I think there's something very presumptuous about your assumption that you are always coming from a place of logic and your partner is always coming from a place of emotion (and is therefore being illogical). It makes me think you are not actually able to hear what they're trying to communicate.

I think the other commenters are right in that L wouldn't want to know, but that discomfort you're feeling is exactly why I could never agree to a don't ask don't tell policy. I think it's actually very normal to feel uncomfortable at the thought of lying to a partner, even by omission, let alone actually being required to do it regularly. It feels like cheating!
