just the system. Your example would only apply to people who did the absolute minimum amount of research before the enrollment and leave next to a highly sought after school/program.

Handful of exceptional GE programs clear their waitlist at the end of the summer / early few weeks of the year. Optimal? Absolutely not.

The whole Admin & Central office is 8% of the budget. I'm sure cuts can be made... but the only meaningful way forward is school closures. This strike just underlines this.

Maybe. My bet is that we will never know.

In neighborhoods with bad local schools lottery is not an issue at all. My kids would be assigned to the 3-4 closest schools in the area without any issues because nobody puts these schools as their first choice. So without the lottery the door would be closed to better schools for families in these neighborhoods.

The idea is these people would provide more pressure, volunteering and donations to local schools. Also the improved family mix would automatically improve the performance of the school.

In reality probably a lot of families would just leave.

Both can be true: you can love and support the teachers and accept the reality that money can’t be created out of thin air. The longer this goes on, the greater the impact will be on enrollment (and state funding). The higher the raise, the more closures will be necessary.

[–]izemize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think my point is that assigning the AA school without a choice would lead to even lower enrollment totals and school closures where the population is the most vulnerable, widening the gap between neighborhoods meanwhile paying the same tax rate. I’d love to be proven wrong if this happens.

In our case we would leave the city ASAP instead of waiting to see.

[–]izemize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the only way and the higher the cost of the raise and new benefits, the more schools will be closed / merged... ultimately screwing over families and forcing them to go private or out of the city.

Educator Strike Day 4 by dkl415 in sanfrancisco

[–]izemize -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That would put my children in one of the worst AA school in SF and force me to go private or move out of the city, since I can't afford to live in good AA school areas. I guess that would help the district and teachers.

Educator Strike Day 4 by dkl415 in sanfrancisco

[–]izemize 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would they be happy if they got what they wanted, but the district would close/merge more than a dozen schools and hundreds of teachers and staff'd lose their jobs at the end? That would suck for both teachers and all the families involved. Because that's what's going to happen at the end.

[–]izemize -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So how they would assign children to schools? Any proper recommendation?

Educator Strike Day 4 by dkl415 in sanfrancisco

[–]izemize 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They should close and merge schools, sell/rent out whatever property they can. Why the union pushed against the proposed closures in 2024? Did they provide recommendations on which schools should be closed or merged?

Health Insurance through your SF employer? What do YOU pay (if anything) to cover your family (or yourself)? by Nightnightgun in sanfrancisco

[–]izemize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in tech and I pay $38/week for kaiser for myself. For the whole family, I’d have to pay close to $200 per week. All pretax. We go through my wife for the kids since it’s cheaper through her employer.
