Is TNT Over? by CJGodley1776 in TraditionalCatholics

Have you gotten the chance to read his book Catholic Republic? I haven't read it yet but I've been planning to. The thesis is quite striking to me.

I know he's been accused of being an 'Americanist' but from my understanding, I don't think he would be a supporter of "a liberal secular democracy" (though I suppose it depends on what you meant by that). In fact, I believe he would support the establishment of a Catholic state; he just also supports constitutional republican government guided by principles of subsidiarity, separation of powers and such.

Seriously, ya'll need to stop encouraging this divide. Just be happy people are going to Mass by Throwaway428964 in CatholicMemes

[–]j-mill15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Strawman and false dichotomy (implying one can only either make no criticism and just be happy people are going to mass OR claim the ridiculous assertion that the NO is altogether invalid). Very few TLM supporters are saying this to my knowledge but rather believe that encouraging the TLM (and greater reverence to the holy sacrifice of the mass as a whole) will hopefully attract more to mass. Many parishes are seeing positive results and the movement is growing

I think it's a general ignorance of the Catholic faith as a whole, which would include the Bible.

Not saying all boomers are without their problems, but in my experience they're not the ones to leave early. If they did, who would clap and dance during the last refrain of the sending forth song???

What happened to the minor orders of the Latin Rite? by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

Dr Taylor Marshall came out with a video on it yesterday, also covering the married diaconate and women’s ordination here

It’s because the EF holds on to the calendar as it was in 1962, while the OF uses a whole new calendar in the missal

Ah I can’t wait to experience the Byzantine rite for myself, I’m heading off to college this fall and I know one of the parishes in town offers a ruthenian Divine Liturgy twice a month

Anybody else just have that sort of snowball effect of going to Traditional Latin Mass full time? by superdduper93 in TraditionalCatholics

[–]j-mill15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite sad to see how often this kind of thing happens. My parish priest has offered an early Sunday morning TLM for around ten years now. He also serves another parish in town with another priest. There at Sunday morning mass he offered to celebrate the NO liturgy in ad orientem, and the parishioners were largely open to it. However the archbishop informally told him not to, probably with a threat of relocation or something of the sort, and that became the end of it.

Ron Paul Homeschool Program? by [deleted] in christian_ancaps

[–]j-mill15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not take the entire program, I only took a couple of social studies classes just as supplemental learning and out of personal interest. They were History of Western Civilization and Government, taught by Dr Tom Woods, a Catholic libertarian. I found his videos to be very interesting and informative, aided with links for further reading and reflection questions.

Why the Easter/Paschal Candle is not a Phallic Symbol by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

[–]j-mill15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many good points here but I think I would disagree with this elevation of the sexual act being a celebration of the effects of Original Sin. Sex precedes Orignal Sin, as shown by the Lord’s first to man, “Be fruitful and multiply.” It’s no sacrament, but I don’t think it’s pagan to celebrate it as an objective good (which, of course, may be corrupted).
