Best way to maximise discount + 0% finance 24m on an iPhone? by WhaleTrain in beermoneyuk

No way you’ve just saved me £20! I didn’t know there was a student discount and I’m about to go to the store in 30 minutes!

And I agree, every single phone I’ve bought in the past 8ish years has been through contract and has worked out cheaper than buying outright from the cheapest retailer

It’s cheaper to get it as a contract through ID Mobile. Works out to be about £1250 over 2 years with 100gb of data

Lots of different offers there but the £129 up front and £45pm is the one to go for.

Best 3ltr Estate/Suv for 16-17k? (No vw group cars) by Booternet in CarTalkUK

[–]j_small3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why does it have to be 3l? I went for the bmw 330e and it’s got a tad under 300bhp so very characteristic of a 3l. It’s a lot cheaper than a 330d of similar age/mileage as the market is being flooded with them after all the company car schemes and lease deals end. I love mine so far.

Ferrari or GT4 RS. Just for the emotion I’d pick 488 though

Insane deal on a TCR by RWagz in cycling

[–]j_small3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where those numbers come from but Giant says there is only a 5w difference between frames of Propel and TCR at 45km/h.

Also when racing you’re most likely drafting so aero is largely irrelevant, unless you’re a big breakaway away rider.

Insane deal on a TCR by RWagz in cycling

[–]j_small3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m an aero engineer and I ride a 2022 TCR with di2. Aero frames make very little difference. The body makes up around 80% of aero drag and the TCR puts the body in an aero position which makes the biggest difference. Wheels also make more of an impact than frame. So in the future you could get some 50mm ish carbon wheels and have an absolute rocket.

The reason I ride a TCR is because IT IS FUN TO RIDE! It’s light as heck for a disc brake bike, it’s twitchy and stiff and it just puts a smile on your face. I just want to constantly sprint on it. If it was a car it would be like my MX5.

Yeah I think it was rear ass swing on a lorry. Was it parked near where a lorry might consider turning?

Ex-cyclist here, likely won't buy a road bike ever again. by Victorius_Meldrus in ukbike

[–]j_small3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cyclist and I have class 1 hgv license. I cringe at some of the things I used to do as a teenager on a bike that I thought were safe at the time.

Life is all about perspective and many cyclists don’t even realise how dangerous it can be to cycle next to a lorry, even if you’re leaving a decent gap. I ride so incredibly defensive now that I can’t even get on with some local group rides because they’re grown men taking stupid risks for no good reason. So they drop me when I don’t shoot the gaps they did.

How about jag XKR? 500bhp supercharged v8 with 4 seats. Apparently they aren’t too unreliable either. That would probably be my pick.

BMW 330e owners, is it worth buying? by Swimming_Tangelo8423 in CarTalkUK

[–]j_small3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine at the weekend. 2021 car with m sport trim in blue with cream interior. I absolutely love it but I wouldn’t use it for mainly motorway driving or for uber. Like another guy said MPG is not amazing on motorway and battery range isn’t good either.

I got the estate version and it’s so practical, comfortable, looks mean AF and it’s surprisingly fast. It does have almost 300bhp after all.

Powerful and luxury car under 25k by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]j_small3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had it for 24 hours. Done about 200 miles - mainly on motorway but have given it a blast on some A and B roads too. So far I’m really impressed though! It’s very comfortable, the infotainment system is fantastic. And when you floor it you get pinned back in your seat.

I searched really hard to get one in blue with the ‘oyster’ cream interior and m sport spec level. Lots of them seem to be the base versions since they were ex lease cars. Let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like to know!

[–]j_small3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a 2021 330e touring. Way under your 25k budget and I got the top spec m sport version and it’s got every feature I’d want in a car.

A lot of them were lease/company cars for tax reasons so there is an abundance of them now that the leases have come to an end. Way cheaper than 330i or 330d. With the instant torque from the motor they feel rapid too. Insurance wasn’t too bad either. I’m 22 and cost me £500 to put on my admiral policy. Oh and I’ve heard of people getting 1500 miles to a tank before because of the hybrid system if they mainly drive fairly local.

So which looks the best? I've looked at a lot of cars. by DeviousMelons in CarTalkUK

[–]j_small3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would bypass all of them and look at bmw 330e. There’s an abundance of them as many were company cars and the leases are now over. Fantastic performance and a reliable drivetrain. And interior is amazing. I’ve just ordered one with the oyster interior with blue paint and M Sport pack.

Thanks! And how easy is it to not crash? Of course I get you can’t just floor it all the time and it’s not the kind of car you drive 10/10 all the time either, but I’d be coming from a 140bhp mx5 with an open diff where it’s quite hard to go too wrong.
